Lets agree and accept you aren't happy with the appointment; You will have your reasons and that's perfectly fine. Let the rest of us get behind him and offer our support and see what he is about. UTG.
I'm genuinely interested to know the logic Simon. I'll be behind the manager and players come Boxing Day and would loved to be proved wrong on the appointment.

I wish him the best and think this is a decent appointment (but history makes my judgement somewhat irrelevant), but in honesty what are our expectations? As I'm not sure.... I think the statement probably sums it up 'finish as high as possible'. I get the feeling it would be as follows: Top 2 = Ultimate dreamland goal Top 6 = Big goal & achievable, but will be seen as a huge achievement Top 10 = Minimum realistic 11th & Lower = Not good at all I like the statement from Starnes, this plan they've put together I get the feeling is to carry on what we're going right now, hence the keeping of the backroom staff. Let's not rock the boat & why change what is working? If JCH is thinking about going, I wonder if BG will speak to him saying along the lines of 'give me this season, if we don't go up then I'll personally call my contacts myself and let you go in the summer'.

So I'm gauging from us fans that our expectations are the playoffs, if that's the boards expectations aswell then there's no pressure at all is there....
Just hope the bloke bought some cheap diazepams back with him from kolkata.... As they might come in handy....

Who is that person to his right in the group picture on the website? Must be a new signing for the club.

Considering his experience within coaching & youth/development set ups this sounds a good appointment. He will hopefully be fully aware that the development set up is playing catch up with other teams and there is a high probability that we may lose some players in the transfer window. I don't think some of the names that have been mentioned would have been happy with the set up. Is it a risk, yes. However, considering the clubs situation this seems a calculated risk and hopefully he may get some youngsters in from elsewhere willing to learn and will get us some performances/points whilst they are here Yes, of course it’s a risk but most managerial appointments are. No guarantees for experienced or inexperienced managers. I think it’s a calculated risk as well but I hope he has as much success as GC. I also hope he has a tad more tactical awareness as I still feel too often we were out-thought tactically in how we set our team up and sometimes didn’t change until too late. But that would be splitting hairs as GC has to be thanked for what he did. UTG!

I know its about opinions but why are people negative about any appointment and say things like "I am happy to be proved wrong"? That immediately leads me to think they will be the first on here to say "Told you so" if it does go wrong but will just say a one liner like "I am glad to have been proved wrong" or worst still just disappear. I would rather just wait and see with no comment and say "Welcome to our club".

Great appointment.
My only slight concern is that Ben will come with his own very unique and attractive style of football and whilst in the summer when he has time to mould his squad that is a clearly a good thing, I do worry that it may not have the same effect midway through a ceiling..
I would have been in favour of keeping things a little more as they were for the rest of the season and then appointing Ben in the summer.
BUT, I must reiterate, I do think this will be a very good ling term appointment for the club. A proper football man who will have a very fresh and exciting tactical style.

It's a huge appointment and it will generate a mixed reaction I'm sure. I genuinely hope BG goes on to have a successful time at the club and will applaud and welcome him on Boxing Day.

I think it’s an excellent call especially if the support team stay the same Kevin Maher particularly.
I hear BG is a popular guy and I’m hoping to see that confirmed with some potential new loanees in January.
Well done the Board for getting the job done so quickly and efficiently.
