The Daily Mail is a Tory tabloid. No way is it a conservative paper, this is definitely a labour propaganda rag I really hope this is meant to be ironic

All I know is that the Daily star is cheaper than toilet paper. soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent. 😀

So because that paper has a different political viewpoint to you it means anything they write about football, sport or any other topic is rubbish? Rather a closed-mind approach for someone with an open-minded, left leaning viewpoint. For the record, I think some of their political articles are confused and muddled. In the same way I enjoy reading articles other than political in The Guardian. Just sayin. oldgas reads that 'newspaper'? Surprised. Not. No. I read the Mail sport pages on line, and sometimes I read non-political articles in the Guardian. If I buy a paper, not very often, it will be the Times. Just sayin. Surprised?

Bottom line is our owners are damned if they spend money or damned if they don't. The most recent meeting of chairman proposed changes to decrease wages and I know we supported this. I also saw the list of budgets in L1 and L2 we are not top of it and the variation is not huge across all the clubs. Based on those playing budgets, most clubs could be losing 3-4 Million a year, as most have playing budgets higher than that. At least most of our debt is not owed to 3rd parties - it will take all the clubs to work together and the support of the EFL to sort this out. Our local rivals have an owner throwing untold sums them, while that is allowed to happen why are we surprised that Wael has to live beyond his means to keep us at least in touching distance. Would we prefer us to be back in non-league and all of Bristol heading off to the dark side ? Bottom line is the money we could have spent on a training ground and stadium has largely ended up in the pockets of players and agents, how do we avoid that ? I guess trying to create and sell our own talent is one way, but since Bosman it is arguable whether that makes sense. Rovers stayed afloat for years by selling talent, when the talent can walk for free unless you pay it huge wages how is that going to work ? I would argue the Bosman rule played a big part in football becoming unsustainable. As a fan I look at that figure of debt that we are in and Im angry as it scares me for our future, and I also think what do we have to show for it? We are still at the Mem with NO MAJOR improvements. We still rent a shocking training ground and we keep selling our better players when other clubs come calling.Without the bricks and mortar of a new stadium/or stands or even a training ground, you do have to ask how has this amount of debt built up? We are a average L1 club, with an Average L1 team, paying Average L1 wages... Bottom line question what have we got to show for us being in this amount of debt? I see nothing, sadly. In all fairness to Wael and the family alot of that debt is owed to the family/Dwayne sports from when paying of the wonga loans etc from the Higgs era, and it is very unlikely to be called in by them anytime soon unless they sell. They havent got the money to write off debts like Lansdown has for City over the years, but I doubt they will let us fold anytime soon and are trying to move us forward the best they can.

I am going to ask this 'silly' question because the answers I get from Gas mates are split. If the current owners decide to sell and recoup their money. Can they sell the MEM as part of the recovery process ?. It's a simple question really...
Persons A tell me . " The E.F.L and other bodies will not allow this within the timescale of foreign takeover ".
Persons B tell me " Of course - it;s within their rights to use any assets the club as to recover debts" .

Bit off topic but I remembered this from late 2017. memorialgroundbristol.wordpress.com/2017/10/11/a-good-start-to-discussing-the-stadiums-future/Dwayne Sports effectively promised to local community groups that the Mem was going to be redeveloped and that it wouldn’t be anything other than a Football ground. I wonder why they changed their minds so quickly and also have they informed the “save the mem campaign” that what they said in the meeting is no longer the case?

How do you know what personal wealth the ALQ's have between them? Well its been well published that SL is worth over a billion and a half pounds. While the ALQs are said to be worth around the £500 -£700 million mark. The family no doubt have the funds to just write off the £24 million that we owe, but SL for over a decade has written of tens of Millions at Ashton Gate.He now has a very good business model over there and can at some point maybe see some small kind of return from the money he has lost there over his ownership. While Wael and his family have not be able to progress us in the same way thus far, and I do not expect them to do the same with us right now and just write our debts off.

Really wish people would stop calling Cribbs (or the Lawns as it’s actually called) shocking.... it was never developed to be a Professional League 1 football clubs training ground so will never stack up against other training grounds that are.... is it one of the best grassroots amateur grounds in the area? Yes and it has won awards for being so.... is it what we desire for our professional club? No but will it do for now as a low cost rental option until we have and develop a multi million pound training ground that we would like (that would take a few years in reality)? Yes and our current financial position means we need to use options like renting the Lawns.... but it is not and is far from Shocking......

But it is shocking,or at least very bad for a professional Football club the size of ours.Could we have rented somewhere worse for us to train in the Bristol area? Yes...But it still doesnt mean its up to standard tho. That said, we did have 2 promotions under DC while training there.

Personally I've no idea if ours is "shocking" or just average for a L1 side, BG side we've access to a G4 pitch so it seems all our training is not done solely at the Lawns anyway.

DC always said we needed our own as that’s where the majority of time is spent. GC said our training facilities were fine. But I’ve also had first team players complaining about them...
Whomever is right we absolutely need our own base. Personally would have thought that investing £6-£10m would be debt worth taking on and trying to recoup some of it by allowing it to be booked by the general public for games or tying up with a non league outfit to use as well. I think City share theirs with Clifton college (could be wrong).
I’m surprised we have never looked at sharing a training base with Clevedon town. The Hand stadium has 2 other 4G pitches and now a gym there run by everyone active. Loads of space there for development too. I often wonder how much that set up would be to purchase and then have Clevedon as tenants.
Great location just off the M5.

First team players will complain about anything; it's their second best skill after football (for some they're far better at it than football).

Although I think we missed a trick when he did own it. But then he built a nightclub and social venues rather than a gym when he had it.

Main pitch and 2/3 extra 5 a side pitches. Has offices there that are rarely used and Everyone Active installed a very good gym set up there. I used to train there quite a bit until I moved.
