Isn’t that the case in most transfers? Does anyone ever get the full fee paid up front?

Fingers crossed not another Abraham, Nichols, Payne, Adeboyejo or Reilly type brought in as a replacement. Doesn’t fill you with much hope looking at those names does it? We’ve put so much pressure on ourselves by filling our existing striker slots with players with no previous history of scoring even 5 league goals in a season.

The club must have known for a while he was going to leave. Given the estute signings they have made do far pre season,I would be amazed if they haven't got several options in mind to replace JCH.

IMO it is shame JCH has decided to leave BRFC. I not sure BG did himself any favours telling us JCH was ill when he would have also known he was offski. Just hope he has a recognised scorer lined up to come to the club, time will tell.

Shame he is off but as always with these things tempered by the fee received and the replacement brought in.
For me it was a reasonable price so down to the club to find a replacement. Any players at Coventry worth a look?!?!

I think we need 2 strikers to replace him. Exactly, we were skating on thin ice as it was with JCH- if got injured in the first few games we could have been buggered, as it is we have left ourselves with no real league experience at all up front. Imo we need a marquee striker and then a second choice who can reliably chip in between 7 and 10 goals. But teams with far bigger budgets are after players like that.

£1.25m for a goalscorer to our divisional rivals who's chairman recently openly stated he was worth more than that and to a club who are reportedly set to sell their striker with a similar record for a fee in the region of £5m? Pants pulled down again if you ask me. How long does Toney have left on his contract though? We risked having a striker who wanted to leave going for nothing. I think we've avoided having our pants pulled down. I think we have had our trousers pulled down a little, only to reveal that we are wearing a thong - very exotic, mysterious, alluring and quite a surprise and will give everyone a shock. That is Bristol Rovers!

Healey would be a good replacement IMO. 21 goals in 42 for MK.

We sold Taylor, Bodin and Ellis too cheaply, I'd agree with that. All 3 were sold to the Championship. We've sold JCH to Posh, so what? If no Championship clubs were in for him and we needed to sell in order to get a profit on him, are we going to say no to L1 clubs? I'd suggest that would be cutting off our nose to spite our face. If Posh have the money to pay us what we want, the fact they're in the same division as us is no more than a minor inconvenience. We deffo didn’t sell Ellis to cheaply. I think personally we had Ipswich pants down at 700k Given how he's done since he left us, you're right that it was good business in hindsight. Nevertheless at the time, we had no idea he would flop, and his goals, general play and age at the time we sold him, meant that 700k was too cheap in my view. The fact that he went on to be average at both Ipswich or Pompey could not have come into our thinking back then.

Virtually every club in world football is a selling club. Genuinely blows my mind how so many people fail to understand this. We're Bristol Rovers, not Real Madrid.
Just because this is true doesn't mean to say you HAVE to sell.
Selling your best player to league rivals is a mistake, and shows lack of ambition to get anywhere this season imo.
Ill bump this when JCH scores against the gas and we are struggling to score goals near the bottom of L1. Going into the season with rookies up front is a dangerous game...

Not surprised to see JCH go. When he was left out of the Cheltenham game you could see the writing was on the wall 🙁 With the new season about to start we lose our only goal threat and it's really concerning where our goals are going to come from 😒

Our hands are tied when the player is refusing a contract, that would arguably make him our highest ever paid player, that's been on the table for 11 months, clearly has wanted out for a while and has less than a year left on his deal? What more do people expect? We either take £1.25m now or risk losing him for nothing like we did with Lockyer. I can't see any scenario where keeping him without him signing a new deal is beneficial for us. It promotes more of the bad planning we've seen over the years and doesn't at least give us the financial ease (by netting this transfer fee) to continue making moves. This sale alone repays our entire summer spending spree and then some which leaves us in a great position. I get what you're saying about how we shouldn't have to sell and not to a divisional rival but this is reality. It's a good (to be debated by this forum) offer for someone not interested in staying. It's a win. Could we have got more? Maybe. Would we have got less in the past? Definitely. I'm also not arguing whatsoever that we'll miss him - of course we will, he's carried us and he's an excellent L1 striker but as above, the sale will hopefully allow us to replace him and adequately balance the squad and the books.

If an agent sews the seeds of megabucks into a players head he is naturally going to go. Forcing him to stay at a club (and then having to give him away for free) isn't beneficial to the player or to Rovers. Once Peterborough had dangled a huge wage in front of his eyes he was bound to go or resent us for the rest of his career. Yes it's a shame he's gone to a Div 1 team but we created him from nothing and there is nothing to say he will fit in there or that we can't create a new player. Yes it's disappointing but it's not the end of the world. How many times have we seen players we really thought we needed leave the club. We were devastated when the Snake left (only because of his goals) . He went to the Teds and failed miserably, Harrison went to Ipswich and failed miserably, Bodin went to PNE and (admittedly through injury) failed miserably. We found JCH (who had failed miserably at his previous clubs) and turned him into a sought after striker. We can do it again. Keep the faith. UTG

Has he actually yet signed for Posh I asked this question on FBook, all other reports reference Bristol live story. You would have thought either side would’ve come out and confirmed the move by now (quickly checks BRFC site!!).

As a player at his best I think JCH was as good as Hayles , Ellington, Roberts and Lambert while all here. But unlike them I don't see JCH becoming a premiership star anyday soon.
He has championship level talent no doubt, but his injury record is awlful and I think given C19,the fact he is on the injury table most of the time and he was clearly not going to sign a new contract here - getting over £1 million is ok business.
Only thing that bugs me is that he is moving to a club that are at the same level as us, and a much smaller club than us (fanbase wise).. I don't understand how they can afford to pay alot higher wages than we can.
I think JCH has maybe doubled his wage there and knows in his heart that he is going to be retired at an early age due to injurys so is just banking the money and running.I can't believe he would not have wanted a better move than to Peterborough from us.
About this move I just feel meh..

Good business, sorry to see him go but decent money and I’m not convinced he’s taken a step up either, perhaps ever so slightly but Posh generally a mid table - top half league 1 club.

Since joining Rovers JCH has scored 41% of our League goals despite only playing 80% of our games. His goals per game is 0.57 which, comparatively is very, very good; Bradford - 0.52 Ward - 0.52 Hayles - 0.51 M Taylor - 0.51 Rammell - 0.50 Roberts - 0.49 J Taylor - 0.46 Lambden - 0.44 Biggs - 0.43 Cureton - 0.41 Randall - 0.40 Lambert - 0.39 Bodin - 0.36 Stewart - 0.33
A huge loss, I do think Garner wanted him gone though.
