Well as many have said my reaction to this news was a shrug of the shoulders and not one of huge disappointment and glad the saga is over. As i said on the JCH illness thread his absence from Cheltenham game gave us the chance to try other players and tactics up front and to be honest we looked a lot more mobile, inventive and threatening up front and the big man grew in confidence as the game went on, he will get better and better the more he plays. The problem with having a talisman like JCH in the side is that it becomes an obsession to play every thing through him to the detriment of other players and options, so thanks for the memories JCH and on we go, think now he is gone we could do a lot worse than have another look at trialist from the other night, think he would be good up along side strikers, sure coaches have planned for this eventuality and his departure does not diminish my confidence that we will have a good season. up the Rovers!

I am not sure where anyone got the idea that JCH had an attitude problem - he was always up for the Rovers cause and made sure his opposing defenders on the field knew it. A great player who gave the team a real cutting edge, I hope one day he plays for us again. Another one for the Gaschat scouting network to roll out every transfer window!

The majority of clubs at whatever level are selling clubs, i've got no issue with that. My issue is who we sell them too, we've sold our last 3 good strikers to our fiercest rivals, and 2 Divisional rivals. It's getting tedious. Edit: Just realised we sold Ellis to Ipswich who were in The Championship at the time and it was them who sold him to Pompey, but my point still stands We sold Taylor, Bodin and Ellis too cheaply, I'd agree with that. All 3 were sold to the Championship. We've sold JCH to Posh, so what? If no Championship clubs were in for him and we needed to sell in order to get a profit on him, are we going to say no to L1 clubs? I'd suggest that would be cutting off our nose to spite our face. If Posh have the money to pay us what we want, the fact they're in the same division as us is no more than a minor inconvenience. We deffo didn’t sell Ellis to cheaply. I think personally we had Ipswich pants down at 700k

Foe those who are saying I'm quite happy with this. God help them! The bloke has pretty well been our only source of goals since he arrived , has not been over injured 49 games and has probably done more than anybody to keep us in this division. To lose pretty well your only goalscorer is never a good thing in my mind and so I am very disappointed to see him go especially to a rival BUT I would have felt far worse if he had gone to City even for more money. The essential thing is who we replace him with-personally I would like to see two strikers come in Huwula and Healey would do me fine though I can't really see it but who knows. Remember JCH was not exactly looked on with great enthusiasm when we signed him yet Tom Nichols was looked on as the Messiah and that turned out well didn't it! Whats done is done and we have to hope that we get a couple of players with goalscoring records but losing your top striker is NEVER a good deal. UTG

Their highest paid player that was considerably more than we were offering?
What are they offering, £8k a week?! Thanks for your efforts JCH l, wish you well except again us of course.
Cracking piece of business overall by the club though, free transfer and sold for £1.25m+ for a player that plays 20 games a season with a year left on his contract

Which is fair enough if true. We have to be careful with regards to players holding us to ransom and blowing our budget structure, especially in these times. No player is bigger than the club, and if they won't sign a contract, we have to try and cash in before it's too late. I don't think we showed enough intent with the contract. What do you want us to do, offer him double as much as our next highest earner and have an uneven wage structure?

Oh well that's the best chance we had of having a successful season gone.
I didn't think we would need to sell best players given Waels summer news. I guess the cost of promotion must be less than 1.5mill or whatever the agreed fee is?

Time will tell if this is a good deal for us or not. It’s good to actually get a decent price for one of our players for once, with just one year on his contract and the fact that he’s perhaps a bit limited beyond his goal scoring abilities, £1.25 million really ain’t bad.
I’m just worried about how well we will replace him. We struggled for a long time to replace Taylor and with him we had Harrison/Bodin to soften the blow of him leaving. At this current time I don’t see a ready made replacement in the squad so we’re going to have to hedge our bets in whoever we sign to replace him. Getting a like for like replacement for someone like JCH is both difficult and expensive.

His goals to games record for Rovers was superb so that's going to be very tough to replace but if he wasn't going to sign a new deal then we had to sell.
Anything over a million in the current market is decent money considering the pandemic and the fact he had less than a year left on his contract.
You'd like to think at least half the fee would be put towards finding a replacement but I think we'd all be surprised if we splashed out 600k.
We haven't got a single striker in our entire squad with any football league experience so who we bring in will likely make or break our season.

I'm now also thinking Ayunga is the replacementment for JCH 😄
Also love how BG sprouted about JCHs illness

Great bit of business by us for once , player has a year left on contract , clearly doesn’t want to be here and wants out and we then sell him for just over a million. Thanks for your efforts JCH and good luck. Well done again gas !!

Peterborough paid a decent fee but they also are going to pay him a wage we couldn't begin to match (apparently ). With the now enforced pay cap that must mean they will struggle to get any other players in (good ones, who want a decent wage) so maybe they have put all their eggs in one basket....especially if he gets injured. Money, or lack of it, is going to play a bigger and more important part in lower league football than ever before. We got stung with Bennett but hopefully BG is a far more astute manager and can build a team rather than 'One Star and 10 helpers'. As with all these things, time will tell. I am feeling optimistic despite JCH going. All players come and go but Rovers will always be here (especially if they look after their finances!). UTG

Regardless of everything else, we can’t keep selling our best players if we are ever going to progress. Every year it’s one step forward and two steps back. Appreciate it may be good business on paper to get good money for JCH with his injuries but our ongoing history to never adequately replace these players and put money back into transfers makes this completely underwhelming. Hope I’m proven wrong. UTG! Virtually every club in world football is a selling club.

Good fee assuming Coventry didn't get a massive cut.
All the best Jonno thanks for the vital goals.

I think its important to remember who Pboro sell to not just who they are selling. www.uptheposh.com//records/transfers/With Toney a Celtic target its not hard to see why they receive larger fees. Very few big fees gained by them in recent years !
