It feels a bit like when your partner f**ks up and says they’re sorry and won’t misbehave again. It’s vilifying but ultimately you can’t help but think “yeah, you better not do.” I can picture him with a bunch of flowers from the garage. Can’t help but think Tisdale, or someone higher up, has told him it might be an idea to thank the fans for their support and “asked” him to write them a lovely letter.

Talk is cheap, Max. Start doing it on the pitch and there's no need for open letters to the fans. And this letter should have been published at least 24 hours ago. Smacks of trying to placate the fans given the extent of the fall-out from Tuesday. Isn't that the whole point, I doubt if any pro footballer is going to sit at home and think "I'd better send an open letter apologising to the fans after I had a stinker in the last match". I'm surprised you didn't complain thar it wasn't hand delivered personally to all iFollow subscribers!!

Sounds like he listened to the gascast podcast. Hopefully he heard the question that I asked on that podcast. I was pretty damming of him and his mates.

Talk is cheap Max.
How do you explain your own pathetic performance, when you are supposed to be the leader?
I would rather put in the effort and work my balls off on the pitch, than have to put my name to such a humiliating letter.
Put your money where your pen is, do it on the pitch.
You and your team mates are in an exalted position, we as fans will forgive most anything if you work your socks off, what we never forgive is apathy. You guys can move on and get another club. We can NEVER do that, you leave us destroyed.
You and your team mates are fortunate to be able to go to work, doing a job that most if us can only dream of, yet we continue to spend money that is hard come by, to watch, support and pay you.
Step up, cut the crap put in the effort, back each other up, grow a set of balls and do what you are paid extraordinarily well for.
MAKE US PROUD AGAIN.

I respect Max for hus letter. I also think a statement should come from the CEO as to what the club leadership was doing during the January transfer window.

'talk is cheap' blah blah....I disagree. Whether Max actually write the words is not important...his name is on the letter and to write this type of letter is an important action. Of course we want to see results on the pitch but as fans surely we can accept the apology at face value.
Thank you Max - I appreciate the letter.

When I read the title I thought maybe it was going to say that he’d realised he’s not a footballer and has decided to leave and pursue another avenues.

Something doesn’t sit right with me on this, I feel like someone else has written this message..
I guess we shouldn’t complain though, the club and potentially players do realise how watered off we all are. I do get the feeling though that for this to happen, whether he wrote it or not, the players have had an absolute bollocking.
Now it’s time to put those words into action. Otherwise it means nothing.

I'd like to think that Tuesday was a big wake up call, a narrow defeat can be shrugged off but 6-1 can't be ignored. Let's see how they respond. The letter is a welcome acknowledge of that.

Strange direction to go in....
I appreciate the sentiment personally, but I can also see why others are seeing it as a bit contrived....
Let's just get on with Saturday....

I think people are over analysing this somewhat, Max has rightfully apologised on behalf of himself and the squad and said that they are working hard to be better, that’s the long and the short of it.
Roll on Saturday where hopefully we start to see evidence of this determination to put it right in action.

I appreciate the letter and the sentiments within. However, the letter has to be endorsed with a rousing performance by the entire team in the next game. Otherwise the letter is worthless.

I appreciate the sentiment, thanks Max.
Now I expect you and your fellow players to respond with actions. No more powderpuff defending.

Good letter to write so thanks Max. It’s quite an unusual thing for footballers to do and to do that as captain shows great awareness. I can’t remember ever seeing anything similar since I started in the 60s. It was a shameful performance which Max has acknowledged and has taken the first steps towards doing something about putting it right. Of course it’s only words and actions need to follow but it’s a good first step so well done Max. UTG!

Someone on Twitter said to me the other day about what I expected from the club after tuesday, maybe a refund on our matchday pass.
I said I wanted an apology from our manager, our captain and club captain as well as our DOF and also some commitment that they will turn it around.
I guess we kind of have one here but it would have been nice if it was from the horse mouth in front of a camera.
I also expect Tis to apologise in some way too if his ego will allow and he can pull himself away from writing his next daily Mail column.
Of course I would prefer it if he was sacked but I’ll take an apology for starters.
