I remember this conversation being had on this board a few weeks ago, when was the last time recruiting a manager from another club or unattached having managed other clubs, worked out for us?
From the general consensus it was either John Ward the first time around or even Bert Tann.
Our most successful managers have come from having an affiliation prior, DC was assistant manager, Francis, Megson, Olly and Trollope had played for the club.
So instead of touting a list of managers that are being successful at other clubs and might not join us anyway, would it perhaps be more prudent to think who in the existing setup can step up on a temporary basis until the end of the season to try and save us from relegation? Someone who knows the squad already, knows it’s strengths/weaknesses and can apply solutions that an outsider might not think to try to get more out of the squad?
Looking at the coaches at the club, Mansell is the obvious candidate. Well liked by the fans, hugely successful as a player and speaks well in interviews. I suppose Mesure, Hargreaves and Maher could also be candidates.
Just think it makes so much more sense then another expensive gamble from somewhere else.

Joking aside, Mansell is the obvious choice. Is he ready though?
What about Maher if that’s the case?
In honesty, Garner ripped out all the sprit of our teams - I can’t think of a single player I’d want to step up

Least experience of all the coaches and back room from U18s up

Given Widdrington/Maher/Measure have been put in charge I can't see how Wael will then appoint Mansell, or Hargreaves, as our next manager.

In honesty, Garner ripped out all the sprit of our teams - I can’t think of a single player I’d want to step up I get the we all like Mansell, but is he really the man to keep us up. I would rather he be assistant or at least on the bench with coaching staff on a match day. If I was the man spending the money, I would go for experience, ensuring them that they get a free shot at keeping us up without the threat if being sacked, but the incentive of a bonus for keeping us up.

Ollie Clarke and Chris Lines tweeting their support for Mansell. Mansell would be liked by the players and fans. Closest appointment we would get to a DC type appointment without actually appointing DC.

Ollie Clarke and Chris Lines tweeting their support for Mansell. Does that necessarily prove anything, I guess all the players wanted Stuart Campbell to get the job when Dave Penny was fired and we all how that ended.

We made a fight of it though and didn't go down because of having Stuart Campbell as manager at the end of the season. The damage was done before then.

Clarke and Lines being so quick to support their ex teammate would suggest that Mansell has applied or is at least interested.

No need to ask any of them, If there is a coach willing to take it on then they will knock the CEO's door down and show him how they are going to save the club just like Paul Trollope and John Anderson did.

Oh, I'm actually with you 100%, I was just following the thread idea. I want Mansell to take over one day, but christ not now. Would be delighted to have him as assistant manager and to learn from someone like Pulis though

I don't quite get the love in with Mansell. Nice bloke and was an important player for us in the National League, but was in and out of the team in League 2 and only made 10 appearances for us in League 1. He got relegated to the Conference 2 seasons in a row with Oxford & Torquay and then again with Torquay when we went down. No experience of coaching the first team. Not sure he's got the pedigree
