Do I have reservations? Yes Do I think it's the right appointment? Yes
Given where we are in the table with only 10 weeks and 18 games of the season to go I think we had to appoint somebody who had good knowledge of L1. We needed somebody who could make an immediate impact.
Barton has a pretty good record managing at this level for the past 3 years and has only been out of work for a month.
I'm pleased he's been allowed to bring his Fleetwood coaching team which should help him settle in and hit the ground running.
He's here now and personally I will be judging him on what he does at Bristol Rovers.

What’s important now is making sure anyone’s children don’t go out stubbing cigars on people and knocking peoples teeth out.
Let’s hope this appointment doesn’t lead to a mad max style end of civilisation, with our children shunning societies norms to create a dystopian world of aggravated assaults and beatings.....as we die in the dust from yet another Barton Cultist we can say “we didn’t listen”
Then we may have to create some kind of Austrian robot to time travel to 1990 to take out young Joey barton, who has a scrambler....
It’s a harrowing thought.

Happy with the appointment. About time the club took someone on who will very much not be a yes man and strike some fear into the players. Also proven to be a decent manager at this level albeit a short amount of time. I like your point about him not being a "Yes" man. I think we can put the rumour that "Wael only wants a yes man" to bed now.

People had doubts Garner and Tisdale -Time is now to forget all the negativity on this forum concerning Joey Barton and get behind him over the next eighteen games to show we are one. There will be defeats and no doubt the unblemished are just waiting to put the knife in but we I think this is a great appointment and cant wait to get back to the mem and get behind the manager and the team. UTG All Managers are difficult appointment as there will always be Supporters who disagree. Of course people had doubts about Garner and Tisdale. Tisdale, in particular you can argue, was right person wrong timing. But they were never going to divide Supporters like Barton will. He's just wrong for this Club.

My thoughts on Barton are that he’s a bad boy, a rebel and a risky appointment. However, it’s a gamble we need to take with the club sitting above the relegation zone.
It may backfire, it may not. Crucial we get behind the club though as we’re in a relegation dogfight and a financially destructive pandemic, don’t give our support now and we’ll have a greatly diminished club to return to when normalcy returns..
UTG.

Think I'll give this place a rest while people spit their dummies out over this appointment and see how it pans out.

Great Appointment, at least it shows some ambition from the club. Young Manager, plenty of contacts, actually played the game at the highest level. I just hope this is the start of the wake up call. Wael, now please rid the club of the hangers on MS TW and most of the coaching staff from the 7s to the first team. At last someone in the club that actually knows the game.
This wont sit well with a lot of fans I know. But well done Wael keep the change coming, UTG

No matter who had been appointed there would have been people that complained and moaned. What we have to accept is that he is very ambitious and he must have heard something from the owner to make him feel that we matched that ambition. He left Fleetwood because of the lack of investment going forward so to join us suggests that our owner has assured him that the situation here is different.

Coughlan Garner Tisdale Barton... Who is actually picking these Muppets? at least give Barton the chance! The other 3 had plenty. No doubt you’ll happily be Rovers fan, IF he manages to do well 👍🏽

We all go and watch Rovers (or currently Ifollow) to be entertained! There's no question we are going to be entertained! On the pitch and off the Pitch now!
Brave appointment & shows ambition by the club to succeed irrespective of the fallout!

For the ones coming out with RIP and goodbye Rovers and all that sh**, no need to tell us your leaving, just leave quietly, there is a really horrible lot you can support not to far away, they may welcome you as that's the sort of species they are coming out with crap like that.

With the caveat that I haven’t yet read the full announcement or listened to any interviews, I have however seen that he’s signed until 2023.
This all seems like classic Rovers, to be honest. When you would think we would hold all the aces (Barton is due in court in June, FFS) and be able to give a short term contract, possibly highly incentivised to the end of the season, we have gone all in on a long term contract for him and the two coaches, along with presumably having to pay off or demote Maher and Mesure. When Wael has continually talked about sustainability, to pay out this amount of cash to gamble on our league 1 status is one hell of a risk.
There are things I like about Barton but there are also a lot of things to be incredibly wary of. That’s why a short term contract would have made sense. As it is, we could get well and truly screwed here or it could just turn out to be an inspired bit of mad magic. Given Rovers history it’s probably long odds-on the former, but I’ll be right behind the club and hoping to goodness it’s the latter!

Our next 3 games are possibly the most winnable between now and the end of the season.
He could not ask for three better games to start his Rovers manager's career. 6 or 7 points and he will be hailed a hero but anything less and we will have the most expensive backroom set-up in the bottom tier next year.
I'm concerned by the appointments but I guess it was a very small field and no top manager would come near us at present.
I'll live with it but not happy like some others.

With his past violent behaviour, if he is convicted again then he could serve time, have we ever had a manager who has run the club from a prison cell?
I cant see this leopard changing his spots.

Really need him to come out and say the right things now, not the usual bullshit. im mot happy with the appointment, but saying alot of the right stuff could go along way to helping the situation and getting more people at least partially on side. Here’s hoping

I think he's a very exciting appointment. I was impressed by his work at Fleetwood. I think he'll have Bristol Rovers competing in the top half of League One next season.

Here’s hoping It’s easy to say the right stuff. Our last two managers did that at their appointment. I’d rather he focussed on doing the right stuff. Particularly, not being a dick. Then he can focus on getting us out of this mire.
