Never thought this would happen, I openly thought we would only employ a yes man.
Got to admit, if I look beyond his past misdemeanours, I'm a little bit excited about him being manager. I won't judge him on what's in the past, only what he does now he's here. I will get behind him just like I will for any manager of BRFC

With his past violent behaviour, if he is convicted again then he could serve time, have we ever had a manager who has run the club from a prison cell? I cant see this leopard changing his spots. if it was a shove as some claim then even if guilty it will probably be a hefty fine plus community service, if it was a punch and head butt as some reports suggest then probably 6 to 12 months at HMP. Jury might say not guilty if the guy just happened to slip and knocked his teeth out. Certainly will be a trial with lots of media attention. 6-12 months for punching someone? Seriously?

What a horrible judgemental thing to say , I’m ashamed at the moment but not with the appointment of Barton , but the vile reactionary comments from so called “fans “ ! All I can say , is good luck joey - you are going to need it with this vile bunch ( minority ( being the only positive ) UTG RTID. Well you seem to have no qualms about being judgemental about his opinion. Vile bunch for not wanting a manager in charge who has a violent track record of being a bully? Yeah, ok then. To hear a”fan” say that the best outcome of Barton’s appointment is for us to get relegated is incomprehensible , he is here now , let’s get behind him and concentrate on what he achieves footballing wise , and stop concentrating on all his past misdemeanours , if , and when he is guilty of bad behaviour while employed by us , then by all means feel free . Until that hopefully never happens , can we please . JUST UNITE . Utg RTID 💙

For the ones coming out with RIP and goodbye Rovers and all that sh**, no need to tell us your leaving, just leave quietly, there is a really horrible lot you can support not to far away, they may welcome you as that's the sort of species they are coming out with crap like that. No one on here is obliged to keep their thoughts on the appointment to themselves.

Discussing a trial before it’s taken place is never a good idea from a legal point of view.

Discussing a trial before it’s taken place is never a good idea from a legal point of view. That's not true, it's perfectly ok to discuss legal cases when you're not part of the case, and don't have a legal interest in it. Stop spreading misinformation.

If the assault involved a punch and a headbutt, with a past record and lost teeth (if true), and no remorse then sentencing guidance (which I've read) points to a prison sentence. Just a punch and it's even money. Factors considered include nature of assault, harm inflicted, past criminal record, level of remorse and situation and circumstances of the assault. Assault resulting Actual Bodily Harm carries a maximum sentence of 5 year. See attached link www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/assault-occasioning-actual-bodily-harm-racially-religiously-aggravated-abh/

I said it in the other thread but I really wish people could respect each other’s views.... whether you’re for or against JB he’s been appointed now and for me we should look to unite in supporting THE CLUB..... i personally would have held off appointing anyone until the summer but I can see why he’s been appointed. I can also see why some may be nervous or against it. However, he is here now and hopefully he can get the best out of us and get us up the table! I wish him every success and believe there are 2 sides to every story and we should judge him on the here and now and future, not on the past....
UTG!

So it's official, Joey Barton is appointed next Bristol Rovers manager. I'll be honest, those are words I never expected to utter. I've made my thoughts on his potential appointment very clear over the past week or so - and I stand by those remarks. But he's here now. For those that want to stay away - unlike some - I totally understand. For me personally, he will be given the chance to carry out the job he's been brought in to do and I will fully support him in that role. - Do I feel a bit sick inside? Yes - Do I worry it will only be matter a time before he slips up? 100% - Do I therefore feel it will ultimately prove to be a mistake in appointing him? Yeah I do But despite that, I'm not the one making the decisions or paying his wages. If (and this is an utterly enormous if, not least because he has a court case looming over his head as we speak) he manages to keep out of trouble, then he could yet be a very good appointment. Whilst I feel "successful" is a word that's maybe been thrown in Joey's direction by some a little generously, there are definitely real hints that there's a talented manager there who could yet achieve very good things at this football club. He's a relatively "big name" at this level, had a pretty successful playing career (more so than most manager's we've had over the years) and will no doubt help us to attract some decent players, not least because of his contacts throughout the game. All I pray, is that he keeps out of trouble. Joey - you've been given an enormous opportunity here, so please, please, please don't drag the club's name through the mud by getting yourself in any more serious trouble - that is all I ask. One final note: Please respect that to some fans, this appointment really doesn't sit well. For many, perhaps you can look past his previous (long list of) misdemeanours. But surely you can appreciate why others may struggle? So please respect that and please, please refrain from some of the goading we've seen over the past 24 hours or so. A very good honest and sensible post. Please JB behave yourself and show us what you can achieve with the GAS.

People had doubts Garner and Tisdale -Time is now to forget all the negativity on this forum concerning Joey Barton and get behind him over the next eighteen games to show we are one. There will be defeats and no doubt the unblemished are just waiting to put the knife in but we I think this is a great appointment and cant wait to get back to the mem and get behind the manager and the team. UTG All Managers are difficult appointment as there will always be Supporters who disagree. Of course people had doubts about Garner and Tisdale. Tisdale, in particular you can argue, was right person wrong timing. But they were never going to divide Supporters like Barton will. He's just wrong for this Club.
