It's a "Yes" from me.
Can't be arsed switching between two threads to read the various opinions on his appointment.

I’d rather he focussed on doing the right stuff. Particularly, not being a dick. Dick Barton, you say?

I have never felt so ashamed to be a Rovers fan, worse than that day against Mansfield but I continued to support Rovers. But I can't continue to support a team with a thug and bully as their manager.Best hope for us is that we get relegated and that vile person gets the sack, but there be shameful moments in the next few months

Wonder if JB knows of any decent players available that might be able to fill that squad slot. I know that Joe Ledley has been training with us and he could fill a decent DM slot for us but just be interesting to see if he has any contacts

No, windy 1. I support the club. Through all densities between thick and thin. Regardless of temporary and current situations. The bigger picture, and all that. UTG.

With the caveat that I haven’t yet read the full announcement or listened to any interviews, I have however seen that he’s signed until 2023. This all seems like classic Rovers, to be honest. When you would think we would hold all the aces (Barton is due in court in June, FFS) and be able to give a short term contract, possibly highly incentivised to the end of the season, we have gone all in on a long term contract for him and the two coaches, along with presumably having to pay off or demote Maher and Mesure. When Wael has continually talked about sustainability, to pay out this amount of cash to gamble on our league 1 status is one hell of a risk. There are things I like about Barton but there are also a lot of things to be incredibly wary of. That’s why a short term contract would have made sense. As it is, we could get well and truly screwed here or it could just turn out to be an inspired bit of mad magic. Given Rovers history it’s probably long odds-on the former, but I’ll be right behind the club and hoping to goodness it’s the latter! My understanding is that contracts usually pay 12 months money at any point, except if you’re into the last 12 months. All this says is that we can’t let the contract run down in the summer and choose someone else. The reality of managerial appointments is that coaches often will keep their job until it gets serious, ie losing 4 on the bounce, relegation etc. All this means is we have to pay 12 months money if we want to get rid of him by 2023. It’s an act of good faith basically. It’s saying, you aren’t stopgap. Provided we don’t have to fire you, we want a long term contract with you. It also means if he wants to move on, if he gets us promoted, we have to be paid if another club want him. We get something out of this too.

For the ones coming out with RIP and goodbye Rovers and all that sh**, no need to tell us your leaving, just leave quietly, there is a really horrible lot you can support not to far away, they may welcome you as that's the sort of species they are coming out with crap like that. Would be nice to see some evidence of season tickets being destroyed though - just to prove they were genuine in their protestation !!!

I can't believe the negative reaction to this appointment.
Personally I think it's the best that's out there for us.
He is young, has a decent proven record in L1 and is passionate.

Well you seem to have no qualms about being judgemental about his opinion. Vile bunch for not wanting a manager in charge who has a violent track record of being a bully? Yeah, ok then.

With his past violent behaviour, if he is convicted again then he could serve time, have we ever had a manager who has run the club from a prison cell? I cant see this leopard changing his spots. if it was a shove as some claim then even if guilty it will probably be a hefty fine plus community service, if it was a punch and head butt as some reports suggest then probably 6 to 12 months at HMP. Jury might say not guilty if the guy just happened to slip and knocked his teeth out. Certainly will be a trial with lots of media attention.
