Posters saying they don't want Barton simply aren't Gasheads, you just have to listen to any of his interviews to know he has more about him than any of our recent managers. As far as Paul Cook and Nigel Adkins it's pretty clear now we never had a chance of employing either as they'd set their sights higher. Our best hope would have been Duff but I doubt he'd cope with the task Barton faces now and in the summer. That first line, offensive and unnecessary mate.

I don't know - motivate? Coach? Come up with some tactical genius to make up for our sh1te team? Earn his wages? Any of the above really. We must be paying him by the cliche. So would you get rid of JB too? At some point we have to stick with a manager and back him. We can’t bring players in now realistically anyway, so we’re kind of stuck with what we have. We, me included, would have loved Paul Cook but he’s struggling with a better squad than we have. I really thought JB’s enthusiasm was going to rub off on this team but with no one able to inject any steel or enthusiasm into them I think we just have to hope to god the 4 teams below us remain as bad or worse than us for the next 10 games. With a summer I think JB will make improvements. I appreciate many don’t , and never will, like JB but I’m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. As someone who didnt want Barton, I will say in theory we should stick with him, but of course there is the Elephant in the room

Without reading all seven pages of posts my opinion is that they are both very similar in what they have been able to get out of this squad. What Tisdale did have though was a whole transfer window in which he failed to bring in the players needed. I still think he was only ever interested in brining in players he has worked with before and because of that failed. He said he didn't like loan signings they don't always work out but look at the guy who scored against us yesterday. If we end up going down we should stick with Barton (assuming he still wants to stay) and let him build his own team.

FWIW: In the matches since JBs appointment we have played ok. Our set ups have been good and we’ve played on the front foot. We should have got more points than we have done but we haven’t. Our performances have been consistent and far better than those under the previous two managers. At least I see his plan. The players are at least trying to do what he’s set up to do. Under Tis it was clear he had lost them. We play ok for long periods then make basic errors in defence, the third goal at Charlton and both today. The squad lacks scorers and our two best players under JB, Nicholson and Rodman are out. JB was struggling before, without those two we look in even deeper trouble. If JB is allowed to manage and get players in that he wants we will be ok next season. Fingers crossed it’s in League 1. And finally despite everything amazingly we’re not even in the bottom 4! Need to win against Swindon obviously but this league is a bit crazy. A win every now and again and we could be ok. UTG! Spot on , sums things up nicely!

Hindsight and no consequence statements is all we can give on a forum.
That said. In my opinion (and it is just that)
Rovers should have sacked Ben Garner before the summer. His inability to get results from a team that over a year period had shown very capable of winning plenty of games was poor. It demonstrated he was not ready to be a manager. The covid and his own unfortunate circumstances gave him a get out of jail free card. Unfortunately it was wrong to do so .
Once allowing Ben to build a young squad full of potential he had to be given the chance to prove he could be a success. Early on with all teams disrupted and disjointed rovers got some reasonable results . However once teams got into the flow of things again it became apparent that the team was going to struggle and take some big defeats.
The gamble then was could a manager with plenty of experience of rookie players do a better job ? The club decided yes. So Ben Garner was sacked. Paul Tisdale arrived and some hope of stabilising a mid table finish arrived. Whilst the football at first was more pleasing with more attacking play. It became obvious Paul saw the same issues most of us had seen. The problem being the rules imposed this season allowed very little wriggle room. The squad lacked experience, balance and goal scorers. George williams arrived , who has turned out so far to be a good signing. However the squad didnt get the goals needed brought in. Lack of goals leads to desperation, which leads to mistakes, which lead to conceding goals. It became obvious Paul Tisdale could not get the squad to get those wins . Should Rovers except this and rely on Tisdale being a good league 2 manager to get rovers promoted again after relegation ?
The answer was no. The club didnt want to just roll over and so shook the dice again and appointed joey Barton.
This time the manager had what was given and no new players. To compensate for this he got his own backroom staff in. The effort and press and attacking play improved. The underlying problems remained though. Lack of goal scorers.
Most commentators this season have mentioned that rovers have some very good players and shouldnt be struggling. Its true. The squad is full of very talented players. Not enough bite though. Not enough experience. Not enough goals. Not enough leaders on the pitch.
Joey has not only a losing squad ro contend with but also many of the key players are injured. Nicholson Jaakola Rodman Grant. Without these players Rovers are going to find it very difficult. Joey Barton may bring in some players from the development squad and remove those he feels are now a negative influence going forward. Yes more inexperience ,but untainted players who might sieze the opportunity.
Will Rovers stay up ? If they continue the same thing over and over ,no. Something completely different needs to happen, a fresh approach. Thats going to be really difficult to achieve...but it could work.
Same ole same ole will see Rovers finish bottom of league 1 and in league 2 next season.
Its down to the players because the fans cant roar them to victory this time

There is a faction who did not want JB here full stop and that faction will be revelling in recent events but those who were happy to welcome him and those who were 50/50 will be more convinced than ever that he is the right man for the job and can see the improvement in our performances, marred by individual errors. Hope we can survive and believe we will, but you can tell that whatever happens JB is here to advance the fortunes of this club, and is determined to do so, i for one have every confidence in him to do so, We have to rely on our current squad to fight to retain our status and then it will be goodbye to many of them and JB will put together his team and lift off!!up the Rovers

I was happy for him to come here and thought he was the best (attainable) man for the job. He said all the right things during the honeymoon period (when, let's face it, that should be easy enough), but since things have been going wrong, he has hardly been inspiring, to my mind, and I've been disappointed in what he has been able to convey. His post-match interviews after the last two games have looked pretty pale, in my view. At least Tisdale's 'nothing in the f**king box' showed a bit of spirit. (istm people accept JB is showing spirit just coz he's JB, and PT wasn't just coz he's PT, but how have they really differed? ) JB seems to be working through the introduction to management playbook page by page. We're too good to go down. Results aren't happening but the spirit is great. We're getting there, just need to do the finishing touches. We're nearly there but for individual errors. I won't accept those who don't give 100%. That's it for a few players... If we don't get anything against Swindon it will be 'They're playing for their futures.' I find this certainty that JB is all about the Gas and should be kept even if we're relegated to be a bit bizarre. It feels like a bunch of grown men who have seen everything supporting the Rovers over the years are being taken in by a bit of old school 'up and at 'em' just because of who JB is. I haven't seen anything here that has really enhanced his management credentials other than a bit of playing to the gallery. And, to be fair, getting a decent shape out of a disjointed team (but no more than a decent shape).

I did not favour his appointment at the time, but I've enjoyed his interviews since day 1 of his tenure, and I believe he has got us performing much better in general, so I want him to continue into next season. But, he and the other coaches have since been unable to address the shambolic defending, and in the main we are still unable to find a cutting edge up front. One big failing in my mind is the same as Tisdale, and that's chopping and changing tactics too often. The players do not have the confidence levels and arguably not the natural ability, to handle constant changes from one match to the next, especially with only 1 or 2 full training sessions between each match. We should find a formation and go with it. Drill the players in their jobs and allow them to find some consistency. Having said all that, I guess it's hard to do this when we have so many injuries and/or players that aren't fit. The first thing I would do is remove Ehmer and Hanlan from the team indefinitely. Have a front 3 of Ayunga, Westbrooke, and one of Oz, Daly, Walker, or Koiki. Middle 2 of McCormick and Grant/Upson, back 3 of Williams, Kilgour and Baldwin/Harries, and Leahy and Hare as wingbacks. Rodman back when fit. This line up would still be a potential disaster waiting to happen, but I believe that (sad as it is to say) that it's the best of a bad bunch, so we have to run with it. Having Ehmer and Hanlan in the team is like playing with 9 men at the moment. Quite how they've gone so downhill since Gills were sorry to see them go, is mystifying.

You can add Ogogo and Davies to that list too. If Davies had not gone out on loan, played a few development games to get his match fitness back he would be in the starting eleven right now. Ogogo would have also played a decent amount of games too.

There was a fair chance he would get injured when he returned because of his lack of league one preparedness. Tom Davies again may have gone the same way a good player but a higher risk at the time i would imagine. We will never know what might have been i guess.

The medical team and player will decide who can play. It was PT who decided Nicholson was ok to play with his injury. He brought him back in to the team, with the injury, before Barton took over. You decided to forget that bit though??? So yes I am blaming PT, as he didn’t replace JLM who was the cover for that position. How can Barton replace him, when the shut? . Barton is the Manager and had continued to play him, but sorry I forgot we aren’t allowed to criticise Saint Joey. Didn’t say we can’t criticise him, but that’s a bit different for blaming him for problems that others caused. We will never agree with all the manager’s decisions, as we all see things differently. You can’t blame him for other managers mistakes though. Think Garner is most to blame. If PT was here at the start of the season and brought in his own squad, I think we would have been ok. Then PT wouldn’t bring in loans and played Annsi in the meaningless trophy and he got injured. Those two decisions, from him, hit us hard. Even loaning out Davies could cost us. Now Barton is left without one of the best keepers in the league, with no player’s that can run at teams and take player’s on and with no goal scorers. I don’t agree with all his team selections and substitutions and could moan about him, but that’s the same with any manager. At the end of the day, he didn’t make any of the big decisions, that put us right down here, the 2 before him did.

Agree at the moment Hanlon loses the ball 9 out of 10 times. He played a bit better yesterday and did one good bit of skill in the box and pulled it back for McCormick, but he messed up the shot and it hit Ayunga. Overall he has not been good enough though. I would try Daly upfront with Ayunga. Little and large pairing. One can run in behind, run the channels and help with the high press and the other hold the ball up, use his strength and bring others into the game. Then play Oz or Westbrook in behind them, or as the third man.

It’s quite likely to have given up on him trophy game or not. We struggle to score and we struggle to keep clean sheets. If we get relegated, we will ironically have already sacked the manager with the only experience out of the last three, at getting teams out of league 2 on a limited budget.

Like it or not he’s managing our football club and likely to be for the foreseeable future,he talks and knows more about football than any manager we’ve had,if we are relegated which looks likely I personally think he will turn this club around and remember DC took us to the conference and turned us around. Anyway it’s time for everyone to get behind him and I think his appointment will get our rovers back sooner or later UTG

I would say Barton has been better than Tis.
At least we have 1 or 2 good chances each match. The last 5 games under Tis were shotless.
