Lets find the next Harry Smith then. He started his senior career with Sevenoaks Town and also played for Sittingbourne and then Folkestone Invicta.

Letting Ayunga and Hanlan both go is like selling your car with nothing lined up, recipe for disaster, we haven't learnt from the January window.
Saddens me but I can't see where the next win is coming from, so used to losing now it's not a massive surprise, but still ruins the weekend.

Fans care about the club and we were promised our day in the sun, Leon Clarke turned down Gloucester city for us, sums up our ambition.

How could Leon Clarke turned down something he was never even offered?

Lets find the next Harry Smith then. He started his senior career with Sevenoaks Town and also played for Sittingbourne and then Folkestone Invicta. That was 6/7 years ago though when he was 20, he probably couldn’t have stepped up to L1 at the time, or his game time suggests he couldn’t have. Since 2017 he’s played at lower level football, I would hardly say he’s been an obvious candidate throughout his career or a reason to clearly scour non-league? Don’t get me wrong, I think we should look at non-league, but signing strikers at age 20 in the hope they make it when they’re 26 doesn’t seem to make much business sense? Was this the same striker who Tisdale nearly signed from Northampton last year? Can’t remember if that was someone else?

There are many reasons to scour non-league, most of the best players in our history have come from that route. And yes he was the player linked to us under Tisdale. Edit: Just checked the stats and he joined then League One Millwall from Folkestone Invicta and scored 6 goals in 12 games for them in his first season.

Yes this was the same striker - went to Scotland instead.

Yes this was the same striker - went to Scotland instead. Where he was a bit of a flop and if he played similar at Rovers as he did north of the border then we'd have still been relegated.

Hmm, statistic isn’t quite that good tbh. 1 goal in 9 league games in L1 (which suggests he wasn’t L1 quality), 2 in the EFL cup and scored a hat trick Vs Braintree in the FA cup. I remember on here tbf when he was linked that most would not have been happy with him. He was hardly prolific at Northampton either, might be only of those ones where he’s finally clicking. But agree with the general point of non-league and of course our recent successful players

A fair point, but I'd suggest not good enough considering he played 9 league games (including subs) in an entire season. The following season he moved to L2 Swindon and only played 14 games, scoring 2 goals. Looks like the jump up at the time was too much for him. This is also an issue with non-league players at times, its madness that you can get players jump from non-league to Championship teams, thats an astounding jump. I totally get why the player would go (who wouldnt?!) but everyone is also after the next Vardy/Austin when I often think the jump can be too much for many of them that early.

Patience is needed and time for adjustment and development, especially for a player jumping five levels in the pyramid. That is why players making a large step up usually go into a development squad and get used to the full time training and introduced gradually.
