I don’t think it is down to the club to apologise for Joey Barton’s comments, That needs to come from the man himself. Maybe the club are waiting for him to do so, or maybe this time Joey has dug himself too big a hole to get himself out of and he might have to walk.

No surprise that this is gaining more coverage, the Rovers Twitterati were working overtime at the weekend, Tweeting national journalists, and David Baddiel, to bring it to their attention. One person even Tweeted the Holmesdale Fanatics - in the hope of them making a banner I presume. No thought given that, escalating it to national level, would ensure that the club name is sullied far and wide. The Board should have stepped in with a brief statement on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, along with an apology from Barton for any offence caused, they've missed the boat on that now - the (news)hounds are off and running. Is that true TT? Do you know that for a fact? I don't Twitter so I wouldn't know. If it is, it's a pretty damning indictment of our own fans.

I just can’t see how anyone thought “we refuse to comment” was a good shout? Obviously some people have gone off on one but it was likely to be picked up as soon as Bristol Live ran a story anyway.

It’s not the worst word possible, in that context. It just means destruction. Heard people say it was a disaster (people die in them), it was a war out there (people die at war ). It’s all about the context of the word and what they meant. IMO if it wasn’t Barton, nothing would have been made of it. You can twist any word like that, that could be used in a negative way. So many times have you heard a sports person etc use the H word, personally I've never heard anybody ever use it in this context, surely "shocker", "nightmare", "mare" is good/strong enough to use w/o using a word which is likely to offend Barton knows he's going to be picked up on anything controversial he says so clearly needs to be extra careful. After Friday's pre-match presser it's almost like he's now trying to push the boundaries to see how far he can go. Anyway what are you going to do if it's announced JB's left later this week, change track and then say Wael was entirely correct to dismiss him? I think he should be dismissed anyway, so yes🤣. But I’m not changing my track, I don’t jump on the bandwagon.

This. This is what Joey and the club should have done ASAP! Instead of deleting it and trying to pretend it didn’t happen.

It would appear that Barton has a finer grasp of the English language than those calling him an idiot. He said ‘a holocaust’ not ‘the Holocaust’. Nothing to apologise for when you look at it in those terms.

Yes, I actually saw the Tweets myself when checking to see the level of coverage it was receiving. Couldn’t believe my eyes to be honest, as I think they should have thought of the bigger picture as to how it would affect the club. It seems that some have tactics of Get Barton Out, regardless of any additional damage their actions will do to the club.

Just typing in the word and football, it comes up straight away as one of Carlton Palmer’s top 5 quotes. So he say’s it and it makes it in his top 5. Barton says it and everyone is moaning. Apparently Palmer said it live on BBC, he was obviously sacked straight away and the BBC released a statement………

Let's be crashingly honest this isn't just about Barton - it's Wael himself that is the real target to some. And why might that be?

There is no real surprise the Mail sport online are running the headline as “Barton compared Rovers performance to the Holocaust” which as we all know, he did not.
As much as he’s lower than pond scum, that really is grossly incorrect. But then we expect no less from the tabloids, they know full well 99% of people will not read the actual quote 3/4 the way down their web page. As much as the terminology used was ill advised, the papers have leapt on a goldmine on this occasion.

Take a story, twist it out of all recognition and present it as fact to suit some narrative the paper wants to peddle. Journalists today are the lowest of the low.

Nothing to apologise for when you look at it in those terms. If you are saying that because the word was not preceded by ‘the’ it’s ok. Try putting Holocaust into your browser and see what comes up. It’s an evocative word for all the wrong reasons however it’s used.

He knows, full well, that he gets jumped on for anything and everything and yet he continues to talk and talk and talk despite the fact he is our manager and it has an impact on the club, he doesn’t care about that though clearly!

Obviously this is being discussed on OTIB to which one of their posters has replied;
“Holocaust or no Holocaust, it's not time to send Joey to the gas chamber quite yet as he's doing such a great job trying to get them relegated into the National League.”

"Holocaust" noun 1. destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war.
