Obviously this is being discussed on OTIB to which one of their posters has replied; “Holocaust or no Holocaust, it's not time to send Joey to the gas chamber quite yet as he's doing such a great job trying to get them relegated into the National League.” 🤦♂️ Classy ain’t they? 🙄

What does he have to apologize for tho? It would appear that Barton has a finer grasp of the English language than those calling him an idiot. He said ‘a holocaust’ not ‘the Holocaust’. Nothing to apologise for when you look at it in those terms. If you are saying that because the word was not preceded by ‘the’ it’s ok. Try putting Holocaust into your browser and see what comes up. It’s an evocative word for all the wrong reasons however it’s used. Nope there is a very big difference between the use of a pecific or particular nouns. Barton used "a" Holocaust rather than "The" Holocaust. A Simple..Fact. So anyone trying to twist his words are using slander to fit within there anti JB agenda. He is being hung to dry due to the use of the word Holocaust rather the intent within his speech. I think he is a dumbass for this use of this language ( even though I very much doubt he had any bad intent when said) I think JB is our 2nd worst manager ever and I would like him removed. However, he is the target for the PC brigade whenever he blinks, and that's before, during as well as after his spell as Bristol Rovers manager.

There really isn't that big difference when it comes to using that term whilst representing a football club though is there. There's no real context where it would be appropriate in any professional football environment. He's not a 16 year old chatting to his friends on a playground. He's (somehow) leading a professional football team and his words will attract attention and represent the club. I don't think he's set out to cause offence. However the fact he's casually slipped in a word likely to cause great offence to many highlights his lack of suitability to manage and lead. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's finding the lack of apology and acknowledgement from the club quite disturbing. A defiant and stubborn side to Wael has been highlighted over the last year and it's horrible to see.

I detest, loathe, despise, hate Barton with every breath, every sinew, every bone of my body. He should NEVER have been made the Gas manager. He has done some terrible things in his life (I called him evil and got put down for saying that) BUT I do believe that this was just a case of him using the wrong word- without thought of the consequences about what he was saying. Yes, I know that if you Google the word only the awful events of WWII appear but I am sure that Barton was looking for a word to show how bad he thought they had played ...and despite Barton being the most intelligent person he knows (ha!) holocaust just appeared in his tiny brain and he said it without thinking (no change there then!). HOWEVER... the club could easily have diffused the furore by making a statement to the effect that Barton didn't mean to refer to The Holocaust and this would have blown over. Their deafening silence is either 1. Incompetence or 2. they wanted more ammo with which to justify getting rid of Barton. Having said all this, I am happy to use any means to get rid of the man and I am getting tired checking Twitter every two minutes to see if there is a statement from the club saying he has gone. Please, please, please Rovers dump the man before he intentionally or unintentionally causes us any more embarrassment!

I’ve been on the fence for the last few weeks, as much as I want and we need some sort of stability, Joey isn’t the man. It seems his head has gone and needs to be replaced asap.

I laughed off a suggestion a few weeks ago by a mate who said he was doing all he could to get sacked before his court case for the payout. But as the weeks go on, it sadly seems more and more plausible.

Can anybody understand why the club haven't made a statement? If they set the precedent they'll be doing them every month.

I think you’re probably right icegas but in modern day language and how it’s used the word ‘holocaust’ now seems to have the one connection. And unfortunately being JB everybody will jump on it. All he needed to do was apologise for a poor choice of words but this is JB, no filter. But the main football point is that he’s a poor manager and should lose his job for that alone. UTG!

Which is why it is CRAZY that the club are putting up with all the off the pitch embarrassments.... Agreed. I was happy enough to give him a chance at the beginning. I was also naïve enough to think he would do much better job than the previous two managers! I understand those who were against him from the start due to his background and that's fine. The fact is, that regardless of what has been going on off the field, the on field performances should alone be a good enough reason for him to be sacked by now.

from The Telegraph: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/10/25/joey-barton-escapes-punishment-comparing-bristol-rovers-performances/Joey Barton will escaped formal sanctions after sparking outrage by comparing a poor performance by his Bristol Rovers side to the Holocaust. Fabian Breckels, a Bristol councillor and associate member of the Jewish Labour Movement, said the former England player's comments were "appalling". However, Barton declined to apologise after telling reporters following a 3-1 defeat to Newport: "I said to the lads during the week, 'the team's almost like musical chairs'. Someone gets in and does well but then gets suspended or injured. Someone gets in for a game, does well but then has a Holocaust, a nightmare, an absolute disaster." His comments have been scrutinised by the Football Association, but a fine or ban has been ruled out as the comments are not said to constitute an aggravated breach of its rules. Instead, Barton may receive a letter from the FA reminding him of his responsibilities as manager of the League Two club. Mr Breckels, however, has angrily criticised the club which has so far refused to comment on Barton's comparison. Dame Helen Hyde, a trustee of the National Holocaust Centre and Museum, also told the BBC his analogy showed a "lack of knowledge". "The Holocaust was not a game," she said. "I don't think Mr Barton knows what the word means and he is certainly not aware of the huge sadness and offence he has caused. Might I suggest he is encouraged to learn about these tragic events." Bristol Live reported how the comments were initially broadcast through club channels. The footage was widely shared and condemned on social media by fans before it was taken down internally, edited and re-posted to remove the offending line, the local website added. While at Rovers, Barton has previously claimed predecessors Paul Tisdale and Ben Garner were "negligent", leading to a threat of legal action.

Can anybody understand why the club haven't made a statement? Club can't do anything unless Barton agrees. Wael loves him and he can do no wrong. The Great Narcissist is now running the show and that's why I'm not going to the Mem until Barton and his entourage have gone.
