I'd like us to sign a player similar to Simpson at Swindon, looked very raw to start with but looks a real handful now. Don't know where he came from? Or his record before Swindon?. We'd do better to sign a player with all the physical attributes and develop him ourselves rather than look for someone that is never going to come to us. According to Wikipedia he had only played 4 League One games for Ipswich Town and 3 in the EFL Trophy, without a goal.

Rugby and athletics was were he excelled. Representing Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club, he posted a personal best time of 11.2s in the 100m. Representing Langley School as a flying winger, he was part of a team that won a national competition at Twickenham. That was as recently as March 2018. Premiership giants Leicester Tigers had been sufficiently impressed to offer him a professional deal as he approached his 17th birthday. Yet he turned it down..." www.eadt.co.uk/sport/tyreece-simpson-s-unusual-journey-to-ipswich-town-first-team-2647072

Pirate how much did Chesterfield pay for Tshimanga a guy like that was what we needed I was banging the drum for us to sign him for 6 months before he signed for Chesterfield. Look at him now. He's the new Barry Hayles. All fell on deaf ears. It shows how lowly we've fallen that little Chesterfield can afford to buy him for 200k but we can't with wael's millions. Anyway, that ship has sailed. We should target josh walker at dagenham and Redbridge. He would be the answer to our goalscoring prayers. Good opportunity to see how Josh Walker performs against League Two opposition tonight as Dagenham take on Salford in the FA Cup live on ITV4 from 7:45pm. Edit: Or not. Walker not named in the squad.

Emile Acquah at Maidenhead is a younger striker with good physical attributes. Could be worth taking a chance to develop him. His first goal of a brace in the fa cup vs Halifax showed a glimpse of some potential to work on?

Although any player Barton signs surely needs to go straight into the first team squad not be signed for the future.

Getting released by a team doesn't always mean they won't develop or improve, especially a team like Southend in the situation they were in. Certainly not suggesting he would necessarily be our saviour and would prefer a more recognised goal scorer haha but thought he had the physical attributes that a lot of people are wanting to see us add up front. Although admittedly I haven't seen a lot of him so might be wrong.

Get Richard Kone from Athletic Newham in on trial. Quite clearly playing below his natural level and knows where the back of the net is. Two footed, pacey, powerful and only 19-year-old so wouldn't count towards the squad size restrictions. A low level but 25 goals already this season is impressive. No harm in trialling the lad. Got to agree with Pirate - Surely we need to be looking at the lower leagues for a striker ?

I would like Frosty to find out exactly who is scouting for strikers at the moment, because joey will be all consumed with judge Rinder on the 26th, then again in December.
We need to be fast out the traps unlike last January.

Can you honestly see a 19 year old playing well below NLS/NLN level will hit the ground running when the likes of Blissitt and Ayunga struggled even after months of training. Performing for Rovers seems more than having talent, there also seems some mental barriers to overcome. I accept it's better than nothing but surely we can attract a young striker with league or at least NL experience.

Kone seems to have a natural strikers instinct and talent for putting the ball in the back of the net. Combine that with his pace and power then I'd say he's got a chance. His goalscoring ratio at the same age and level in the pyramid is comparable with Charlie Austin and Dwight Gayle. Bring him in and see if we can mould him into a football league player. Right foot: Left foot:

There’s an echo in here Pirate Think Dorchester signed a full time permanent striker at the same time so probably not the best environment for a loanee Agree , let’s hope he can stick a few more in at supermarine Yes they signed Alfie Stanley who has gone on to score 5 goals in 7 league games. After not setting the world alight at Dorchester and failing to score in 5 appearances for Chippenham last season, Phillips could do with impressing in this latest loan spell. Banged another in last night in a 3-0 win looks like with 8 more matches lined up until 4th Dec Phillips has plenty of opportunity to impress , he could have nailed a hat trick if he was more selfish which I think he should have been . I watched the match for the record appears Supermarine are doing what others have thus far failed to do and are playing their loanee with mutually beneficial results

Hopefully he keeps that going and returns here full of confidence ready to show the manager what he can do

On one of the accompanying links it says "and posted a picture of him on a night out with Fleetwood manager Joey Barton."

On one of the accompanying links it says "and posted a picture of him on a night out with Fleetwood manager Joey Barton." Might explain this then; Norwood seems like a bit of a twat but knows where the net is, or at least he did

"Barton also confirmed that he was keen to sign James Norwood (for Fleetwood), who joined the Blues after leaving Tranmere in the close season.
“We tracked James Norwood, tracked him for a while, and thought we had a legitimate shot at getting him,” the one-time England international added.
“Then, he scores loads of goals in League Two last season and then you hear Ipswich are in for him, as they’re coming down.
“We’re kind of like: ‘OK, we might have £2,500-£3,000, for you’ and then Ipswich come in and give him between £8,000 and £10,000."

The reason we can’t find strikers like we used to:
Before
Bristol Rovers found gems in non league and developed them and sold them on at a profit, or got good mileage from them eg Pritchard. Or, they developed youth players.
Now
Premier league clubs find gems in youth and non league, add them to their 180 man squad. These gems are loaned out to teams like Rovers merely for experience and then retained if any good (and avoiding having to pay us a transfer fee) or sold back to us for a couple of hundred thousand if they don’t want them.
Any youth or non league players we have access to now are the ones the big clubs don’t want to add to their army division size squads and are therefore often unlikely to be good enough.
The game has changed, the model has shifted to work for the big teams.
Under this model it actually probably pays, in the absence of a decent stadium or academy, to be a feeder club for a prem team. Loanees from the prem are like the players we used to sign out of non league.
Don’t like it? Don’t pay for sky, don’t attend pizza cup games. Don’t watch champions league. Be vocal about teams having squad size limits. Thats all you can do.
