I don't get why the ref would intentionally be so poor. This guy is a regular fourth official at our games and is going to get so much stick the next time he is. I can’t believe it’s intentional tbf. The guys probably doing his best. Not so sure, he gave the penalty just after we hit him with the ball😂. He was ok, up until that point😂

If anything it looked like Northampton had ten men for the last half an hour or so not us. They never pressed us enough, and i don't know what their performances have been like in the build up to this game, i know they have kept a lot of clean sheets recently and fair play to them but for a team sitting in third spot i thought they were generally poor.
Tbh i am still mystified by that Referee performance today, that was truly shocking.

We managed the game superbly when down to 10 men. Bar the last minute clearance off the line by Taylor (what a signing he has been), they never looked like scoring.

Just listening to Northampton's manager to hear his views. Apparently the free kick to our 1st goal was taken quickly as the ref passed the ball to us to take it and they were caught out. He did admit they should have defended the cross better. Just seen the goal and he's right. However it was Hoskins defending badly and he was a bit annoying. I think it's called Karma

Northampton have won their last 4 games so unless they caught all 4 teams on a bad day they must have been playing well. Since Pitman was injured we seem to have totally changed the way we play, for the better, no more messing about at the back and no more just hoofing the ball forward, perhaps looking better football is means other L2 teams can't compete.

Wasn't there today - Is Josh Grant left footed then? Shocked he seems to be a revelation at LWB.

What was the attendance? The thatchers end felt quite busy 6884.

We always win the second half! When do I need to start another match day thread? Winner stays on simple.

Yep I agree, but have you ever seen anyone given so much space the whole game? Unmarked on lots is occasions, invisible maybe? 👀.

We were superb from start to finish today, a proper team performance everyone worked themselves into the ground for the team. The fact two players went off with cramp tells you how hard they all worked. I've only seen the penalty live but at the time I thought it was probably the right decision. He certainly made a meal of it though I heard him squeal from the Thatchers end !! To come back from being undeservedly behind showed a lot of character, we might just be getting there. Cant fault a single player today, that's the home performance we've been waiting for, we also HAVE to get Evans contract extended now.

Slightly odd complaint…..is there anyone else on West Terrace who was distracted by the bright (white) light of the advertising on the other side of the ground? Can not recall it being that bad before or it may just have been the style of the adverts shown but it was definitely reducing vision of events on the dug out side of the ground. Particularly as the floodlights kicked in as the light faded. Cheers

Just got back, so haven’t read the thread but fwiw. Apart from the first minute Belshaw had little to do even when down to 10 men. But he plays as an old fashioned sweeper at times and did very well. The more I see him the more impressed I am. Defence played ok. Taylor is very good in the air and cleared most of any attacks. Once they realised they had the beating of the midfield they started to pass to our midfielders who were ok. And once we started passing Northampton were always on the back foot. Considering we had no strikers I thought Evans and Nicholson did ok and Sam N never stopped running and pressured them into lots of mistakes. For such a skilful player he puts a great shift in. When Thomas came on his continued to hassle and annoy them. Grant played well and kept their right side busy all afternoon. Playing where he did allowed him to show his strength and skill but then I’ve always liked him and thought he made it an uncomfortable afternoon for Northampton.
I don’t know if it was a pen, I was at the far end of the East Stand and couldn’t really tell but I saw Whelan’s sending off and he more or less pulled out of the tackle. The ref didn’t even give a foul. Yet he sent him off. He was poor, there wasn’t a really bad tackle all afternoon. He lost control of the match and at one point in the second half we had a wait of six minutes when there’d been a scuffle and Northampton made two subs. He looked clueless.
Northampton were poor, I thought they were worse than Oldham tbh. They started to waste time after they took the lead and then moaned when we started to do the same when we were ahead. They didn’t have much heart when they went behind and when we went down to 10 they never looked likely to score. 2/3 crosses into the box which Belshaw dealt with. If they are the standard of the better teams after their run we have nothing to worry about.
Well done to the team and JB today. They showed some character after being one down after playing ok. But they battled hard for the win and you can see they have a great spirit with their reaction at the final whistle. Now concentrate on the next game and fingers crossed we can string a run of good results together.
UTG!

I thought it was my dodgy eyesight, but my son and the chap next to him said the same. Other than that, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, even players who I've not particularly rated in the past put on a good show today. Lovely to feel the positivity around The Mem - it's been a long time coming.
