Do you think we need a new centre forward in January seeing that our performances seem to be better without a "big targetman"?

Yes another big ugly target man who can keep two defenders busy, but then again most teams are looking for the same thing, and can pay more etc.

It’s a good question and I think it will largely be decided by how much we’ve got available to spend in January.
For me, we’ve got to try and add quality and depth in the defence and midfield first.
I feel like Saturday with Finley and Grant out, we were especially lacking in depth in midfield. Whelan and Coutts will struggle to play 90 minutes week in, week out and we need more than just Spence and Westbrooke alone to fill in the gaps should we pick up further injuries or suspensions.
I think full back wise we’re a bit short too, as was revealed when Trevor Clarke was out injured. We might want to look at Centre Backs too, as there are huge question marks over the defences performance so far.
If we can tick those boxes and there is still money left in the pot, I’d be in favour of another striker coming in, providing they can compliment an attack consisting of Collins, Nicholson, Evans and Anderson.
We don’t want a target man who we’d have to adapt our play around, because as we’ve seen with Pitman, that’s not really worked the way we’d really hoped it would have.

I agree that based on budget then wing backs would be where I think we need to improve first followed by other defenders. Any big man up front must be able to press (very unlikely) otherwise it is just a last 15 mins type player and then do we need pitman?

No point in bringing a striker in if he is not much better than what we have, problem is it is not easy to get good quality strikers in the January window especially if we are still in the bottom half of league two. A fit central defender maybe a better bet, perhaps release one or two of the older players such as Hughes who seems to be perminantly injured.

Definitely need a striker in January, but not sure we need "a big target man". Could also do with improvement in the centre back options and another RB/wingback.

Would certainly offer Georgie Kelly a contract when his current deal expires at the end of December, but would face strong competition for his signature so might be difficult.

Can anybody really see JB gambling a promotion push on an untried Irish League striker? Other than upfront it's hard to know where JB needs to strengthen w/o knowing the full injury picture, as I assume the likes of Hughes, Grant and Rodman might all return in January plus surely Saunders can't be that far off returning.

He's reportedly interested in signing a wingback from over there, so why not a player with a bit of pace, power, decent hold up play and an eye for goal? Just what we need. Seems clear that Barton thinks he needs to strengthen in the right back/wing back position if the reports we are trialling/interested in the Drogheda lad James Brown are true.

I dont think we do to be honest as we have Saunders back from injury shortly and Collins has found his shooting boots. We have Pitman as the different option off the bench so it's not a priority for me. Personally would want to see a couple of full backs especially on the right side. Can't remember how long Brown is out for and with Clarke only just getting up to speed the left side seems to be covered as Anderton can play there as well when we have all our CBs fit. A CM ,possibly on loan, would also be on my list as Grant will be back in the New Year and you can always drop Evans in there if cover is required.

I'd be tempted to put some feelers out for Pitman to see if anyone would take him loan from us and pay his full wage. I don't know what he is on but can imagine there must be better for his money. He's always capable of the odd goal etc and may be important 2nd half of the season but I feels his cons outweigh his pros at this stage of his career.

Yes. Got a win courtesy of two screamers Saturday…can’t expect that every week. Need a proper centre forward who’s mobile.

Maybe we'll get full amount or maybe we won't but you've got to try.
