disappointing result ,haven't said that for a while! sounds like Newport were really up for it and knocked us out of our stride, there were always going to be the odd set back on the run in, there will be lots of twists and turns over the course of the next few weeks. Got to make sure we put this one behind us and not let it undo all the good work we have done to get up there. just have to regroup and put another long unbeaten run together starting with Crawley, we can still do this! Your right , our form over this year has been excellent , better than the majority of the top 7 so it was always likely we were going to have the odd poor game / poor result. Oldham and Newport are the only games we’ve lost in that time and we’ve won plenty. If we keep that form going over the last 12 games or what ever it is then we’ll make the play offs. When Barton said after a few games that we’d win promotion I thought that he was mad and should probably be sacked we were so bad. I left earlier in the orient match than I’d ever left a Rovers match. I stand by what I said at the time , he shouldn’t have said that but over the second half of the season we have been fairly solid so have the performances and the results have been very good. There’s a long way to go yet and I’m confident from looking at Barton’s signings and the way Wael has funded him thst we’re on to a good thing. It’s taken Barton 2 transfer windows to put right what Garner screwed for us in a matter of weeks. That’s how bad a decision it was to employ Garner with Coughlans squad , couldn’t be more opposite ends of the spectrum and it upset the whole balance and we were still recovering until the second transfer window and now we can see what kind of manager we’ve got and I’m hopeful that we’ll make the play offs this season and if we don’t then I’ll be expecting promotion next season. It was so bad for so long after Coughlan left but at last we seem to have a plan and it’s showing. Gasheads shouldn’t let there heads drop after today I know the players won’t.

Why do you assume he wasn't well? Finley playing at half pace us a damn sight more use than Loft, from memory all he did was get booked for stamping on a Newport players ankle then, shortly afterwards hitting another player in the face, leading to him required treatment. A standard loft performance then. At least he got booked I suppose. Be nice if he could quickly pick up 5 and be suspended. He’s been poor , but that’s a poor thing for a supporter to say.

Taylor "rocked his ankle" according to JB. Strapped it up at halftime but decided to not take a chance with Tuesdays game coming up. It looked like he was holding his chest though which a few of us in the ground noticed That's what it appeared to be with close ups watching on ifollow with Leighann and Co in attendance. However our Manager has reported what I posted.

Let's just hope this is merely a blip and Rovers get back on course with a win at Crawley, although this will be a tough game. Some other teams now have games in hand and this will add to the pressure. This now has to be nine points from the next three games. Just hope fatigue is not set in and Rovers end up around mid-table.

Did seem strange to have Coutts and Finley on the bench. Coutts performance have been picking up lately and Whelan coming off the bench has been working well. Finley must start every game for me.
Hoping for same side we put out against Stevenage, to start on Tuesday.

Can anybody understand who JB's referring to when he suggests certain players given their chance yesterday may not play again this season, as I can't see the likes of Whelan and Evans not figuring again between now and May, and I also doubt his big signing, Loft, won't get some game time.

First live game for me under JB. I stood behind the goals with the home fans who were a generous bunch, even after my reactions gave the game away. They offered to take me for a pint or two after too. Never one for massive highs or terrible lows, I thought we were generally a little off the pace. There doesn't seem to be a man free to accept a pass, it often looked like we were playing with 10 men. A poor day to come back, I hope it wasn't me ! Onwards and upwards, UTG. I used to think we lost at Wembley due to me as, when we played Shrewsbury, i had been blue lighted into hospital and we won. If not for my best mate i was going to stay away from the match with Grimsby but he forced my hand by buying me a ticket and i am bloody glad i went. I bet there are a fair few more who have felt this way over the years

I actually thought loft did OK yesterday, he definitely put himself about a bit and unsettled thier defence a bit. Our best moments in the second half involved him, he also worked hard to win the ball back. I like Evans but he was so far off it yesterday, his first touch was terrible and he gave the ball away numerous times, apart from his brilliant strikes I think he's been struggling last few games. There were some real positives yesterday despite the result, Hoole for me just gets better and better every game especially considering he was up against probably thier most dangerous player. Nolan looked a class act when he came on and our midfield began to take hold of the game for the first time, if we'd started with that team we would of won!

Coutts was an odd one, though.

First game in a while I didn’t particularly enjoy tbh. I thought we had the quality in terms of style and players, but we only saw glimpses of what they are capable of. Newport however had a solid group of players with a game plan they executed perfectly and were deserved winner, their pressing and attacking the ball was really impressive.
Not really our day yesterday, but no need to worry at this stage imo, maybe we needed a reminder that we are not there yet and have a lot of work to do, I think this team of players and management will use it as motivation.
The Gas are still coming! 💙

I wasn’t there so i can’t comment of the game but, going by ther match thread and having spoken with a couple who were there, it seems we were not exactly playing good football. Sorry to paraphrase DC’s famous swords but we dust ourselves down and bring on the next match. I think some were getting carried away by thinking we could go unbeaten for the rest of the season and now i am reading we are playing mid to lower table opponents next, so we should win. In my experience, we seem to do better against better opposition.

I thought I heard that interview and I don't recall him saying some players might not play again this season after that performance.
I guess Loft would be the obvious one as everyone else has been playing well until yesterday.

Yes I watched the game. I can remember two good saves, can remember them hitting the woodwork as well. But that does not count as a shot on target. Unless the stats people are wrong, they had three shots on target. I'm not the one that forget all of our chances. Don't know how you can forget the Nicholson and Collins chances at 0 0. Both should have scored. At that stage, were should have been winning. But we got worse as the game went on, until the final few minutes, when we started to move the ball quicker. They managed the game well though and probably just about deserved to hold on. Point I was making, was that it wasn't a game that we should have lost by 3 or 4, as some were making out. On another day, we could easily have taken at least a point. We have played worse and won, but we have played better and lost. That's football, it's about taking chances. We didn't today. Nobody is forgetting the Collins chance but he never really looked like scoring and just hit a tame shot against the defender. Collins was as poor today as he was good Tuesday. Any game where we lose 1-0 you could always argue we could have snatched a draw but the fact is we were poor today and even Barton accepts that was the case, so it seems only you were happy with the performance. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joey-bartons-verdict-bristol-rovers-6759896#ICID=Android_BristolPostApp_AppShareCan you tell me when I said I was happy?? I only ever said we didn't deserve to lose by 3 or 4!!! Then I said we had more chances then you suggested. That's it.

Unfortunately it is the if you are not with us then you are against us thing. You know what you saw and your own mind. I normally watch away games at a mates house but I couldn’t get out of the house. His reaction was that they seemed to want it more and that the players looked tired. I find it hard to understand the tired part as i played, albeit in the suburban league but, if we were on a winning streak then we couldn’t wait to play again, not that we had that many winning steaks 😂 😆

I said this earlier in the thread he isnt the player he used to be but pops up with vital goals so is undroppable. I remember when he used to pick the ball up deep facing his own goal, turn left or right leaving the opposition for dead and drive forward. He doesnt do that anymore, just waits to get the ball on the edge of the box to have a pop. Our two best performances vrs Stevenage and Sutton have come with him out of the side...

Hope someone on here who watched can assist out of interest.

The defence takes care of itself as there are no fit replacements apart from Trev Clarke. Maybe he is just giving them a kick up the arse to cut out any complacency.
