Am I the only one thinks at times tonight he was too selfish? I guess that will come with age but a very exciting display. I agree, particularly that second mazy run where the angle was too tight to shoot and Evans was in a good position. Understandable though given his magic feet and that part of his game will develop with experience

Incredible as it may seem we have a young lad playing for us that arguably, only a few clubs in the country could afford to buy - he’s that’s good imo.

Just watched the highlights. Tickled the way he celebrated in front of the Colchester bench.

WTF is he doing on loan in league two? Newcastle fans say that JB has a very good relationship with staff at the club, maybe they preferred to trust his development to somebody they know?

Agree, all managers use contacts, it was one of BGs selling points. Joey seems to have used his to get us some really good loans

It was stated that Luton would not promise enough game time so that deal fell through lae on, giving us the chance.

I'm on the Newcastle Forum. Elliot is highly thought of, and the Toons are keeping an eye on his progress with enthusiasm. A good bunch of lads / ladesses on that forum and very friendly too.

What a player this lad is, watched him closely last night & when the ball was with our defence, he had his arm raised frantically wanting the ball to be played to him. He must be a nightmare for opposing defences to play against because of his size, strength & ability to run with the ball. If we do reach our target of at least the playoffs ,his signing has been a major catalyst to this. A player with a immense future in the game, let’s enjoy him whilst we got him for the remaining games of the season.

Shola Ameobi is in charge of Newcastles loans. Him and Joey are pretty close due to both playing at Newcastle at the same time. So I think that clearly had something to do with it. Elliot is far too good to be playing in League 2, that's for sure.

WTF is he doing on loan in league two? He is playing at Rovers - thats what. He is playing alongside midfield players such as Coutts, Finlay and Whelan with a manager who knows that position - all of whom are teaching him the true craft - that there is more to being a great midfield player than purely dazzling runs and individual goals. It is true that his skills are more fitting of a higher level but if he went to a Championship side then he may well have struggled to get game time and have such a profile on the first page of the Newcastle Forums in the way that he is now. I suspect that part of the loan agreement was that he has to play every game when he is match fit and he has benefitted from that in the same way that Connor Taylor and James Connoly have done so. it was still a risk though for Rovers. With Wael as owner you also get the impression that Rovers do things properly and a Premier League side feels able to send a starlet out knowing that he will be looked after and not simply used to bolster an underperforming team.

Very true, everyone is crediting what a player he is, and rightly so. But at the same time we have to credit ourselves to aiding his development, he seems to be improving a little bit more each time we’ve seen him play.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too good for us. I can see why Eddie Howe was saying he wanted him to go to a Championship club. It's like we're in cheat mode when he is on the pitch!

Interestingly Mick Harford from Luton was in the East stand last night unfortunately 😞

Who's to say that when he does go back, Joey doesn't get another young talent from them?

Who's to say that when he does go back, Joey doesn't get another young talent from them? I think that is a crucial point. If we treat loans well and they do well, a club is more likely to send us another one. This applies to Billy, Taylor and Connolly - although, if we go up we may keep Connolly for next year. Onwards and upwards

I have to say I'm finding some of these comments quite insuting to the rest of the Rovers players and league 2 in general, 'wtf is he doing in league 2 and 'to good for us' to name a couple, he's a really good player yes but we also have other good players playing for us like Belshaw, Evans, Coutts, Finlay, Nicholson, Colins, Taylor the list goes on, maybe the rest of the team brings the best out in him? Just a thought.

Just a thought. Well he is too good for League 2, let's be honest. Hopefully the whole squad will prove they are by getting us promoted come May as well. The last few months improvement has been great too see. Elliot Anderson is an absolute gem though, just like Jamie Shore, The Latvian, Mark Walters and Sir Rickie you can just see that technically they are better than everybody else at the level they're playing at.
