Jesus Christ - the way this place goes from fever-pitch hysteria to near-suicidal depression in a 90-minute blink of an eye is absolutely breathtaking! I don’t know how some of you lot cope with the strains & stresses of ordinary everyday life, I really don’t - never mind anything else! The reality of the situation is that we are currently 6th, on the same points 3 other teams. We are only 3 points off 3rd place and 4points off 2nd. We can still achieve automatic promotion and even if we don’t we should still be in the playoffs. Chill the f**k out . . .

We waved goodbye to the Auto promotion places today. Mansfield only 1 point behind with 3 games in band, Exeter also 5 points ahead with a game in hand - very little chance of it. Should get in play offs but the facts are we aren't playing that well atm. It we don't get promotion this year i fear for next year. Wrexham and Stockport are minted and will throw their plastic money at it. "we aren't playing well" before today's game we were top of the current form? It's Mansfield v Northampton, Newport v Exeter and then FGR v Mansfield next week, let's see how the table looks after they all been played before writing off our own chances. Regardless the priority is securing a play off position, anything else is a bonus after our poor start to the season.

Here's my thoughts on the current situation, some people way too reactionary; it's not all tits up because we lost today; I didn't watch but looking at the statistics we seemed to be extremely unlucky against a team who have had an unbelievable turnaround in form since the start of the month; keep in mind, this team had 5 wins in their last 6. So I'm disappointed that we lost, but it's not the "we lost against a team in the bottom half of the league" usual narrative. As for our prospects for the end of the season, I really, really doubt we'll make automatic. Why? Because in my view, Exeter and Forest Green have 2 of the places wrapped up, and I would guess Mansfield or Northampton to get the third. Not saying situations can't change though. With regards to playoffs, I think I'm about 65% confident we'll make playoffs. The reason I'm so pessimistic, and keep in mind that this wasn't changed by this game, I thought this before the game; is that we have an incredibly difficult end of the season run-in. We still have Tranmere, Salford, Vale and Forest Green to play, I'd like to think we'll beat Salford, but I doubt we'll manage Tranmere away, they have the best home record in the league. Forest Green are Forest Green, and I hope we can get a draw out of Vale. And given it's Rovers if it comes down to the last day I sincerely know that we'll struggle to beat Scunthorpe. I don't really know in all honesty, if we don't beat Bradford I think our automatic hopes are probably gone. It's a toughie! I'm not being optimistic or pessimistic, I know that this team is good enough to get playoffs, but I just think our form at the beginning of the season will end up catching up with us! UTG
Edit: With regards to the remaining fixtures, it'll be interesting to see, since I think all of the other teams in the top 7 have difficult games too. Remaining games teams in the top 10 are as follows:
Forest Green: 4 out of remaining 9 games against top 10 Exeter: 4 out of remaining 8 games Northampton: 2 out of remaining 7 games Vale: 3 out of remaining 8 games Newport: 4 out of remaining 7 games Bristol Rovers: 3 out of remaining 7 games Tranmere: 2 out of remaining 7 games Mansfield: 4 out of remaining 10 Swindon: 2 out of remaining 8
Maybe we will make playoffs...up to 70%!

I still think our best 11 is when Evans & Anderton are in the starting lineup, both missing today, let’s hope they’re both back next week. Still 21 points to play for & a lot of twists & turns to come, keep the faith & at least the end of the season is going to be interesting utg

It will be about how we respond to this defeat. We’ll still be ok for play offs I think but obviously disappointing today. Last week Northampton were down after we beat them, this week they’re up again. But being so close as it all is I don’t think we’re out of anything. Us and Tranmere are the big losers this week. But win next week against Bradford and it will all change. Said it before, it’s what we do, forget others. We dust ourselves down and work hard next week and win next match. And we do the same the next week.
UTG!
Edit: I’d feel move confident if we had a natural scorer like MT in ‘16 to go alongside Collins. We don’t have that balance that perhaps a team like FGR has.

It’s hopefully a win win. Great if we go up and hopefully Joey Barton will move on if we don’t.

Wow! What a awful set of posts after our defeat today 😞 words fail me they really do! Gone from people saying they love joey to wanting I'm gone if we don't go up,top 3 to top 7 and then suddenly we have gone from being a team that plays like Brazil to a team that plays in the conference lol. Fans... is that what you call yourselves because most of you make no sense 🤔

Bad day at the office where we set up wrong from the start. Surprised not to see t clarke replacing anderton. That would have allowed anderson to play in his preferred position. E anderson could then played the evans role allowing Nicholson to go out on the left. Whelan just slows it down too much and couuts performance seem to drop when whelan is the holding midfielder.

Interesting about the ball boys, wonder if the club could ask the league, is having ball boys who refuse to get the ball, and let players jump over advertising boards, on to retrieve the ball is allowed, because that could be a useful tactic in our last few home games. Remember Martin Alle tactic years ago , at Reading and I think Barnet , in that case , as soon as they took the lead ,the ball boys left the ground, I hate the tactic myself it’s bad enough with players sitting down for no reason, let alone ball boys, Must admit I don’t see it in the premier league Didnt see what happened yesterday, but we do similar things. Our ball boys are told not to rush if we are winning.

T.Clarke not starting was probably the wrong call. Barton was saying how they have had to move Anderson about and now they have him in his best position and the first problem that came up he moved Anderson and disrupted the team more rather than play a left back who was on the bench We had 2 players out, but effectively made 3 changes

The defeat feels like a setback, but if we'd drawn both games away from home against an in-form Carlisle and top three Northampton, people might have been less disappointed. Yet we'd be a point worse off.
Still so tight at the top and impossible to predict how it will pan out.
Personally I hope Exeter and FGR win all their games against the other contenders (except us v FGR obvs). Those two are looking safe for automatic promotion anyway, and it would help us get towards third place.

Knowing Rovers the club will go "off the boil" and we will be on edge as to whether a playoff place is actually attained!!

Was that the second mistake JB made yesterday after the one with the line up, with a point looking an almost certainty he made more wholesale changes when he brought on Saunders and Clarke, why didn't he just bring on Thomas, who looked the most effective sub anyway, for Nicholson and leave Coutts and Whelan controlling midfield.
