I have cards - just prefer not to use them , I find spending with a card fare too easy , I think twice with cash ! Thanks for the advice tho ! X A match at the Mem costs approximately the same whether cash or cashless so don't understand the issue??? You say you have a card but presumably choose not to use it unless you need to. Well at the Mem you might need to, so you'll use it, and you'll be no better or worse off. I honestly think people are inventing a great big awkward issue around using cards here, whereas in reality it's easy and for the vast majority much easier than cash. I think I'd better stop posting about this now or people will think I'm getting boring. Although, to be fair, I am pretty boring.

It also massively speeds up things …… but still not enough for me to buy a pint against Salford . Tried the fans zone and gave up after 15 mins , then tried the bar in the Thatchers end and again gave up after not moving in the queue after 10 mins . 😭

If I have a card reader next season but someone wants to buy a programme or 50/50 and only has cash, they can pay me and I will use my own card to pay for them.
Hopefully a simple solution and a bit of friendly customer service to help a fellow supporter.
Ps, I have been a volunteer seller for 20 years (does that count as loyalty?).
Also I haven't forgot that one day about 6 years ago I must have accidentally dropped about £60 quid of programme/50/50 money. (I must have not fully zipped up the money pouch and a few £20 notes disappeared - my new trainers were nice though! (sic)).
Trust me if a seller was ever down by a tenner you would be asked questions.
I put a note on the forum so see if anyone had found the money and the mods decided to reimburse the club the lost money, so thanks. It does prove loyalty gets rewarded. (And that money can accidentally get lost).
Personally as a Luddite, I am a bit apprehensive of what will happy if the systems go down when everyone goes cashless though. No doubt a few volunteers will get stick.

That is just your view. I will not give names and they would be embarrassed but i already order tickets for people in their 50’s who either do not have the net and cannot use it. The i think bit is where you assume, there are still many who don’t have a smart phone nor could afford one but they live their lives vicariously through Rovers. I don’t know, it seems many don’t care so long as they are ok. That’s how it comes across, to me People in their 50s should be able to, with relative confidence, should be a little versed in using contactless smart technology. How do these people in their 50s, whom I assume must still have to work for a living handle email? My grandmother who was in her 90s when she died last year was able to operate a phone, her internet banking and other forms of tech. Unfortunately you will not accept that there are still a fair few who do not have basic IT skills. I remember being worried, when i my late 20’s, my company put all of us onto an IT course and i had to get the ECDL or European computer driving license. I did it just fine but the older guys struggled. People are set in their ways Steve and are scared/worried/anxious ( delete where appropriate) to ask for help or to go on any kind of course. Many are set in their ways. I remember facebook being the biggest thing that happened to the computer business as more and more wanted to use it. I was building computers back then and i made a very good living. I tried to explain that all they needed was the most basic of computers yet most wanted the best memory, drive space and video cards with inbuilt ram. Steve, please believe me when i tell you this, many only use socials but have no idea how to use office and other programs. I have taught a lot of people and still get phone calls to this day. My best friend, a multi millionaire through property development, has me buy his tickets as he is too set in his ways to go on a course. His Mrs does his business stuff but he will not let her do the football. You seem to think that all will have enough nous to use computers and the various programs when it is not so. If not for privacy, i could give over 20 names right now. You ask how do they deal with their business stuff, not everyone has a business mucker. Most have 9-5 jobs and their only interaction with tech is the ATM. I do not understand why you will not believe this. I can only say most judge others by their own experience and this is so very wrong, many do not have anything close to yours or mine experience. The younger generations grew up with computers, at school so it will not be a problem but unless the club maybe announces that it is running a computer course then a fair few will find out very hard and need help, as i do for my friends.

Using the giggs on my phone (no WiFi) or do you not do that when you have no WiFi available? I do but I'm not homeless so it surprises me you are able to do that as you paint this sorry picture for yourself? I have some sympathy for you and don't know your full story but you come across on here as feeling a bit sorry for yourself? Your post above sounds like it's bending the truth a little bit based on the evidence provided. So , let’s get this right, being able to post on a forum means you can use various programs and buy via the net right ? I know so many who only use their high end PC’s for socials and NOTHING else at all and because they have no idea of how to. Trying to do accounts and spreadsheets in totally alien to most and even I get wound up when changing my phone to a new one and having top re-set my phone apps and banking apps. You need email and i know many who do not have email and i am not talking young people. It is not as black and white as you think and being judgmental doesn’t help to give confidence to anyone, it just increases their anxiety

They can still use an ATM to get a balance or statement and don’t need to use a computer to pay by card! This conversation is just the same as it was when cheques stopped being accepted everywhere. Many other much larger stadiums are card only. I was at a Premier League ground last week that is cashless.

1981, that all sounds great and I agree with much of that but when you say “most elderly people are.....” that implies that there will be some who aren’t. Without speaking for o2 or anyone else questioning the direction of travel I think that may be part of the problem. There are some elderly and will be others, irrespective of age, who do not or have not the expertise, technical knowledge to be independent from cash or whatever. I’m a supporter of TG having found him very approachable and very efficient. We are progressing and that progress needs to continue but I hope that sufficient support is made available on matchdays or others to make sure that those who are less confident about some of the new ways are supported. Personally I still prefer cash and speaking to people but I’ve had to accept that I live in a technical world with new ways of doing things. I might wish to turn the clock back but accept that it won’t happen. And dare I say at the heart of this is the fact that the club, understandably, are seeking ways to improve income streams in a stadium with limited capacity. Not enough money, too small a stadium. Solve that particular problem and after the teething issues that would inevitably be present for the initial stages of moving it would slowly settle down. And in regard to the OP, without knowing the people or the circumstances involved all I would say is that any change in an organisation is rarely universally popular. There will always be those who dislike how the change is implemented and what it results in, and anecdotes emerge which those implementing the change are usually unable to deal with in an open forum. As ever it is always about the ‘how’ you change things and not always the change itself. UTG! Fair points Wareham. But just as someone isnt old enough to go to football without accompaniment then it kind of applies to some elderly doesn’t it? Just putting it out there, how many fans above the age of say 75 go alone? If someone was older than 80 I would say they would definately be accompanied by their children or even older grand children, so I don’t see how they would be left out in the cold? Incredible generalisations there fella. My father was able to everything unaccompanied until his last day, at the age of 90 and he was sharper of mind that i could ever dream to be.

Absolutely. But did people suddenly refuse to trade with people who wanted to use horses? Or did they allow it to be phased out, perhaps making it more difficult to use the more traditional methods? I don't think the issue is a case of can or not it's a case of won't in a lot of instances. There's a lot of people (generally in their middle to late ages) who have a huge degree of mistrust in digital forms of payment. My partners father is one of those - he withdraws cash and uses it to pay for everything and even turned off the contactless features on not just his own card but her mothers as well. I also knew someone back in my school days when debit cards were taking off who didn't want to use cards to pay for things because he felt he didn't have the ability to budget with it as easily as with physical money. There's a whole manner of reasons like these which I'm personally bemused by. But I understand that to these people they just don't want to use that bit of plastic, IMO to their detriment. I am absolutely in favour of progress and love technology, will jump at the chance to use new means of paying for things and very rarely even get my wallet out these days with the advent of Apple Way and other similar alternatives. But I simply think going cashless is a bit of a kick in the teeth for supporters who don't want to (not necessarily can't) go on the journey with the club and it's tech savvy supporters. People can be remarkably funny about these sorts of things, and to the point of o2bs opener to stop allowing cash is for those who want to use that method very much treating them as a transactional customer and not a loyal supporter of potentially decades which can be counted on multiple hands. What is the harm of accommodating these people? Buying/selling cars is also very, very different to occasional spend on food and drink at a stadium. The reluctance around electronic banking amazes me too as the old magnetic signature strip cards, debit cards and cash machines were the easiest of things to target and fraud and you’re more likely to lose your money than you would be using a secure method of payment. 3 step authentication with facial recognition is the safest form of payment for goods and services. I also use credit cards for everything so my liability is completely limited. Buying cars is different to buying food, but the reconciliation, verification, banking and accounting is actually much harder for the FC. I can imagine totalling up accurately for food and drink bought by over 6500 people. Can you really trust every employee these days not to lift a tenner or some loose change and change the till sheet? You just hit the nail on the head, TRUST, the club is going this way due to this very thing. It was a point of contention for years with many accusing others of pocketing cash from paying supporters. I am close to 99% positive this is about making sure the club gets every penny and not trusting. I can actually understand but i still think it will stop a fair few from coming. The club really should do a one off leaflet drop and run a course on computer use, i think it would be a popular thing and would see a big uptake in those who take up the offer. The club could even make a few bob by doing this

Credit scores and searches go against them as does being in no fixed abode. Look at the way the government is dealing with much of the current financial crises, quantitive easing ( printing more cash) such delicious irony here and sweeping generalisations. Anyway, best get to the clubhouse.

Cheques are virtually never used for day to day transactions in retail outlets now, as for cards not being available, basic bank accounts are available to pretty much everyone, it's how benefits are paid now, there are even pre-paid cards that you can load money onto, our grandkids have them although they are available for all, chip and contactless there is just no way of spending more than you have loaded on, they are no different to debit cards.

Anyway, best get to the clubhouse. Jules see explanation from BBC website “How does QE work? The Bank of England is in charge of the UK's money supply - how much money is in circulation in the economy. That means it can create new money electronically. That's why QE is sometimes described as "printing money", but in fact no new physical bank notes are created” Note the word electronically. Your not printing cash so no irony here. Kids of today don’t like cash. They just use their phone or card. And if you tell me the 8 year old does not have a card; what are they doing buying stuff on their own at a football match anyway. Adults will just have to show guardianship which they should have been doing in the first place. Older people are also used to cards so a card only stadium will have no major impact other than saving the Gas money, which is probably good in the long run.

I can’t remember the last time I wrote one, when a company paid me by one and if someone offered to pay me by cheque now, I would refuse.

I'm also annoyed. I stand on the Thatchers terrace and up to the end of January, it was a very spacious and not too cramped.
Now, the club has decided to sell more tickets on the Thatchers terrace, so I no longer have the space around me that I did before.
It's JB and the teams fault, it's not the clubs fault.
