Staying on subject Widdrington was on Gardening leave for about a year before he left, hes left no system/structure or plans in place - awful appointment. As for Barratt, truly awful signing, displayed zero talent for us and he will naturally disappear out the game soon.

Im still shocked that giving JB some credit still sticks in some peoples throats. its been a huge rebuild from beyond the playing staff and there are so many positives now its really embarrassing to suggest he hasn't been a success regardless if we are promoted or not. He has promised promotion. Anything less (by his own admission) will mean we have been unsuccessful in our objective this season. It is still very much on tho! & I think we can all recognise the positives. The turnaround from December has been unbelievable!!!

Is he being credited with the development of the training ground now too? Fair play.. Anyway, sure we are playing nice football now and winning often. All good. I really hope we do our bit on Saturday and Northampton fluff it. If not, then of course I hope we make it through the play-offs (eek!). It's an incredible turnaround from earlier in the season regardless; when many of us thought playoffs were out of reach (let alone autos!) But he has far from made up for his part in last season yet imo - and if we don't go up then I'm afraid we will be doing another rebuild in League Two. Hoping on signing loan players the calibre of Taylor, Connolly, Thomas and Eliott Anderson again. Also potentially replacing Evans and Nicholson (and whoever else retires or leaves). It could be another slow start if we don't gel before Christmas again.. (early start to the season because of the winter World Cup too). I suppose we should also acknowledge the magistrate-shaped elephant in the room which might well come up again in the summer But I'm going to try and put all that in the back of my mind for now and enjoy Saturday. A couple of early Rovers goals would be great to put a bit of added pressure on the other teams around us and maybe even set us up for the much-needed GD swing!!!! **fingers crossed** If you give Barton credit for nothing else, getting Widdrington out of the club will be something all of us should be grateful for. I don't have any specific dislike for Widdrington tbf. I can't pretend to know the full story, but when he was Head of Recruitment (or Chief Scout or whatever his role was initially) he was involved in signing some decent (albeit mostly ex-Coventry) players. I know he took some of the brunt for last season's catastrophy. But I am a bit unclear on why that was. I think he was promoted to Director of Football in order to bring some practical footballing experience to the boardroom, but his old role wasn't back-filled perhaps suggesting he kept on that responsibility too? If that was the case then he could be held at least partially accountable for the poor recruitment under Garner/Tisdale. But he would have only made recommendations based on the type of player that the manager at the time was after surely? Whatever the case. If Barton came in and did not want to work with a DoF and wanted full control over transfers then TW's position was always going to be untenable. But I am not sure his departure should be anything for us all to be grateful for, necessarily. It just didn't work out. I wasn't grateful for Mansell being released or Clint Hill any of the other backroom staff either really. Tommy Widdrington is no different in that regard.

Positives need to be said more and considered in the context of the job he has done. Cannot remember the last time the Mem sold out three games on the bounce. Yes its a reduced capacity (quickly pointed out) but we are in L2. This didnt happen when the Messiah DC was at the club. Best football we've seen, most successful signings (on the whole), and the most hope that the club is going places. Regardless of promotion I think its been a success

I honestly look back at what Barton had to choose from last season and shudder. This current team would beat that mob 7-0. It really was awful recruitment and I don’t fall out with anything Barton said about them. Guardiola couldn’t have kept that mob up.
Final game of the season our team was Ward Williams Baldwin Harries Lehey Martinez Tutonda Westbrooke Mcormick Hargreaves Rodman
No words needed

Very unusual that the only manager that didnt work with TW had the best recruitment window. No guesses why, the only decent signing TW can stand against is JCH and thats because hes ex Coventry. He did the same as a manager at Kings Lynn getting all our cast offs and it didnt work (again). Makes you wonder what his skill set is, he had trouble in judging a player and also appears to have had limited contacts. if he was still around now I wonder what use he would be, maybe a job as a fluffer wouldnt be beyond him

Turned on TV last night and Forest vs someone was on Sky Sports Football.
Immediately a graphic came up. It was a league table of the top four leagues of English football in 2022 alone.
We were fourth.
Yet some still want to take a pop at our manager for the relegation last season and poor form in the early half of the season when Garninho and Tisdull left him with nothing to work with.

It isn't just about promotion though, he's changed the mentality at the club, and improved things for the future by putting a good backroom team in place, and getting better facilities/equipment for the players. He's set the bar high for the standards required, and I hope that the club will continue with this when he's no longer with us. Is he being credited with the development of the training ground now too? Fair play.. Anyway, sure we are playing nice football now and winning often. All good. Before it was a bit like building a new house and putting in an MFI kitchen, when you should have gone for Poggenpohl with Miele appliances.

Don't forget it was reported on here that he works for Rovers for free. That we're his chosen charity Anyway, as I said; Fair play if he did personally get "better facilities/equipment for the players". Whatever he has done seems to be working and if that is somethig that has contributed then fantastic. We seem to have a fit squad with a winning mentality. Which sets us up nicely for the business end of the season. I just hope that if we end up in the playoffs that Coutts being suspended ( pending appeal) doesn't impact us too negatively.

Fair play, anyway I would imagine that Wael/the club funded it - I think it's good that we've got a manager who wants the best for his players, can only be a postive thing for the current squad and also attracting new signings.

I thought that too. I still hate the way he seemed to throw the towel in last season but also really like what he’s done since. Widdrington, garner and Tisdale can all do one. He’s more than made up for it - so far ! Well done Joe ! 💙UTG No, he hasn't. At the start of the game on Saturday, we are still in a league lower than we were when he took over. When he took over we were not in the relegation zone. Let's all hope that we will be back in that league come Saturday evening or at the end of May. Otherwise, he hasn't really achieved anything other than relegation.

He cannot praise the club enough for the changes made behind the scenes since Barton took over. Apparently the training ground set up is unbelievably professional now compared to before and everything is thought out to the nth degree. He honestly raves about the changes that have been brought in and said the club is geared up for success now like never before. He lays praise for the set up now purely at Barton’s feet as he has been the sole driver in setting up the processes behind the scenes. When he leaves for a bigger club which he eventually will I will be forever thankful for what he has done for our football club.

In not taking any blame for King Lynn’s relegation, I agree he is exactly the same as JB and his attitude to his part in our relegation last season. However, just because they have reacted the same, does it mean they are the same, the situations are the same, and their refusal to take any blame is the same? Given free reign, Barton has clearly transformed the quality of the squad, players attitudes, playing style and eventually results on the pitch. I suppose to be fair to Tommy the same could be said for him! Barton is clearly a highly focussed individual and knows exactly what he’s looking for. This is what his ex loanee, the very highly rated,Harry Soutter, who was with him at Fleetwood said about him last week; ‘He’s very Black and White, he’ll say what he wants you to do for the team, and you know your roll down to a tee, and I think that’s why we had such a successful season’
