“The club is delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Rossiter from Fleetwood Town.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who is capped for England at U19 level, joins Rovers on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee and is our first signing of the summer transfer window.
Rossiter began his career at Liverpool where he was highly thought of, winning their Academy Player of the Year Award in 2014. Jordan made his first-team debut for Liverpool the following season in a League Cup clash against Middlesborough and scored his first professional goal in the same game.
Jordan would later go on to make both his Premier League and European debuts for Liverpool in the 2015-16 season against Arsenal and Bordeaux. He linked up with Rovers manager Joey Barton when he joined Scottish giants Rangers on a four-year deal in 2016. Jordan made his debut for Rangers in a Scottish League Cup tie against Stranraer in July 2016. Rossiter would go on to make 10 appearances for the club, scoring one goal, which came in a 5-5 draw against Hibernian.
Jordan left Rangers permanently for Fleetwood Town in 2020, who Joey Barton managed at the time, after loan spells with Bury (January 2019) and Fleetwood themselves (July 2019). At Fleetwood, Jordan would line up alongside many current Rovers players, including Rovers captain Paul Coutts, Sam Finley and Harvey Saunders. Jordan played 41 times for The Cods and was made their club captain in 2021.
On his move to BS7 Jordan said:
"I can't wait to get started. I was aware that Rovers were interested in me as soon as the season finished and I'm really excited to be able to call myself a Rovers player.
"I've played at The Mem before but that was during the COVID season. I know just how special the atmosphere is there and I'm excited to experience it for the first time. I've worked alongside the manager before at Fleetwood and I know how ambitious both he and Rovers are!"
Joey Barton said:
"We are delighted to welcome Jordan to Bristol Rovers. A player who I know very well, Jordan is a leader both on and off the pitch.
“His dynamic and combative style, combined with his excellent football ability, will strengthen us in our midfield area. “I’m looking forward to working with Jordan again; he will be a superb addition to our group.””

Welcome to the Gas Jordan. Another player Joey knows well and after last season who am I to doubt his judgement. Have to say I agree. To date the recruitment by Barton has been spot on. I just shut my eyes and ears to all else...that helps. Rossiter, on paper, looks like just the player we need to have decent season in L1. If we could get Taylor and Connolly back in defence then we could have a VERY good season. Feel the tingle

Definitely a lot of potential and JB has shown his pedigree in bringing the best out of players, I was of a similar mind on Finlay and Evans when they signed, hopefully we have another success story here! Welcome Jordan.

Welcome Jordan. True, but not all worked quite that way. Pitman, Clark, Brown, Hughes. Certainly the majority tho.

Welcome to the gas. He is a quality player with a better than League 1 pedigree. Good luck to him, I hope he stays injury free and if he does and if he’s in the mould of the other midfielders JB has recruited I think our squad’s quality looks very good. As ever once the season starts we’ll find out but cautiously optimistic. Lots of pieces of the jigsaw are being put in place. CBs and perhaps a wide attacking midfielder and a striker to come, hopefully.
UTG!

If he can move past his injuries, this will be a decent signing and I think a longer term ready-made solution for when Coutts leaves (probably after this season).

Welcome. Hope you're fit for at least the first three games when Coutts is still suspended

I don't know much about him and what sort of player he is. Could he fit into the 4-2-3-1 style we seemed to have adopted later last season or could he bring options for a different formation?

Could work out a good signing ,only time will tell. See this as a Coutts replacement with Coutts taking over the vacant Whelan place in the squad.

Like many, I’m worried about the injuries. At Liverpool/Rangers he never got going due to lots of niggling injuries. That was part one of his career. Since leaving Rangers he’s seemed a bit more robust yet still clearly hampered by injuries:
Bury/Fleetwood Feb 19 - Nov 19: 36 appearances Serious knee injury Nov 19: out for a year Fleetwood Nov 20 - Oct 21: 46 appearances Oct 21 - now: injured
Does anyone know what he’s been out with since last October?
On the surface it does seem like a punt but it’s worth remembering that Barton was his manager when he suffered that knee injury so he must know more about him than most.

Can only judge him by how he does in the quarters but his injury record doesnt look great. I imagine Fleetwood had decent backroom staff to go with the great training base though?

Welcome Jordan. True, but not all worked quite that way. Pitman, Clark, Brown, Hughes. Certainly the majority tho. The majority of them were brought in for experience and because we were desperate. Most of the younger player's that were brought in, have worked out though. All managers will make mistakes. Looks like his fitness will be the main problem, so fingers crossed, he will stay fit!

Bit of a gamble ( it’s the sort of gamble we have taken before and lost on ) but if he stays fit could be a good move . Welcome to the Gas
