Please say I wasn't the only one who thought this meant a penalty as in a spot kick before opening the link. 😳

How does that work in the case of the whole stadium invading the pitch after promotion?

The 1991 law was brought in to stop fans invading the pitch with malicious intent, not to penalise the parents of children who get a bit over excited.
What is the world coming to?

It will be interesting to see what happens when in one of the early rounds televised FA cup games when a minnow knocks out a higher league club & there’s a guaranteed pitch invasion.

That reminded me of the Parka invasion, when Hereford beat Newcastle. You have to be of a certain age to know what I mean. 😁😳

JB's wife brings the kids along to matches, will have to make sure they don't run on the pitch or Mummy and Dad could get banned from the Mem

Assaulting players, or anyone else for that matter is never being "over excited". Incredibly difficult to prove intent so makes sense to just make the act illegal.

Not sure there's any other laws/rules in the UK where a parent can be penalised for their child committing an offence? What are they supposed to do, handcuff their kids to them during a match just in case they might invade the pitch? What actually counts as a pitch invasion this season, are they all now banned including after big cup wins etc?

It's something totally unworkable, are they really going to identify 1,000s of spectators and then ban them all, and also ban their parents/guardians?

All they need to do is identify a dozen or two each time and punish them. That should be enough of a deterrent to start making this self entitled bunch think twice - if the vast majority of us can watch without entering the playing arena then they’ll have to learn to do the same. What was one of the greatest days in our history was tarnished (albeit slightly!) when these selfish morons caused the suspension of play.

The OP was talking about the post match pitch invasions, there were probably more Gasheads on the pitch after the Scunthorpe victory than left on the terraces and in the stands.

Same reasoning applies. Keep picking the easiest identifiable (preferably the first ones on who start all the other sheep off) and ban them. The message will start to filter through and stop this ridiculous trend of self obsessed, entitled morons who think they have some devine right to be part of an event when they’ve only paid to be spectators

The rules are still the same rules they have been for years If you go on the pitch, you risk being banned like you always have

Posters now making out it's a serious crime were probably on the pitch themselves after the Scunthorpe game.
