The most baffling thing is people being surprised by the decision. It was a no brainer it was going to happen, get over it. Pay your respects.
How should we do this. Please do tell us. No one was surprised because we are a daft country, so bound to happen. If you think this makes one person more likely to pay respects you have no idea. More respect and commemoration would have been at a game. I think every game for the 17 day mourning period should now be off, you?
There is lots ta consider by th relevant authorities ta be fair, one most certainly bein that police required for football are needed elsewhere during th ‘Operation London Bridge’ protocol.
As much in life it’s not as simple as folk like ta think it is. 👍🏼
I’ll never forget my friend, our friend Gregsgas, he truly made a difference.
Why can’t we pay our respects when we’re all together as a community. Why is it more respectful to be at home doing nothing?
You can but it's what a couple of games that are going to be delayed. Is it the end of the world?
I think carrying on as normal would underempthasise the significance of this of not just for us or in our life time but in world history.
It wouldn't be carrying on as normal, there would be minutes silence, Black armbands and singing the anthem which would have been more poignant and respectful IMHO.

So everything should stop? Or what are the rules to correctly "empthasise" the right amount? Thats my point. It is achieving nothing. It's the "thought and prayers" type platitude and actually probably takes away from what could have been a meaningful outpouring of admiration and thanks Hohum. At least this is hopefully the end of the monarchy as we know it. It got by on the wide respect for her. None of the rest have any.

Both of which are quite common so would underempthasise it for me. Matter of opinions.

Didn't go very well at the Arsenal game last night where there was plenty of booing from the Arsenal fans.
Absolute joke calling games off !..Show respect with minute silence/applause etc . One certainty in life is death and people die every day ! Life goes on , it should not come to a standstill for one Person.
All grassroots football cancelled by the FA. Absolute farcical overreaction. Kids getting their games cancelled will go to the cinema, be dragged out shopping by their parents, go to McDonalds or sit on the X boxes all day instead - unless of course they do what the FA presumably expect them to do which is sit indoors in their funeral attire looking miserable.
Great North Run going ahead Sunday. Bristol v Bath rugby going ahead Saturday. People at both events will get the opportunity to be part of a public show of respect. Football fans won’t.
At least some event organisers have the balls to apply common sense.
Pathetic If the funeral is Monday, great no events Absolute joke. Get rid of the rest of them asap, no way for a country to behave in 2022.
10 days of respect? And that's a joke for you? Plenty of other ways our Country is behaving to be worried about.
Yes. It is. Why is "respect" just no sport and some other things? No problem with the mourning period. No problem with organised events. No problem respecting and remembering her life. But why pick and choose a few things that have to stop? But agree, plenty of other things to worry about in this country. None of which are getting better with an obsession with monarchy. If anything, they are getting worse.

Strikes have been cancelled also so it's not just Sport stepping down to show respect. Not sure Monarchy obsession is also correct, just a humble feeling towards a Lady who put 70 years worth of service into her role as Queen.

As a chairman of a local grassroots kid's football club, totally agree. What a great opportunity to talk to the kids about their country, the monarchy, pride and respect, and how they are part of something much bigger than them. Wasted.
It's perfectly normal for the recipient of an ongoing service to expect the provider to make improvements to that service over time, and to share plans for the future with customers.

Went to shops today and they were as busy as ever. Pubs, cinemas, nightclubs etc are all open. People have to work and children have to go to School. The queen used to be believe in things carrying on. Other sports are carrying on.
So why is it that football has to stop?? Can still show respect at football matches and in many other ways.
Don't get how it's being more respectful to cancel it. Lots suffer from mental health and stuff and football is the one thing they look forward to. .
If everything had stopped,I could understand. But not when everything else is carrying on.
Could have had a tribute and sang the national anthem before every game. What will people be doing now?? Children bored at home and adults off to the pub!! Not really showing respect is it???
