www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-fans-plan-touching-7905678Surprised there's been no mention of this tribute on Gaschat. "Bristol Rovers fans plan to show their support for former manager Darrell Clarke when his Port Vale side visit the Mem on Saturday. Clarke suffered tragedy in February with the death of his 18-year-old daughter Ellie, and the Gas icon has inspired many with his courage in the aftermath, leading Vale to promotion via the League Two play-offs just a few months later. Gasheads, led by the Bristol Rovers Away Days Twitter account, plan to show solidarity for their double promotion-winning former manager with a minute's applause in the 18th minute, much like the 16th-minute applause that has become a regular occurrence at home games in support of Nick Anderton – who is recovering after a cancer operation."

Not sure about this.
Love DC but concerned that it could bring unbearable emotions to him in the middle of an important game and leave him in turmoil. May be best to wait until after the match has finished. Also might be too close to the 16th minute applause which may confuse Vale fans to mixing up the two.

Agreed DC won't need reminding surely a round of applause at the beginning as he walks across pitch should be sufficient I sincerely hope JB does not come up with anything about his dismissal at the Mem at Fleetwood match in 2018 when Dc celebrated the late James Clarke winner.

Plus surely it needs to be agreed by the club (and DC himself?) not just thought up by some random group of fans as being a good idea.

I think he already knows what we think. A warm welcome then down to business. Good intentions yes but let the bloke get on with his life and grieve in his own way,

Coughlan was (caretaker) manager at the game you reference. Dc had left a week or so before that game.

I know folk mean well but i am with those who believe a prematch welcome is sufficient, any thing else will i believe be to upsetting for DC when he is trying to do the impossible and move on, he knows the feelings we have for him without further expressions of our sympathy. Please Gas heads leave it be for DC's sake.

Well intentioned but I think it would have the wrong outcome for DC. Especially the strong connection with her age. I hope I’ll never be in DCs shoes in this regard but I would imagine that something like that would be more upsetting than comforting. I think a clap across the pitch will be more than enough.

A clap as he crosses the pitch, and maybe a chorus of "There's only one Darrell Clarke", then let him concentrate on the business in hand. I don't think that during the match is the time to highlight it.

Definitely not needed during the game,a nice welcome back before then let the guy try and get on with the game,he surely knows we are all with him regarding his sad loss, and definitely to close to the other minutes tribute.

Agree with those who think this is not good idea. A show of solidarity/love by clapping DC before the game is fine - but during the game is inappropriate. We have no idea how he would react and it would be unfair on DC to raise such a personal issue when he's concentrating on football.

Intentions all well and good, but that reminder is definitely not needed from 8000 people at any point, let alone when you’re trying to get on with your job. Especially the 18th minute thing because she was 18, christ🤦🏻

Anyone said all this on the "original" postings - wherever that is?

Just reading the Vale forum and they have the same view that it's not a good idea. So someone on Twitter suggests it, people disagree and that should be it. No, Bristol sh1t journalism jump on it, don't read the room and quote that it has support when it doesn't.

Nice thing to do but, agree that it shouldn't happen. Maybe something after the final whistle like someone mention on this thread.
DC probably knows that the we still support him
A couple of generic "Ooh Darrell we love you!" Will do 🙂

Stick to the football because we know nothing about his personal self.

IMHO a standing ovation from Gasheads when DC takes to the pitch before kickoff is the best way of showing our respect to him, even though I can see the good intentions of an applause on 18 minutes, I just think personally it’s a bit too emotional for the situation.
