I dont see the point of this signing, unless, Belly is carrying an injury that needs rest or even surgery. The point being Jed is still learning his way and Jakkola is nowhere near the keeper we need should Belly pick up a knock.

If he goes straight in then not sure on this one No keeper can keep clean sheets behind our defence this season. Agree. Even allowing for some of Belly's recent clangers, the GK position is the least of our defensive concerns right now. And he possibly comes straight in facing Wycombe......... good luck with that behind our current back line young man!

Whether it's to completely take Belly's place or to just give him some proper stiff competition. I see it as a good signing.
Welcome to the club, Ellery!

Interesting to see some have reverted back to thinking weāre above using the loan systemš¤¦š»
Eliot Anderson? Josh Coburn?
We wonāt get anywhere near the champ with academy and āproperā signings alone.

Wembley Winner for Bromley in FA Trophy Final in 2022. Sent off in Denmark. Injured and taken off at half time on league debut for Crawley Town
Welcome ELLERY RONALD BALCOMBE
Born 15.10.1999 Watford
Height & Weight 6ā 3ā; 11 st 14 lbs Goalkeeper
Career: Castle Lower School, Bedford; Bedford Panthers; 2012 Stevenage; 2013 Brentford (professional, 15.10.16); 6.8.18 Boreham Wood (loan); 2.9.19 Viborg FF (loan) [8,0]; 6.1.21 Doncaster Rovers (loan) [15,0]; 29.6.21 Burton Albion (loan); 31.1.22 Bromley (loan); 30.7.22 Crawley Town (loan) [10,0].19.1.23 Bristol Rovers (loan)
Shortly after being recalled from his loan to Crawley Town, the tall, right-footed goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe was sent out by his mother club Brentford to Rovers. Manager Joey Barton needed to shake up his side, which had reached a comfortable mid-table position midway through the first season back in third-tier football, and Balcombeās signing offered competition between the sticks for James Belshaw. Moreover, he had already played against The Gas at The Mem, being in goal in April 2021 when Doncaster lost 2-1 to two Luke McCormick goals, despite James Coppinger becoming the oldest opponent to score a League goal against Rovers. Born in Hertfordshire to parents from St Vincent and the Grenadines, Balcombe had excelled at sport at an early age, winning the Outstanding Achiever award at the December 2017 Bedford Sports Awards. An Arsenal supporter, he was a reserve at Brentford to first Jack Bonham and later Luke Daniels, becoming a regular for Brentford B in 2016-17, the season he helped them secure the Kai Thor Cup, and playing thirty times in 2017-18, his form earning a place on the bench for an FA Cup-tie against Notts County. Loan spells followed; eight Conference games at Boreham Wood began with a dĆ©but in the goalless draw with Havant and Waterlooville, playing alongside Ćngelo Balanta, Ricky Shakes and Daniel Woodards; eight matches in the Danish League ended with a red card in a 2-1 defeat against HB KĆøge in November 2019, after which he returned to Brentford with a back injury requiring surgery; at Doncaster, he saved two penalties in a 1-0 win against Lincoln City and one of many saves against West Ham in the FA Cup earned a nomination for the Save of the Round Award; after just three Football League Trophy outings with Burton, fifteen Conference matches at Bromley alongside Joe Partington preceded a Wembley appearance in May 2022, his side defeating Wrexham 1-0 to win the FA Trophy before a crowd of 46,111 which included David Beckham and Will Ferrell. Club form earned international recognition, Balcombe playing three times for the England Under-18 side and nine times at Under-19 level, before six appearances for the England Under-20 team included being a squad member at the 2017 Toulon Tournament, which England won. In the summer of 2022, Balcombe was loaned out to Crawley Town, where he played alongside Tony Craig, Tom Nichols and Dominic Telford; despite being substituted through injury against Carlisle United in his first appearance, he conceded just eleven goals in his ten League matches before signing for Rovers.

If nothing else it shows that JB will not hesitate to replace fans favourites in his quest to improve us. Itās something that Iām surprised at as I thought we had other priorities but the mood music of the last two days was leading to this signing. I canāt see him not playing so I have a degree of sympathy for Belshaw but itās a real sign of JBs intent, standards canāt drop even for a couple of games and perhaps a warning to others. Mind you being behind our defence canāt have been comfortable recently. Iām sure the other defensive signings are coming but weāve lost 3 CHs, two have left and one with injuries and havenāt strengthened that position and with a few key matches coming up. I said earlier I hope JB hadnāt talked himself into believing that all the best signings come at the end of the window so he wonāt sign early ones. Tomorrow may be interesting. JB has earned a bit of patience with his record but then so did Belly! š

A few mistakes this season, but for most of his 18 months at Rovers Belshaw has been VERY good, so I'm a little surprised we've signed another keeper.
Time will tell of Balcombe is an improvement on Belshaw, but I fear we'll continue to ship goals unless we sign some quality defenders.
Welcome to the Gas, Ellery.
