I wonder where this leaves Belly as he really going to be content to sit on the bench for the rest of his Rovers career, or at least as long as JB's our manager, or will be looking to get a move elsewhere if he's dropped for Saturday's game?

Just goes to show how quickly football can change. Half a year ago he was our player of the season.

You don’t think there’s an inbetween where he fights for his place?

He needs competition as he’s been slack lately, costing us points, romanticising over last season wasn’t any good for us against Exeter.

You can’t have players knowing they’ll play every week no matter what. That’s it, end of.
That is unless you just want to coast & drift season on season and achieve sweet FA.
Competition for places is essential.

Exeter seemed the exception as I can't recall him costing us any goals since that game?

I sense it's like the T Clarke situation once JB makes his mind up there's no going back, I just can't see Brentford recalling their player from regular L2 football without some assurances that he be getting regular L1 football, as they won't have any interest in Balcombe just being here to sit on the bench in order to give Balshaw competition. Pretty sure Balcombe has been first choice keeper at every club he's been loaned to in the past? It'll be interesting to see who starts in goal on Saturday.

I'm thinking back to the game against Exeter at their place, the home game against Accrington, the Lincoln thrashing and various other games. Not at all surprised we have brought in another keeper. gasheads.proboards.com/post/874050

No idea if this guy is any good but we definitely need someone pushing Belly who has let in some soft goals this season. It seems Belshaw is immune from criticism by some but he has had made quite alot of mistakes and his confidence has taken a massive hit. This is a welcome signing which should give good competition for the number 1 Jersey.

He’s been dodgy many games this season, Pirate has mentioned them, flapping and charging out, perhaps a level up too far ? Perhaps we could bring back Gary Penrice as he scored lots of goals.

I think there is some very harsh criticism. He's behind a much weaker defence, that means he has to take more risks to cover and that increases the chances of mistakes

Welcome to the new lad.
Re Belly. You could count on one hand the games he has been at fault for goals. The number of games he has kept us in it massively outweighs any mistakes for me.

To be fair , if it was as you described we wouldn’t have bought in a new goal keeper. He’s here for a reason , either to be number 1 or put serious pressure on our no. 1

You think replacing Belly as our number 1 will do his confidence any good? I like the quality of the new lad but I think putting him straight in will do more harm than good. Guess we'll see.
