I rate white but he has had a lot of injuries. Mansell and Sinclair will be fine at this level. We need a bloody team though !!!!
DC was woefully naive the last 8 games and very sure of himself followin relegation. Time to make it happen

Im just narked off with how he blamed Ward for everything, promised us he had all these contacts and would have them in by pre season and we have only signed half of what we need none of which inspire me. A bad start that needs putting right. Add this to the stadium woes, a secret intenal review and huh cut backs we are in serious need of some good news. Stick with it mate, to quote one of my most used phrases in football "nobody has died here", it is a difficult period in the life of our club but we need to stick together. Phil Would we be much worse off starting again in the southern league with a new board if the stadium falls through? At least we would have our club back. We nees some good news and fast.

I don't want to turn this into a board/club bashing thread as I don't think that is fair on Smudger but for me, this is another frustrating example of the ridiculously poor communication from the board.
Sky Sports posted that article over an hour ago and it included quotes from Smith saying how he had informed both DC and Higgs of his decision and yet there is still no official communication from the club regarding the matter.
I am hoping they are going to offset the news by announcing the signing of a player but I am not holding my breath. These rose tinted glasses are slowly starting to slide down my nose...

DC is struggling to get players in because we don't have a penny to scratch our arses with!
Would anyone go for Tom Lockyer at RB? It's not his greatest position, but it means he nails down a starting place week in, week out and is defensively sound. Get an out and out right winger to make up for Lockyer being less attacking than Smudger. I know he got a bit hammered by Holmes at Pompey but there aren't wingers as good as Ricky Holmes at conference level.

I dont blame the club or Smith for him leaving but we are in serious trouble right now. Sorry to rant and i really want my fears about DC to be allayed. Someone post something optimistic about how we are going to win the league or something

BBC Bristol sport @bbcbristolsport 9m Bristol Rovers confirm defender Michael Smith has handed in a transfer request. I'd imagine they're in the process of a press release soon. Obviously the sky report is due to Smudger's agent.

That aside we should be able to find players thatl play for £1000 a week , even Cureton would do.

I think the club told Smith he would have to put in a request if he wanted to leave (loses his loyalty bonus perhaps)

Whilst I've been more than critical of the lack of quality incomings, I can't blame the board for this. They've turned down 'multiple bids' for Smith. Pay us what he's worth or he's not leaving.

The wage cap is frustrating but it is what we SHOULD do, what the fans have been crying out for for years. Yes, it means signing players is harder but we can't maintain the way we were running, particularly in the conference. I wouldn't touch Cureton with a barge pole and nor should Clarke. As he said, no more players with big bellies who mainly care about wage and Cureton is a prime example of this. He may of turned out to be a good player for us, but there is as big a chance he wouldn't, Clarke shouldn't go back on his philosphy because we're struggling to get in players. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we're going to have a good season. But I still think what Clarke is doing is right in terms of the type of signing he wants to make. He's suffering because agents see us as an easy target due to Lennie/Trolls, Buckle, McGhee and Ward and it'll take a while to change that (if we don't perform this season it might even cost him his job) but do I disagree with the why he's doing it? Nope, because it needs to be done, no matter how frustrating it is.

Very sad news. Who didn't rate Smudger? Quality player,m reliable and talented and what we all love - a 100%er.
My only disappointment with the club is that was a likely outcome and in my own opinion i think Josh Southway could have stepped up, that is why we have an academy, not just to move the very best on to a higher level as was the case with Macey, Mehew etc. It seems to lack good planning letting Josh go when Smudger was always likely to leave, he would surely have been a short term replacement if nothing else.
As for Michael smith, i wish him every good wish possible, and hope Mr McCoist has been told he is available, cause he could play in the Scottish Second tier for fun.
Good luck Smudge.

What concerns me the most about this is that hes made this decision after preseason training started. If he thought we had a chance of going straight up based on the squad that is building then he would have taken this in to account. I hope that his statement is true per verbatim and not that hes just not impressed with the squad. DC now needs to pull his finger out pretty quick Id say. Hmmm…..I must admit that a similar thought had crossed my mind. Hope we're reading too much into it!

He doesnt seem to know who he wants ? Jamie Cureton is a prolific striker he supports the Gas. We need a few wise heads amongst a very young squad. He would guarantee us 20 goals.

JC supports Norwich? He only supports the gas when talking to the media when his contract is finishing. And Cheltenham. And Torquay. And Exeter. Ad nauseam. Guy is a prolific goal scorer yes. Also a prolific mercenary journeyman space cowboy from the future.

What really disappoints me also (while i'm in a ranting mood now) is...
At the SC EGM the club all agreed communication with supporters MUST improve.
Now, Smudger has said "the club and manager understand". so it's pretty much confirmed...... Yet we are finding out from Sky Sports, Radio Bristol etc.
Hours later, still nothing Official from our club, and people blame us/criticise us because we speculate!
Just like the UWE - FFS tell us what you can and we won't need to bloody speculate - Please.

DC is full of Bullshit imo, so many managers come here promising us the world. So far we have signed a Forest Green reserve striker, a player not good enough for Exeters development side, a promising but injury plagued striker from Salisbury. Whilst Mansell and Sinclair are more promising these are very worrying times or us Gasheads. What the flip is going on? Dins, There is what the manager wants and is promised at the time but then there is Twatola who only now has made the calculations and given DC a totally different cloth to cut. This is down to the recent meetings and budget being cut to the bone. I am surprised that so many still believed what the board says. I don't mean to come across all " I told you so" but this lots word is not worth a thing. I still think we will have one or two more leave. I reckon Parkes and Lockyer will get interest. Let's see.
