Wish they would lose him already. He wants to leave and even a perfect attitude is going to waver eventually. Agree a fee and move on. Id rather we dealt with it now than in January. Great player, great attitude but wants out. Get rid. Can't agree with that at all mate. We've got Higgins lined up already, Turley all but signed. We have no reason to wish to push it through. We stand by our valuation, and should not change that. Don't let them take us for granted. understand that but don't agree. Its two weeks until we have to hit new ground running and the defence is a problem we could do without at the moment. Still other positions to deal with and this is just holding everything up. Id release him on a free.... ...well no I wouldn't but I wouldn't be haggling so long.

Ok, here's my tuppence worth:
Smith is a quality player and a top pro.
BUT
Despite him being in the League Two team of the year last year, we are now on a non-league side.
I'm not in any way blaming Smith - my point is that having one of the best players in the division is not anywhere near as important as having even a semi-decent TEAM.
Smith wants out. We are still 4 or 5 players (at least) away from being a side that can genuinely challenge next year.
I'd much rather Smith leave for around £200k and invest that money wisely in the 4/5 players we need, than have him stick around and have a right-back far too good for this division but and under strength, small squad as a result.
Accept Peterborough's initial offer (which I understand was £200k and therefore reasonable) and get on with recruiting the players we desperately need in order to have any chance of GENUNIELY competing next season.
I appreciate there's no guarantee DC will be given the money to spend; of course if that's the case we may as well keep Smith. But I would genuinely hope (even if naively) that the money from the Smith transfer will be given in pretty much it's entirety to DC to spend as he sees fit.

I am sure i read a statement saying the Board had accepted a bid from Posh,we just needed to sort out add ons, like sell on clauses and if they win promotion and Smith plays a certain amount of games, unless something has changed i haven't seen yet

Last I heard no fee agreed and Smith back training with us this morning. It must have been on this or the other forum,it was also saying Smith wasn't picked for the Yeovil game because he was at the posh game, to discus personal terms i assumed and he couldn't do that without our permission. But if you have heard he is back training with us and no fee agreed it is strange. But i definitely read it and it quoted NH

Seems like we're driving a hard bargain. Despite their many failings, the board do seem to do well with outgoing transfers, with all the add ons etc. Just a shame they were so sh**e with incoming transfers.
