You either love them or loathe them.
There are players who everyone agrees is usually good, with the odd duff game.
Then there's those who everyone agrees is duff, with the odd good game.
But there's also those who, after a game, will be given 8/10 by one fan, yet 2/10 by another (or even 1/10)!
Our current 'Marmite' player seems to be Matty Taylor. Read any of the sites and opinions vary from quality player to load of rubbish.
In recent years David Clarkson split opinions.
Can you think of any other 'Marmite' players, either past or present? For many David Beckham was one such player, and over the river Lee Johnson had fans at one another's throats!

Jamie Cureton got pelters from some sections of the crowd which could never understand.
Dare I mention JJOT?

Jo Kuffour springs to mind. Back in the day the group who I go with, some thought he was good, some thought he was rubbish. (I thought he was good!)

Just thought about David Clarkson. I thought he was quality, and always brought something to a game. Many thought he was a waste of space.

Chris Lines appears to be the current favourite (and was a previous favourite) for the Marmite title. Tom Parkes, due to not being as good as last season, also seems to be causing some division of opinions.

I work with a guy who doesn't rate Steve Elliott.
Now that's just bonkers.

Lee Nicholls. most people seem to rate him, I dont. But there again I love Marmite.! From past players there is a guy I stand with who still argues the case for Gary Kenneth. Football is like most things in life, its all about opinions.

Football is like most things in life, its all about opinions. We often talk about memorable moments in football. One of my most vivid, for all the wrong reasons, was seeing Kenneth come on (and then go off!) the field at Ashton Gate. He looked like two Ian Dowies morphed into one!

I was never convinced with Josh low when he was with us, however he did have some good games when playing against us..... which is very typical of most ex players who could not perform in the quarters!

And going way back Steve White split opinions, some, unfairly, blamed him for taking the departed Paul Randalls place but he had a longer and more productive career than Randall. Going even further back Stuart Taylor was never rated by some but he must have done something right to hold the all time appearance record, a record that is unlikely ever to be beaten.

On a slight variation: Stuart Campbell. Excellent player, I thought, but some turned against him over the management shenanigans.

Btw am I entirely alone in the world on this: I quite like Marmite, but then again not all that much. It's just ok.

Jamie Cureton got pelters from some sections of the crowd which could never understand. Dare I mention JJOT?Definition of a marmite player...half the crowd loved how he saved some games in the last few minutes, the rest understood that the team selection and tactics *forcing* him to be in it were why we were losing with 5 minutes to go...
