Christ. So if there was a fee involved, like 10k or something, we'd get out bid by welling utd or alfreton because we are so skint! Total BS. Who else will be getting 4k+ crowds next year? All these noobies will be on small wages plus the freeing up of all those that have left. Jjot, Harrold, Gow, Beardo, Smudge. There's 10k a week easy. I'm not denying there will be money for wages. I just don't see a supposedly fractured board finding the money for transfer fees.

Just to clarify, I don't expect us to be paying a fee. It was just a general question asking for confirmation as I know he's young (but not sure how young) and know FGR offered him an improved contract so may have been looking at a tribunal. With almost quarter of a million pounds on it's way for Smithy, it may have been plausible. I think you're right. As far as I can see he's out of contract. I can't find anywhere where it says if he's been offered new terms by FGR though. If he's offered the same or better then Rovers may have to cough up some cash. I see FGR offered Matty Taylor a new deal, but he turned it down. Must have been a worse deal than the one he was on, as that was a free transfer They did offer him a new deal, and it looks like he will join us on less money.

Right I've clearly missed something here, Is this Turley signing a rumour or stronger than that? I've seen nothing other than whispers on forums and Facebook (presumably recycled from the forums).
Looks like it will be a bit of a coup if true but I'm not sure how people can start discussing what position he will play in when he isn't even our player yet... weren't we very close to a signing last week, even the official twitter confined it, yet even that fell through.
Let's hope we are more successful with this one!

Possibly we're saving the announcement for just after we've announced Smith leaving?
Soften the blow and all that jazz.

Turley was at the Mem yesterday, as confirmed by a club employee at Mangoes last night.
I would imagine that his signing will indeed be confirmed at the same time as Smudgers departure.
There is no fee involved because even though he has been offered a deal at FGR, he is over 24 so doesn't command one.
He will not be on less money than at FGR.

@official_BRFC: DC confirms that Jamie Turley is a player that interests him, but the player broke his arm in the summer & would need to undertake medicals.

Shouldn't think a broken arm would be a long term concern. It's not like a dodgy knee or thigh that could go at any time. Main concern would be he would have a lot of catching up to do match fitness wise as I assume he missed any sort of proper pre season.

If we want him, why can we not sign him 'subject to successful completion of medical' when his arm heals?
Yet another player I hadn't heard of at the start of the summer who I'm now desperate for us to sign, funny old game isn't it....

Arm thing is bull. Its about whether a fee is agreed for Smith. Just as soon as Smith signs for someone else we will be able to get this guy.

I was under the impression from DC's comments today that the Higgins deal hinges on whether Smith leaves or not. I'm not sure Turley would be affected, well that was what I would have thought.

All about wages mate. Probably find that both those deals are riding on Smith leaving. The rest of a meagre budget is settled on other positions. Certainly now we have heard little about Mansells injury?
Turley would be a good signing no doubt and is clearly interested so there has to be something holding back the signing and it sure as hell ain't a broken arm. That stuff gets covered in subject to medical.
We also have had a while to sign Higgins and haven't made that jump yet. Wouldn't surprise me to see him leave if Turley signs anyway.

Surely this is something that the board and DC know and no one else? It makes sense, sort of, but we need another centre back regardless to if Smith goes or not, we currently have 3 dont we? so with the system we have been playing there is no backup whatsoever. I'd have thought we have budget for one more defender??

Surely the Board will learn that to fill the bench with Youth team players will only guarantee that we will fail to even finish this season in a play off position. To wait until Smiths move is negotiated is ridiculous. We need another centre half AND put it that way we need cover at full back as well. Higgins and Turley will not hang around for too long and we will end up losing out on all counts as Smith will no doubt go. WE also still need two midfielders (or wingers) and another striker (2 if Brunt is not fit). Speculate to accumulate because failure top do so will result in a poor start and if that occurs the attendances will go down. Correct Managing of the situation NOW can bring a successful start and if that occurs we can maintain last seasons attendances. People will attend to watch a successful side whether it be League 1,2 or the Conference.

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke confirms interest in signing former Forest Green Rovers defender Jamie TurleyBy JamesMcNamara | Posted: July 24, 2014 Comments (2) Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has this morning confirmed an interest in signing former Forest Green Rovers defender Jamie Turley. Clarke revealed that he had met with the imposing central defender and would consider offering him a deal pending the results of medical tests to assess the seriousness or otherwise of a broken arm sustained over the summer. Clarke, who worked with Turley when the pair were together for a spell at Salisbury City, said: “Jamie is a very quick, powerful and solid central defender at Conference Premier level and is also someone I know very well. “He is an England C international who could quite comfortably play at Football League level and is a player that definitely interests me, but we have to assess how serious the injury is to his arm. “We are waiting on a doctor’s report because we do not want to take any chances as a football club and we need to be sure that he is recovering. “Jamie is a bit short of being able to do any contact work at the moment, but we’ll have to wait and see what develops. “He would be a great signing for Bristol Rovers, but we are not in the sort of financial position to take a gamble on any player. Nothing is concrete at this moment in time because Jamie is also the subject of a lot of interest elsewhere as well.” Turley, 24, started out inside the youth ranks at Wycombe Wanderers, but quickly onto Conference Premier League Salisbury after failing to make a breakthrough at Adams Park. Remained loyal to Salisbury and stayed at the Raymond McEnthill Stadium when the club were demoted to the Southern Premier Division soon after entering administration and helped them secure back-to-back promotions before joining Forest Green in the summer of 2011.
