Just imagine a Rovers v Pompey/Oxford/Plymouth Play off final. Cracking.

Just for comparison, this time last year we were 3rd in the Conference table, 8 points behind Barnet. OK, we ultimately just failed to overhaul them, but we are only 4 behind Oxford, 9 behind Plymouth and 11 behind Northampton. One thing that last season taught us is how it is always useful to aim upwards, rather than worry about those behind. One of the 3 above us might start to slip and Rovers could be there to take their place. Yeah and we're chasing 3 this time as opposed to one last season. I think the top 3, us, Pompey and maybe Accrington will pull away from the rest. At least we have momentum too!

It pains me but i think Oxford may win the title but cannot see Northampton dropping out of top three, i think Pompey will be fourth. and we will finish 5th which i would be more than happy with. UTG !

No.
I believe we can break top 3, and I'd much rather get auto than go through the playoff lottery again. If we finish outside the top 7 so be it, my expectations have already been exceeded this season.
Very tough league this season.

Depends on what my other choices are. Top 3 is achievable, and the play offs are heartbreaking and can destroy a teams self belief if you don't win. But if the choice is 4th or lower, I'd take 4th

Pompey at Wembley please, don't think we'd beat them over 2 legs but would stand a great chance in a one off match and we'd be looking at an 80k plus crowd which could pay off the wonga loan!!

At the start of the season, I think most of us would thino the same as you. Mid-table security would be very nice thank you. It may all collapse, but given the form that we are in and the fact that we have caught up ground on all of the top 3, I wouldn't take fourth as there is a fighting chance of a top 3 place. Having said that, I would not be disappointed with top 7. I probably would be disappointed if we dropped out of the top 7, but it wouldn't be as bad a fall from grace as the 1999-2000 season.

Of course I'd take 4th, or even 7th but no doubt in my mind we are a top 3 contender right now. I think the chase vs Barnet last season fired everyone up and can see that happening again. Playoff would be great too as long as we make final (I'd love Pompey). Who is our Dover I wonder? Teams in top 10 will fall away, but I don't reckon it will be us

I think we can get automatic promotion this season. We didn't manage it last season because there was only one automatic place, but there are 3 automatics this time we can do it.

I'd take a top 7 finish now but if we want top 3 then Taylor needs to find his goalscoring form again, or Easter needs to start scoring regularly. It'll also be interesting to see what Lawrence adds to the team.
At some point one of the top 3 teams will hit a poor patch and it'll be interesting to see if we're still close enough to take advantage. After the last two matches we now don't need to fear any other Div 2 team.

If we can stay within say about 6 points of third at end of Feb then we still have a chance. It is just about coming through unscathed and trying to keep up as much as possible, then hopefully we can strike.

I'll take being involved at the top end until the end of the season - can't ask for more!

No. a play-off position gives you a 25% chance of going up. 3rd or above is 100% .

Nope........don't need to. We will get stronger and stronger and stronger. We will be promoted automatically, in what position? Who's to say , BUT, we will be plying our trade in league 1, made all the better by the fact that we're going to be playing against the sh**e too. Happy days. UTG!

Ask after Pompey away I reckon.
6pts from the next three (10 from a very tough set of 5) would be fantastic, and given that would mean a win at either our bogey team in Accy or promotion favourites in Pompey, I see no reason why automatic promotion wouldn't be possible.
After that there are two tough games left, away at Carlisle and Northampton. The rest are winnable for sure.
I'd say at this point not making the POs would be a disappointment, which shows how far we've come. We need about 24 pts from 18 games to reach the POs based on yearly averages.

Human nature to never be happy with your lot.
We should be over the moon with 4th at the end of the season considering the last few years. I want top 3 more than anything as its within our reach atm but as Wearethegas says, we lack quality and imo I dont think we have enough quality to get there.
If we're top 7 I'm not sure we can be so lucky again in the play offs. But I'd love nothing more than to be wrong. A play off final with Pompey...yes please.
Also as Topper Gas says, we desperately need Taylor to find his shooting boots again (or get in a player like Tubbs) otherwise I fear we may slide away. Teams like AFC creeping right up..

Yes would take it. Being 7 points ahead of 8th place means it will be 3 games for others to catch us up so we are securely in play offs at the mo. I really like the togetherness of this squad, character wise they are excellent. Quality wise could do with more in midfield but perhaps a fit Liam L is the answer. I think top 3 and Pompey might just pip us into 5th place or lower. Every time they lose they seem to bounce back with a win so I think we will be playing catch-up to them. I may be wrong and hope I am but in August I would have taken this and in May 2014 I would have presumed I was living in cloud cuckoo land to have even thought this was a possibility! All the games coming up will be tough but if we can get a few wins in any group of matches and a draw here and there we will be in the mix in April. UTG!

No. Have to keep plugging away, one of the top 3 are sure to get injuries to key players and lose form long enough for us to close the gap.
