All this talk of finishing in the playoffs being a given. Everyone thought that in 99/00. I won't be saying it's a sure thing until it really is.

Exactly. Both us and Shrewsbury rose from mid-table with late runs to reach the 2007 playoffs don't forget. Anything can happen between now and Easter so we just need to stay in touch with the top 3 and time a late surge when one of them hits a wall, which is inevitable at some point. I'd rather be in the position of gaining momentum by chipping away at them than having to play consistently well to ward off the likes of us like they have to. I don't know why but I fancy Plymouth to drop out of the top 3.

I just hope we are going the same way as last year finishing really strongly. We have already started the second half of the season well so I'm hoping this will now continue. We chipped away at Barents lead and it was only because they themselves kept winning towards the end that we missed out.
We should most defiantly be amining for third right now.
On a personall note, I really don't want to have to pay to fly home for Wembley again! I will of course, but please this year can we make it a little easier and stress free for ourselves?!

It pains me but i think Oxford may win the title but cannot see Northampton dropping out of top three, i think Pompey will be fourth. and we will finish 5th which i would be more than happy with. UTG ! Agree with this. 5th would be very acceptable IMO. At the beginning of season we would have accepted this I would have thought. UTG!

The other day I did a home made score predictor, so purely based on gut feel. I had Northampton edging Plymouth to top spot with Oxford finishing just ahead of us. We finished in fourth well clear of Portsmouth in fifth. Sixth was Accrington and Leyton Orient just beating Wycombe to the last playoff spot.
Off course this is too simplistic and one result could mean a big change, but I feel that it could be a rerun of last year where we were chasing one other team (Oxford) for the one automatic promotion spot and just falling short.
So Orient over two legs and then Portsmouth at Wembley. Easy :-)
Don't put any money in it though!!!

Oxford look good but I think they're a bit too reliant on Roofe. He's their Vardy.

I think Oxford are the most likely to be caught, they might be a good team but they could run out of steam with these cup matches. Plymouth have been consistent through every part of the season and I was convinced they would either do really well or really struggle with their manager. Northampton are a solid outfit.

another way of looking at this s compare us against Barnet this season e are 14 points above them and have a + 19 goal difference on them so as a minimum of a play off spot would be wonderful for us this season, we certainly have the manager , team . spirit , and of course the12th man to do it

We also have to hope that we do not get injuries to players like gaffs taylor easter etc or we could be screwed.

No.
I think we have every chance of a top 3 place as we continue to grow stronger.
Don't fancy the play-offs again as I have a gut feeling we wouldn't be as 'lucky' as the last two occasions.

DC is always lucky in playoffs. And a Pompey v Gas playoff final would smash the L2 attendance record out of the galaxy. But I still think we can get into 3rd place.

Pompey v Gas would be pretty awesome and a healthy pay-day. Hypothetical of course as 3rd place will do nicely!

The reason I ask is because of our form. Our Last promotion out of this league, the final 10 games I felt we could have played anyone, and beat them. This season is starting to feel the same. I'm not saying were going to win every game, but the fealing I'm getting from this team us the same as previously. All the more reason not to take 4th now. If we'd been top and had plummeted, like Leyton Orient, then I'd settle for 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th. But we seem to be getting stronger as the season goes on, albeit with a hiccup here and there. I think we have a real chance of third place. Am I allowed to change my mind?

Taking the season overall so far I'd be happy if we scramble into 7th place.

Still think play offs, shouldn't be too tight unless our recent blip isn't resolved soon, but I do think automatic is too much given the existing points difference. So a yes from me.

Always thought top 3 was a long shot, we just need to get back to winning again soon or top 7 will also be a long shot. If Taylor doesn't score again soon I'll start fearing the worse.
As far as meeting Pompey at Wembley it's just typical we'll make it third time lucky this season, although losing at a packed Wembley would still be a big money spinner.

We have over achieved in my expectations of the season, thought we would challenge next year. I would take any play off place now, happy with Gaffney being signed but not sure on Lennie and Kieran Fallon.
