Harrold was never the same for us after he did his ACL before that he nearly got 20 goals (inc pens!) in one season. Liked him. One of our stand out players in the dreadful Buckle McGhee era, if such a thing is possible. But totally agree he wasn't the same after his long lay off. Remember thinking how much we needed him back when he was injured, got his wonder goal from bench, but then he didn't really live up to expectations. Static and isolated target man which I think Ward liked but was much better when he moved about. Didn't Crawley loan him out? Surprised he's still there

Harrold never and he deserted the sinking ship. Did DC even want him to stay? Matty was on a wage freely negotiated when the club signed him and it was made known to him that he had to go to free up the wages. It amazes me how many people expect a footballer - who has a family to support - to take a wage cut out of sentiment when in fact other employers are prepared to pay them more. Would you do it at work?

Thing I'll remember him for is being injured for ages then came back last game of season away v Torquay in the sunshine and we drew 3-3 and I think he scored the 3rd goal for us after coming on as a sub and the away end erupted with players jumping in the stands etc

For Mansfields goal he was tracking the player who put the cross in for the goal, and I thought he gave up. Mildy seemsd to blame him after.

Harold was a good lad
When Buckle was under fire, Matt Harold was stopped by away fans behind the the Blackthorn bars and asked him they would be OK to go in for a drink.
Matty told them they had nothing to worry about as it was our manager our fans were after!
Top lad!

oh he's bound to score if he plays unfortunately took a bit of stick at their place a few months ago, sad really. I was never a fan but not exactly sure what goes through some people's minds sometimes. Alcohol i guess Pretty sure he came over to the away end after and got a good round of applause from our fans!

I don't understand why anyone should give anything but respect to all footballers - after all they are doing something none of us are capable of. How would you feel if a footballer came to your place of work and insulted you?

Harrold was a half decent footballer when given the chance. Lets face it, he didn't ask for the pass from Parkes and co to be belted from defence twenty foot up in the air or head height hard enough to take his head off did he?
Whether that was the order of the day from john Ward I do not know but on the rare occasions we did play football near the grass Harrold looked and was good.
Another scapegoat by the short sighted in my opinion.

Why did/does he concede so many fouls?

Why did/does he concede so many fouls? Same reason most fouls are given at this level...the refs don't really know what they're doing...

How would you feel if a footballer came to your place of work and insulted you? Respect is earnt not given, would you say you had respect for gow? Injured almost immediately after joining and as soon as the club got him fit he buggerd off. How do you know that no one on here is not capable of playing football? As for a footballer coming into my place of work and insulting me, seems an odd thing to say as I doubt a footballer would pay to come in to my office and watch me carry out my daily duties, you can't really compare the two if your being honest, but hey ho I respect your opinion.

"Respect is earnt not given"
Why not...give respect automatically, until it is UNdeserved?

"Respect is earnt not given" Why not...give respect automatically, until it is UNdeserved? Good point and I agree with what you say, I have a mutual respect for Harold as a human being but I don't need to give him respect just because he is a footballer same as he doesn't need to respect me because I sell tyres!

Or just attempting to head a ball blasted at him from the other end of the pitch, with a big opposition centre half breathing down his neck? Well that's true some of the time, but mostly they're automatically caught between two decisions, either foul on the defender or play on...the free-kick is rarely given to the attacking team (no matter what the defender is doing to said attacker) because referees like a quiet life....

I'd be appalled if he got anything other than a welcome reception. Not expecting a standing ovation but would be disgusted if I heard a single boo.
Regardless of whether he was "good enough" or not, he always gave 100%. I'd welcome him back sooner than I'd ever welcome JJOT back.
What this current squad shows is that attitude can get you a long way in life. Matt Harrold has that and I genuinely wish him all the best (but hope he has a stinker tomorrow).

I thought he was and is a gent. He performed pretty well considering the whole club was imploding during his time here. 27 goals in 76 appearances wasn't a bad haul at that time.
I'm sure if (perish the thought) he scores against us he won't run to the Blackthorn cupping his ears.

Did DC even want him to stay? Read his interview, it didn't matter if DC wanted him to stay or not. Why do I keep hearing about 110%, it's a given in football as we have today with DC's side but he was 110% in staying like Parkes and Mildy was he? He had one good season under Buckle which included penalties. We beat Plymouth who were the form side of the league on the Saturday and Beardsley scored, 3 days later he was dropped for Harrold and we lost 1-0 to Accrington. Some of you lot have short memories, I will never forget the players who stayed to get us out of non league football. Can I REMIND you Harrold was actually given a new one year deal straight after the Mansfield game because his contract triggered it. He never even had to beg us to stay, he had his security but still choose to leave, Mildy didn't. In fairness a goalkeeper and defender leaving a club that's just been relegated out of the football league for the first time in its history ( thus being the worst ever team at the club (?) ) are not likely to have clubs queueing up around the block for them I'd imagine !
