Knocked this up, this is the sort of thing I had in mind. Quite simple, clean and I don't think that pirate looks corny at all. Just my opinion of course.

Maybe the pirate could go altogether? Can't have two nicknames and the gas is used more?!?! Controversial?! Since I'm still holding out for this in the UWE stadium I think we should stick with both....

I think it would look better without the yellow circles and the BRISTOL ROVERS in larger print, forget the FC maybe. I wonder what it would like with the City of Bristol crest on the quarters instead of the skull ? I would like to design one but my IT skills are non existent.

I think there might be a problem in using the City of Bristol crest. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it would restrict your ability to use it commercially. I may be talking complete rubbish of course.

Im sorry but I believe our badge is one of the best in the whole of football.
Just like our kit design, our nicknames - The Gas and The Pirates and our song Irene.
NO NEED TO CHANGE!

Do I feel a poll coming on?
One thing I also forgot to mention about what is great about our current badge, is that the pirate has a sash that reflects the original Black Arabs kit. It's modern, classic, but with strong roots in history.

Also with current design I don't think pirates were that dapper - far too clean cut for my liking?!

I like this . . . I think Pirate is critical for us, very distinctive and marketable in terms of imagery, kids and adults love pirates and there is a great link to Bristol and our spirit. Gas is a great story but just doesn't work visually in my view

I wouldn't want us to lose our Pirate identity. It's a link to Bristol's history and a big draw for kids in particular. A lot of clubs would kill to have a nickname with such a strong identity and marketability. I've always felt we could be doing a lot more with it, the badge included.

I actually think our crest is really smart. I've never seen the pirate as looking "camp". Much rather how it is now than some corny skull & cross bones or Cartoonish pirate like Captain pugwash! I agree, I think most really like our badge. I think it's great. Me too, plus the fact I don't want later surgery on my tattoo !

Sorry I totally disagree with that, even when we were kids we never referred to Rovers as the Pirates.
As for Bristols history theres loads of things that I would associate with Bristol before I thought of Pirates, in fact does anyone think 'Bristol..oh yes pirates' ?
I wonder how many people don't buy club merchandise because its got the Pirate badge on it ? probably not many on here but I bet quite a percentage of all Rovers supporters.
Time to get rid of the old boards Pirate badge and find something better.

What is a Camp Pirate and how does a silhouette of a person with his hand in his pocket standing on a ball look camp?

I agree that Bristol doesn't automatically scream "pirates", but you really think a large numbers of supporters wouldn't buy the merchandise *because* it has the pirate on it? I would find that very hard to believe. It's hardly abhorrent is it, even if it's not exactly your cup of tea! Purely speculation and guesswork of course, but my personal view is that more people would be put off from buying something with a skull & cross bones on it than a silhoulette of a pirate. What would you rather have on the badge that brings the "Bristol" element to it?

The pirates thing was very strong when I was younger, back in the 90's.
Remember vividly having a lovely blue beanie with a Gary penrice looking pirate on the front! I loved that hat...

Was thinking the same Buktaboy! I am not a fan of that camp pirate and never have been! I would quite like to see a nice modern clean badge perhaps incorporating the pirate skull and crossbones with traditional quarters somehow... When I say, skull and cross bones, I don't mean a chavvy looking thing similar to that hilarious angry robin the teds like to use, but something a little more subtle and modern. This it?
