A rover is a wanderer. Someone who roams,is transient. Apt for the clubs history. Maybe a portakabin as a club badge emblem ! Don't Doncaster rovers have some Viking theme to their badge ? And the rover car company used to have a Viking longship on their badge. Sea rovers and Vikings being associated and from there plundering and piracy
Spurs, liverpool, west ham, arsenal have badge emblems that make them recognisable even if you can't read the writing. Thats the best sort of badge. Does it affect the amount of fans you have or how good your team is ? ....no. both Manchester clubs have pretty uninspiring badges and it has not harmed them.
The gas.....or gasheads are terms more associated with the fans and not the club. BRFC are associated with the nickname the pirates. Having a formal and informal nickname should be seen as a good thing.
The current badge is far far better than the lame squares of the 80s which really were a poor attempt at being modern.
We're not the letters BRFC diagonally written in italics on shirts for a time ?

I know that it has been changed a few times since I started going to watch Rovers, I bet there are lots of talented people who follow Rovers who could design something better. I have to say those Crossed Swords always remind me of the hat badge in F Troop..but to be fair some people buy the stuff, they obviously don't like the current pirate either.
But surely the crossed swords is pirate related! Crossed swords goes back to NOB!!!

I have seen it,look at the crowd most of the blokes are wearing suits, ties and trilby hats ( the city mascots wearing a tin hat and bike clips !) even by the 60s when I started going to Rovers that was old hat, surely something better can be found. Which surely suggests that City don't have a mascot image worthy of the name, whilst we do. The quartered shirts, something else unique to Rovers (I don't count Wycombe), date from the thirties, but no one suggests they are 'old hat'. 'No one ' ? I have heard loads say that,in fact I see people wearing tee shirts based on the old blue shirts with white trim..Google Retro Bristol Rovers .

Knocked this up, this is the sort of thing I had in mind. Quite simple, clean and I don't think that pirate looks corny at all. Just my opinion of course. Not a bad effort at all. However, in my opinion, a skull goes with crossed bones, not swords.

Our badge is gay.
That is all.

Unfortunately I don't have to, I'm old enough to remember Rovers playing in those shirts. Which they turned to after relegation in 1962, as the quarters were (for some unfathomable reason) considered unlucky. I actually thought that they were quite smart in their various guises, e.g., different collar styles. I will also admit that I was near ecstatic when we played in all blue as I thought that was soooooooooo top division style

That is THE worst attempt I've seen for a Rovers badge. Are you on a Friday afternoon wind up? I thought it was quite good to be honest! Guess I called that wrong! And jock, I have no idea what you are saying as per usual. It's just a load of letters in a jumbled order.

I quite like the minimalist style of Tottenhams. I think we could do the same just have the Pirate and Bristol Rovers underneath

my best PowerPoint effort... Nice effort mumbles I actually quite like this. I feel it would benefit from a bit more yellow like the current badge, maybe the "Bristol Rovers" in yellow, just to make it stand out a bit more, but very interesting idea doing the pirate ship instead of the pirate!

I'm not knocking the design but how do you know it's a pirate ship ? Edit: a black silhouette of the Concorde airplane perhaps ? That ties pirates, quarters and more modern Bristol icons together

my best PowerPoint effort... I really like the simple background and the fact its just blue and white makes it stronger, but I don't like the ship I think it needs a better image than that plus the ship looks like a wreck. Also the 2 stars, arent stars on football badges supposed to indicate Championships won or Cups ?. A good effort though and if you made that into an enamel badge replacing the ship with the word GAS you would sell a load.
