I'm expecting 1 or 2 before the end of August and 1 in January, wasn't expecting anymore before the first game (as much as I'd have liked them)

Let's just sign any tom dick or Harry Paul buckle style. 3 year contracts all round !! Let's resign Matt Gill and adam Virgo to keep our physio busy as well.

I'd imagine DC is going to assess the squad, after a few games, to see which areas need still strengthening. After all, none of us can tell, at this stage, who's going to make the step up and there's only limited space in the squad.

"...Matt Gill made a forward pass once..." I think you'll find that was a sliced trademark sideways or backward pass, Staffy.

I'm happy to see how the present squad get on but why do we need to just sign anybody, when DC's had months to plan who we do need to sign given we were promoted in early May. Perhaps should have just told the press he was happy with the squad (even if he wasn't) rather than suggest that he intended making 2 or 3 more signings.

Buckle did sign players will resale value though, i'm thinking Carayol and Smith off the top of my head, possibly Woodards as well?
McGhee was a bigger waste of space but I take your point!

That's the standard requirement, Gosling is the current equivalent.

DC has said a few times since the end of last season that he was still looking to bring in 2 or 3 quality new players. With less than a week to go before the seasons kicks off, I must admit that I did personally expect these to be in place by now; or - at the very least - 1 of them! Even 2 of the 3 I'd have thought we'd probably have had in place by now. I'm sure we'll go and sign someone today now I've said this (sod's law), but I must admit that I'm quite surprised we're still waiting on these 2 or 3 "quality additions" with less than a week to go until we kick off the new season. Is anyone else starting to get concerned that we might not see any of these 2 or 3 signings materialise?! I know it's "evolution, not revolution", but I have to admit that I expected to see more spending on the playing side of things than we have to date, even with this in mind. Perhaps DC and MT have ate up the majority of the playing budget between them? Maybe we expected more of the current squad to move on than have? ...who knows. But DCs comments have been re-iterated since the vast majority of the squad re-signed, so I can't really see that that's the issue? I have to say, I'm a little underwhelmed at present. But in fairness that's probably my own fault for having (seemingly) unrealistic expectations. Is anyone else feeling similar? Or am I being a tad harsh? I have already said that I don't think we will sign more. We have had DC say things before but I guess that having his budget cut in the last 2 seasons was the reason he was unable to bring players in and also we did have players even come to the ground but then back out. We are now looking at agents really trying to push for big deals and especially when they believe our new owners will splash the cash. I am not so bothered by it. What I believe will happen is that we will start with the existing players and then maybe will bring in one or two if we are deemed to need them I was upset until I saw a post about burton and how they kept the majority of there team.

He pretty much did say that to the press on 5th July, they just choose to keep running with the 2-3 more.

Agree with all that and feel pretty much the same. I certainly wasn't expecting us to go out and spend millions rebuilding the squad but given our new owners supposed wealth I did think we might see one or two quality additions that might involve a transfer fee. So far we haven't spent a penny on transfer fees since the new owners arrived. Now if you can go out and get quality players for free all the better but so far we've signed a centre back from L2, a winger from Port Vale and a striker on loan, who Peterborough decided isn't up to the job. I doubt any are on massive wages and fans of those clubs were not sorry to see them leave. Hopefully they'll discover their best form with Rovers but I was hoping we might sign at least a couple of players that have excelled in L1 and been definite improvements to our first choice 11. I'd really like to see a GK & CM signed. I'd be concerned if we get to the end of August and only have Puddy & Mildenhall to play between the sticks. Hopefully Clarke is making progress behind the scenes and we'll see the 2 or 3 quality additions before the end of the month.

Pretty sure Buckle signed Lee Brown as well? Could be wrong though!

The current squad have a great camaraderie, partly because D.C. is a good judge of character as well as ability. I wouldn't want new signings to be made purely on past record; they need to fit into the Clarke ethos. Better to wait and see who, if anyone, is required.
To show how little I know, however, I thought both goalies played well yesterday (apart from Puddy's one rush of blood to the head!).

So you are a player playing at Bradford city (for example) you have been a first choice player the last few seasons you are well regarded within the division and may progress up the ladder in the future. Why would you sign for Bristol rovers ? Smaller crowds ,worse stadium, less successful club history , less wages (??) And a club that's been mostly in league two for 16 years. So really BRFC would be looking at trying to coax Shrewsbury or Fleetwood type clubs players ,who whilst being smaller both have modern stadia at least. BRFC are more likely to get better players from league two or the conference in my opinion.
