I suspect if the League Cup and Trophy didn't exist, then TV would devise them anyway. Personally, if the Prem teams moan about too many games, they should abstain from the League Cup and allow only FL teams to enter. It would mean the Trophy ceased to exist leaving three competitions. I agree with that. If the Prem teams want less games, than they should withdrawal from the league Cup and leave it for the Championship, League One and Two and then the Trophy can be scrapped as you say.
The Prem then get the extra European place on the league automatically
Football League Cup for Football League teams. I'd also like one of the European Champions League places to go to the FA Cup winners, something David Sheepshanks (of Ipswich fame) many years ago also thought as it would show how seriously we as a nation took that competition. Can't see it happening though.

What is everyone's fascination with meddling with the cup competitions? Just leave them them a chuffkin lone! We've had some cracking matches/attendances in all three over the years.

I know it's confusing! The efl trophy is a rebranded version of the JPT and the efl cup is a rebranded version of the league cup. It was a lot easier when the FL bothered to go out and sponsorship for these competitions.

Checkatrade (whoever they are?) are the new EFL Trophy sponsors, god knows why the EFL Cup hasn't got sponsors, unless they just like the new EFL tag!

Its a bit late for that as one of them is already being meddled with and forces us to play 3 games instead of the usual 1.
Out of interest what great games have their been in the league/carling cup? Seems routine for us to get knocked out in the first round by a higher level side?

I think the EFL Cup is just an annoyance to Premier League teams, and it's an annoyance to me when they play their kids and crocks against the likes of us. I'd be happy to see them leave the competition as suggested above, leaving the EFL trophy redundant.
Even the FA Cup is a shadow of its former self for the top 10 Prem sides, at least until the quarter finals when full strength sides are played. In my youth winning the Cup was as prestigious as winning the League. No-one thinks that now.

I think that the end of the Cup Winners cup, the knocking down of Wembley and the fact it was devalued by playing play offs, paint pot trophies and even cup semi finals killed the magic.
Should have renovated the old Wembley, and kept it just for FA cup finals and full England internationals, kept it special.

Nonsense, Wembley like the Mem had to be demolished plus what would like be like watching Rovers without our two Wembley appearances to look back on in the last decade. The rise of the Champions League is the main reason for the FA Cups demise.

The rise of the Champions League is the main reason for the FA Cups demise. Wembley has become a nonentity, its not special any more partly because nearly every little club has played there, partly because its a soulless bowl with no history....if you like those kind of grounds that's fine ( I don't).
I don't know what you mean about 'what would like be like watching Rovers without our two Wembley appearances '....I still like watching Rovers but I have never watched them play at Wembley and unless they get in the FA cup final I am not interested...in fact that wouldn't be that great at the new Wembley any way.

I don't agree with much of this.
