I'm still disappointed with Ollie Clarke on the weekend.
To kick the ball away like that in frustration in the 20th minute and to pick up a yellow card was one of the most unprofessional acts I've seen on the pitch for a while watching us. First of all he's no where near good enough for League 1 consistency week in week out as he struggled in Conf and Div2 with consistency. Bar a long range shot his biggest asset is a crunching tackle and that asset was null and void from the 20th minute. He has no excuse, he's experienced now and from the 21st minute he became a passenger in the game, we played with 10 men.
For me he needs to learn his lesson at Yeovil or Eastleigh on loan. First game of the season, he acted like a spoilt brat. Sincs ran his heart out, he had to do more work because Ollie couldn't commit to a tackle which resulted in Stuart coming off knackered and by this point the Scunthorpe team were like a hot knife through butter in our central midfield. Well done Ollie, I hold him partly responsible for our defeat as we had no Mansell or Lawrence to replace the central midfielders and Sincs was exhausted.

Far from convinced he's League One material but let's hope he proves himself. Haven't seen the incident in question but anyone who kicks the ball away and gets booked for something as stupid as this should be fined by the club.

I'm undecided about OC. Whilst it seems he is probably out of his depth, he scored a couple of important goals from the centre of midfield towards the end of last season.
Goals from the middle is definitely something we all agree we need more of.

Not to worry, if he had played for them it was ok to kick the ball away. I am sure you saw that as well ?

I Blame DC Myself DC has told the midfield to be more assertive this season and to close down the opposition Quicker, Olli took that to literal and was pumped up for the game ... and did he get fined by the club for his actions.....

Wasn't there Saturday so will have to take your word as gospel.
If that's the case, he is stupid for doing that and partly to blame for our defeat. I think DC should also have brought him off straight away so he is maybe culpable also to an extent.
As I was trying to get across on a thread about Mildy, there are many contributing factors to a defeat. There were several Saturday from the looks of it, all of which need to be learned from quickly.

I'd hate to think how angry you'd have been if he was drinking Corona

So we move onto the next forum target? As I can't recall OC ever kicking the ball away in the past and picking up a booking can't we let him make one error of judgement, as long as he learns his mistake.
Given LL & LM are both out injured then at the moment OC as to start as the defensive CM if DC wants to play 3 across the middle.

Kicking the ball away is pure stupidity, you know what's going to happen if you do it, and you still choose to do it.
Its a bit like taking your shirt off celebrating a goal, obviously the emotions involved between the two are complete opposites but you know the consequences.
I welcome seeing passion and commitment from our players, but stuff like that is just petulant and lets everyone down.

You don't know what will happen because the Ref chooses to either book you, or if them, ignore it. 50/50 at best what will happen. I am not saying it's the best idea but it really is not a 100% booking as suggested.

Kicking-the-ball-away-gate doesn't have the same ring as Corona-gate though does it? Which is a shame. If only one of the players had been spotted playing a brass instrument after the match or during training we could have had Trombone-a-gate.

Well you have 3 officials out there so the chances are that someone is going to see it. I don't think its at the referees discretion as to whether they book players for it or not, or else that is a massive inconsistency.
The sensible thing is surely to not give them an opportunity to book you in the first place.
I played district football for 12 years and never kicked the ball away during a game, even though I was more likely to get away with it than the pro's.

Newmarket yes the ref didn't give their bloke a yellow card in the second half for kicking the ball away but he was off the pitch and back heeled and Clarke smashed it right in front of the ref on the pitch. Again, the opposition player did it time wasting where as Clarke did it at the refs decision. But let's talk about the ref shall we instead of the crime which we all know if you don't do it you won't get punished?
Re the Corona comments, I've met a lot of you on here, who is RoverDrive and LordJustice again?
A central midfielder not being aloud to tackle after the 20th minute is a bit like asking a striker not to shoot for the rest of the game as well.

I went with an open mind Saturday when I saw Ollie on the team sheet because he has a good shot in his locker and we were not facing premier league opposition. I also went with the hope he could change my opinion of him as a player.................what I saw was a player struggling for 20 minutes who got so frustrated that he kicked the ball away and for the next 70 mins we saw a passenger on the pitch. I'm sure Ollie isn't paid brilliantly, he's loyal and he gives his all for us, a good squad player but in his position we have another 2 like him. Mansell and Lawrence are also squad type players and DC trusted Ollie to give him a chance and he ruined it Saturday. I hope he learns from this but right now we don't need a rookie in the team in Div1 in my opinion.
