Newsnow are reporting that Sheffield United may well seek talks shortly over the future of Matty Taylor.
Seems completely barmy to me as they could have got him for nothing a few weeks ago. But anyway, they don't seem to be any threat to the top of the table, so unless they make hell of an offer, I can't see us letting him go.

I'd bet that he has a release clause in his contract that if matched means we can't do anything about it. As to why now Sheff Utd have seen he can cut it at L1 may cost them money but they've waited to compare & see how he performs at the level they need.
Why would any Div 1 football club pay £500K+(?) for a player a couple of week after they could have got him for free, if MT scores in every league game in August you could understand it but not after one league game (before today's)?. Although if he carries on like he's started then keeping hold of him in January maybe a problem but at least we'll not get a decent transfer fee.

Sheffield United are desperate, they've been stuck in this league for years now and have had another indifferent start. Taylor may not have even been on their radar in the summer but suddenly two goals in two games and he is. I imagine the release fee is around 500k.

Be amazed if it was that low given the going rate for FL players these days. Don't imagine it to be Kemar Roofe prices but £1m+ in today's market given Sheff Utd sold their striker Adams for around £2m, is about the going rate. £1-1.5m you'd hope.
Why Wilder wouldn't just... get him in the summer I have no idea. Was Northampton manager last year, two goals really changed his opinion?!

I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't £1m plus. Can't imagine DC willing to risk this situation arising and losing our best asset for £500k so early in the season and disrupting our squad.
All guesswork though of course. I think Taylor will inevitably leave at some point (my guess is January) but the way he's started this season I'd be gutted if it wasnt for some serious money and to a championship club.
I don't think Matty would leave to stay in the same division would he hardly a step up----although there may be a releas clause am I right in thinking the player must want to leave ?

Yes Taylor would have to agree terms... it just means we wouldn't be able to say no to them talking to him.
I agree with you, although Sheffield United are a big club and surely will get promotion sooner or later, they have been stagnant for a few years now.
Also would add that Oxford didn't look up to much today and I think will struggle. They got a few million in the summer for their star players but they sure haven't replaced them based on what I saw today.
I thought we looked good today can't be bad when you can leave Harrison and Taylor on the bench and play Oxford off the park just a shame we couldn't score 2 or 3 in the first half instead of letting them back in on 42mins Oxford struggled because we were too bloody good for them-----great how Matty took the banter from their fans when warming up then come on and put the fear of God into em and scored the winner UTG!!

We were great today but still gifted them two golden opportunities and had our second goal gifted by terrible defending. Can't imagine us getting away with that had they still have roofe and their striker I can't remember the name of!
Still the end result was deserved and I'm hopeful for the season after that.
