Do I sound like a lunatic when I say if we can keep Matty I can see us getting promoted? I think we will know where we stand after weds night. If we beat Bolton i think we are in for a good season. I thought we needed a new midfielder to play with lines but was pleasantly surprised with o clarke today.

Problem is if we did go up we would struggle to keep both Taylor and DC. Anyway getting way ahead now haha

To be honest I'll be gutted to see him Leave for any amount of money. If he left tomorrow for 2 million I'd still be gutted. We used to sell our top strikers for that kind of money and where did it ever get us? 1 step forward 1 step back that's where. To be successful and to keep improving you've got to keep your best players and add more quality not sell your best player.

This can't be true, unless they've got to new manager since Matty signed his new deal? If they wanted him, they could've tried the other week!

Very unlikely imo. He must have seen enough of him all last season to decide if he wanted him this season. Two games in very unlikely to have had a sudden revelation.

Interestingly, by my calculations, MT has now scored the same amount of goals for the Gas as Ricky Lambert (51) and in less games (albeit at a lower level). He is only 1 behind Devon White, 2 behind Warboys and 6 behind Marcus Stewart all of whom played signficantly more games. If he stays, he could conceivably overtake Cureton this season which would put him 10th on the all time list.

But it's easier to find a Central Defender than a proven striker.

Newsnow are reporting that Sheffield United may well seek talks shortly over the future of Matty Taylor. Seems completely barmy to me as they could have got him for nothing a few weeks ago. But anyway, they don't seem to be any threat to the top of the table, so unless they make hell of an offer, I can't see us letting him go. Thats 8 of the 92...

In my opinion he controls the ball better than any other player, has better vision, has more time on the ball and scores more goals than any other player at our club. I suppose you could argue that a defensive player is better but that would be like arguing that Bobby Moore was better than Pele, different type of player. Anyway let's face it until very recently you swore blind that Matt Taylor is crap and our manager is clueless so that just goes to show there have been some pretty bizarre opinions on this forum over time.

Whilst it's interesting to see the goal numbers compared to others in the clubs history it can only really be done on a divisional level. After all some of the players may never have even considered joining rovers as a conference club. I'm sure someone at some point will compile the divisional lists so we can see who our greatest conference, league two, league one, championship and division three south goalscorers were.

I have to say that I find it difficult to believe that Sheffield. Utd would only start to show an interest now he is contracted for 3 years when 4 weeks ago he was up for grabs for free. When a "Big" club is struggling everyone assumes a striker is what is required; how do these rumour sites know it's not a certain type of midfielder or defender that's required?
Staying with the striker theme, did anyone else notice that Ched Evans scored for Chesterfield on Sat. If he wins his appeal against his rape sentence, I wonder if the great and good of Sheffield will apologise after ostracising him from the club when he was released. The likes of Jessica Ennis-Hill springs to mind here. It seems a man can be accepted back into society after he has paid his court imposed debt on behalf of society, unless it's an offence against a woman. It would appear he is then fair game to be denied an opportunity to earn his living because of an unelected, strident feminist movement.
With regard to Mattee, I was struck yesterday with how similar his style of play was to that used by Marcus when he played for us. The way he shielded the ball then used his body to turn the defender, his flick passes and movement off the ball.
Since he's been with us he has developed and improved beyond all recognition, and that's down, I think, to the coaching he's received.
Imagine if Marcus had been able to work with him from when he was a teenager!

He has with Lucas but so far we've not seen a lot from him, Vardy shows some players are just late developers. What's surprising about MT is that he's looked impressive every time he's stepped up a league.

I think the DC and Marcus factor has a lot to do with Matty Taylor's continued success that's why he stayed with us , he must be comfortable with the set up, the owner the coaching and the general feel about the place long may it continue UTG!!
