that DC has waited all summer and into the start of the season to sign? I ask this question because all along he has maintained that his first choices were very much still in the picture and yet when they come from the words they speak they do not sound like they have been chased for a long time so I wonder if he has missed out on some players which IMO is always the big risk of waiting so long before making signings. The other point would be that a defender and a Goalkeeper neither of whom have played at this standard before is not really what I expected to be waiting this long for. I really thought that we would see something to really inspire us in the Central midfield area/striker/winger area but also that it would be players who could come straight in the team and strengthen the current squad.
I am not convinced these two will do that and feel that we could have got better or at least up to this standard BEFORE the season started. I very much hope that there will be two more creative players coming in before the deadline which would then make this seem more like good business. I have never been completely happy with Puddy as a no 2 and also have never been convinced with Greenslade as a replacement should Brown be injured but then today when I look at these two deals I do wonder if they will both start tomorrow which IMO would be harsh on Mildy and James Clarke.
Have we missed out on DC's intended first choice signings? Will two more still be coming in?What do people think?

We will never know if we missed out on the original targets, only DC will know this.

In a Twitter conversation with a Gashead, James McNamara said yesterday (after interviewing DC, presumably) that DC is after two more and that the keeper has been the one he's wanted all summer.
I imagine the two more will be a winger and CM.

I think Roos is going to replace Mildy sooner rather than later. Roberts is to cover right and left back.
Are we also going to pinch Walsh from under the noses of Yeovil ? he was the little play-maker on loan from Everton, who had such a good game v Gas back end of the season ??

Just think back 5 minutes to the Matty Taylor saga and see who holds all the trump cards nowadays. That will give you the answer regards how hard it is for a manager to get a straight answer from players/agents as to join Rovers. So I agree, these may not be DC first choice players but the best he could get who said YES with little messing! The bite in midfield is still missing so hopefully the player to fill that void will be here soon. Fingers crossed.

I thought you had a better knowledge of how these things work - for a start - the players concerned are the last to know because the clubs and then their agents have to be approached. DC will have had to wait until the clubs concerned had decided whether they wanted them to stay at the club or go out on loan - which will have been decided dependent on their own transfer/loan negotiations. Also prices change nearer to the end of the window. Personally, I will give time to see if they make an improvement to the team - believe in DC!

Quite happy with these 2 signing but I do agree about the CM, I'd like it to be one of those signings that really excites me

we have now signed byron moore, peter hartley, luke james, kelle roos and connor roberts. i think some fans were thinking that with the new owner we would be paying fees for a couple of championship class players but its become obvious that sort of money isnt available for the team. but we kept all our best players from last season and have made these signings so the owner has hardly been stingy with the cash.
will these players improve the team? nobody knows yet as we havnt seen enough of them but we will find out in the next few months so heres hoping.

Steve, I think that both players, though plying their trade in league 2 last year, were impressive enough in that company to suggest they will be good enough for this league. The keeper was loaned out to Rotherham in the championship to be first choice previously, don't forget. That didn't work out, probably as it was too early in his development, but he was excellent for the Dons last year. The right back was far and away Yeovil's best player last season. We definitely needed a keeper but my only quibble is that we seem to be well stocked at right back. Still, it could be that DC simply thinks that Roberts is 'better than what we already have' in this position, and he could well be right. I am still concerned that we don't have cover for Brown. I would hope a back up left back and a central midfielder would still come in.

Strange one is the 6 month loan period which will not reach the end of the season. Anybody hazard a guess as to why this is not a season long loan or is it to do with the Contract he is on at Swansea? Some great points here. Be an interesting couple of days!!

The only thing I can add about the 6 month loan is that maybe if he does well, we can extend it in the January window?

Whilst I think that we do need to strengthen, and was originally hoping that our new signings would be slot in as regular first teamers, I have been so surprised by the progress made by the existing squad, that my original thoughts/requirements have been dampened down a little.
I have been amazed at the way that the team has coped with the new standards of League 1 and the two cup games against Cardiff and Chelsea.
Defensively, we have been ok. Lockyer and Hartley are starting to gel and will get stronger. McCrystal didn't look out of place in his limited time on the pitch either. Browner will never let us down and, in my opinion, James Clarke has been a revelation - solid and composed either in a back 3 or as a right back - and he seems to have found a yard of pace too. The only defender who has disappointed thus far has been Leadbitter and this might be down to the fact that he has been alternated between full back and wingback. Neither he nor Browner look convincing as wingbacks and they tend to get isolated as such.
In Midfield, Lines seems to have stepped up to the plate and is much more consistent than I have seen him in the past. I am still worried when we play Ollie Clarke and The Beard in the same team. Both need more time to adjust and I am not sure that we are at our best when they are playing together. Easter has been an absolute revelation as a creative midfielder - I can see him making that place his.
Bodin has been slightly disappointing but maybe that is due to the fact that he seemed to have been pencilled in as MT's replacement in pre-season. He and Montano will stutter whilst their game time is limited because (over)use of the 3-5-2 formation.
I am more than happy with our forwards and believe that they will all make the transition.
I was disappointed and worried by our pre-season shape - we looked out of sorts and confused. However, since the start of the campaign, that has disappeared. We look a solid football team and even though the results haven't fully gone our way, it has been a joy to watch the squad development since last year. It is almost like watching proper football this year.
Like many on here, I think we still need to strengthen - but not in the same ways as I felt before.

One thing's for sure, Wael's not digging too deep into his pocket for new transfers. Presumably retaining the likes of DC, Taylor and Lockyer was chosen as the best use of funds, but was kind of hoping for some exciting new faces.

Roos has to start miles better than mildenhall. Mildenhall age is not on his side, far to slow now and i cant rember the last time he made a cracking save

Quote from DC: “Connor was a regular in Yeovil’s League Two side last season and can play on the right or left, as a full back or wing back, and will provide competition to Daniel Leadbitter and Lee Brown for either of those places.”
Apparently we're still after two more players - so I think it'll be a CM and winger still to come.

Walsh, NO! Must have a has-been, big-name Championship dude that COSTS lots of money. Must be someone people have heard of! Get with the programme, please.
