The village was tiny but had a mass of new houses built in recent years. Not sure how opposed that was. Site in question is between new houses and motorway so makes no difference to the original residents. I used to live in a house that was right next to a sports/school field. Believe me a few people kicking a ball about is much better than a view of houses and probably quieter. A few blokes kicking a ball or a few hundred residents just being noisy going about their daily business Was the housing estate built on the old hospital site, if so, I doubt any objections would get them to far? As far as Almondsbury being near the UWE isn't it around 5 miles as the crow files?

The issues I would have with the site would be ...
1)noise.....the traffic noise from the motorway will be loud ,will that put a strain on training commands ? Solution ,sacrifice some land for a tree screen to reduce noise.....or move elsewhere.
2) pollution......not from an environmental position but a health one. Is it beneficial to have players exercising and breathing heavy in a place with high levels of fumes in the air ? Solution, sacrifice some land for a tree screen to reduce pollution....or move elsewhere.

I use to live within, literally, a stones throw of the M5 and noise was never that big an issue, it's only if your stood on the hard shoulder it becomes a big issue for training commands. You'd need a dense covering of trees to make a noticeable difference. I doubt pollution is that big an issue or the government would ban housing/offices from being built near motorways when people use them 24/7 not just a couple of hours a morning, likewise I can't see making any difference to air pollution Regardless you'd hope Rovers have already thought of the negatives before seeking pp.

Emissions are obviously an issue otherwise car companies wouldn't have spent millions reducing them and fuel companies wouldn't have bothered trying to clean up their fuels as best as possible. Is it not a case (I'm sure someone will know) that when roads are built they do potential air quality studies and the effects it might have the same as when a new building that will increase traffic is built it goes into the environmental study. Housing is built next to motorways ,ring roads etc because less people will object to building projects there........ Road noise is a distraction......like anything it's something you can get used too,but doesn't mean it's not there.

Just picked up on the proposed new training ground in Hortham Lane. Almondsbury. Thought I would have a look on Google Earth site for the location. If this is the land adjacent to the M5 which I believe, then the birds eye view of the land shows the outline of a full size football pitch. I presume therefore that this is already a sports ground.

Are you sure that isn't the outline of the pig pens/runs as I can't recall ever see anybody playing football in that area when I've driven past on the motorway, although I guess at 70mph I wouldn't be paying that much attention in that direction! The fact pp was granted in the past for something similar must help our case, looking at the site you do wonder why Almondsbury council are objecting as, apart from half a dozen houses overlooking the site, it hardly effects anybody on Hortham Lane.

There is a pig farm at the southern end of the area. Definite pitch markings unless we have some talented pigs coming through the ranks. We need a drone?

A couple of them were wheezing a bit after their short jog, but I put that down to kids smoking behind the bike sheds

I don't understand why the post allow advertising on their site that basically hijacks the page and makes it pretty much unusable....

"State of the art" or just a decent training ground for a club of our size?

"State of the art" or just a decent training ground for a club of our size? If you're expecting any investigative journalism (or even journalism) you're reading the wrong paper or at least reading the right paper in the wrong century.

"The Council have provided no details for the reasons why or how locals would be affected"
of course not as they surely have no valid reasons!!
"one resident has publically objected over the potential for floodlights at the site to distract drivers on the nearby M5 and M4 motorways"
Why how thoughtful of them..
If it was a floodlit 8 til late garden centre they would have no issues im sure.

Must have been a slow day at the Post office yesterday. As this thread proves, the 'news' is over one month old.
Keep up James!
