You're very welcome if you stick to the topic otherwise it's chaff innit So given that 2 of the 3 examples I gave were home matches in the Conference where Rovers fans were turned away because the ground was sold out - I'd say I was directly on topic. Full apology will be accepted. Reading fast, typing faster and drinking cider nit a good mix full apology offered

Our stadium would be embarrsing in the Championship. Why would it be "embarrassing?" It would be poor, not fit for the football level we would be at, not big enough, costly to maintain and probably the poorest ground in the division. To be embarrassing would mean that we would be ashamed to play there in the championship. Crap! I would be very happy to play at the Mem in the championship next season if it happens and would not be a bit embarrassed if the big boys who come from the premiership had to slum it at the Mem. That's what we fans do isn't it? We go to all sorts of grounds and enjoy them for what they are. I enjoyed all the grounds I went to in the Conference and when I chatted to the fans it was great, no one needs to be embarrassed by where we play. Wael and co are doing their best to sort it out and after waiting for a new ground for over 50 years I can wait another couple of years and won't be embarrassed about it! I want a new ground as much as anyone else but blimey it's one of the things us fans can do little about, in Wael and co I trust. UTG!

I would be absolutely proud to see us in the Mem coming out for our first game in the Premier League in 21 months time. But it won't happen, as we will be at the UWE by then, and that will be even better.
I just don't see what would be embarrassing about it. (As long as the UWE is almost ready by then).

Just to throw this into the mix but Burton Albion ground appears to have just a 7,000 capacity and with only 2,000 seats, so it does seem possible we could survive at least a season at the Mem.

That isbecause, as I have pointed out a few times, that the Burton chairman rightly said the TV money in the championship is £6m per annum as opposed to £1m in league one. Its not rocket science.

Well the one thing you don't do is not try and get promotion because of a crap ground. You grasp every opportunity you can and as above Burton are doing ok. Always hard to compare but the owners we have now give us our best chance ever to grow and develop. UTG!

Couldn't agree more. So many people bemoan plastic "bowl-like" grounds in one breath and call our stadium, which is the opposite, embarrassing in the next. Well, old fashioned stadiums with terracing get incredibly rare the further you go up the football ladder. I grew up watching my football at Twerton. It was great! So close to the action, great atmosphere etc. The Mem is similar and will be missed when we move. I know we need to move for future sustainability but am I embarrassed about our lack of facilities or small capacity? Not a bit of it.

Bournemouth are in the Premiership with a ground capacity of under 12,000 with a temporary stand at one end. That didn't seem to hold them back from the numerous promotions they've had since 2009-10.

Yeah, the more money that gets put in from media and related places, the less proportion of revenue that comes from attendance, the easier it is to sustain a team on low gates. Theoretically a well run club might not need any attendance at all to get into the prem and stay there.

Brentford's ground only holds around 12k and ain't much less cringeworthy than the Mem, and Rotherham may have a new ground but's only around 12k capacity too. Bournemouth only has 15k. The Mem would look pretty neat if it wasn't for the canvas roofs and that awful stand that looks like a downmarket cricket pavilion. But it's home to us so let's make the best of it.

Clearly you have not been there at a time other than when a match is on.
Avon and Somerset Police along with many other organisations hire rooms/boxes for meetings, interviews etc. At times, the car park appears to be half full.
i went to the shop the other day to pick up some stuff and was amazed the car park was packed with cars of people going to a conference at the stadium My sister-in-law runs an agency, quite often they hire out the Dri-Build stand room. She has nothing but praise for Rovers when dealing with them.

Peterborough managed OK too. They had roughly the same as us, 3,000 seats, 11,000 terrace spaces. Now they've redeveloped one stand, think if they go up again they will do the other one.

Bournemouth are in the Premiership with a ground capacity of under 12,000 with a temporary stand at one end. That didn't seem to hold them back from the numerous promotions they've had since 2009-10. The temp stand is permanent now. Capacity of around 12000 no more. Great atmosphere. What the owners have done there is improve infrastructure, training facilities and match day experience. 3 sides of the ground are exactly the same as when we last went there Easter 2011. Only change is 4th side. They limited season tickets to 7000 so there are lots of pay on day tickets with the increased allocation they have to give away clubs in PL. I have a season ticket only because their booking arrangements and telephone systems are ten times worse than Rovers despite PL! It's far worse than trying to get a ticket at Rovers and always has been even when in 3/4 divisions! Rovers are far more efficient and TBH I couldn't be bothered to go through that hassle for every home game so I have a ST. And the PA system at Rovers is better! Incredible but it is. Bournemouth are in PL and is still can't understand the PA even in main stand! What has made Bournemouth so attractive is their manager, he makes players better footballers, modern training methods and excellent training facilities that will attract players like Jack W and my main point is that there are a lot of parallels between the two. Having seen both clubs over the last 30 years since being down here there is nothing to stop us doing something similar given the right conditions. Both clubs have/are building incrementally and not chucking too much money at it. Obviously Bournemouth have splashed the cash once in the PLb but you can afford to do that with increased income streams. UTG!
