Well, nobody told Lee Brown! Lee brown is a left back and a very good overlapping left back and one of the best left backs in my 35 years supporting the club.. Ask him to play as a wing back with no winger in front of him and continue to do it and you might as well move him on. That, right there...........one of the best posts on this thread by a country mile !

He is a class act. From Christmas onwards last year league 2 defences couldn't deal with his surging runs. The balance of the team was able to let him do it, just hasn't worked like that this season. He's having to sit deeper, not make those runs and unfortunately no one else is and with no Bodin or Montano to create, better teams don't find it as hard to stop us. UTG! Exactly what I mean. Maybe bodin and montano aren't up to it at this level but if I was manager I'd play lines with Clarke or Sinclair and those two for the next few games with Taylor and Gafney up front. Bodin is a quality player but getting 20 minutes every three games isn't going to get him up to speed I honestly think we could pick up enough points from those games to be in the top six and maybe even keep Taylor and push on again. I really fear that we're going to see another ugly narrow parformsnce with a draw at the most this Saturday though. Charlton ran through us with that set-up.

No charlton had two shots in the first half and our keeper didn't save either. We had two very good shots and their keeper made two very good saves. Massive changes at half time and we went in to free fall.

Yeah he's not perfect but he has been one of our most consistent good performers over the last 3 years playing as full back and a winger or wing back he isn't.

Just like GGMI you highlight why he gets flack but can't see it I can see why he gets flack for notgetting stuck in enough but I can't understand him getting flack for "not being good" when he clearly is good enough for league one. forget the ``getting stuck in` as we all know lines game is not about that. And I certainly didn't say he want good enough but what I did point out was, if you both care to look at what you both wrote, YOUR reasons why he gets flack! Footballers have off days, some more than others we all know that but I thought the points you both highlighted were justified. Not always putting the effort in and needing a kick up the arse was about right. And I agree with you!

But the person I was originally debating with, said "he isn't good enough".

I don't understand the point you are making?? I can't see what? One thing I always notice about lines when he's got the ball is that he always has his head up and he's looking left , right and centre waiting for the right pass even when he's running at full pelt , he only goes on those runs because he's trying to carve out an angle for his trademark pass. When our movement is good and we are playing well Chris lines plays well because if he's got players around him moving in to space looking for the ball and in a hungry and confident mood then he's got options. When we are static up front he can't do anything except go sideways and it's frustrating, sometimes he'll still Play it in to feet but then if we've got no wingers then where do we go from there ? Back in to midfield that's where. Chris lines thrives in a 4-4-2 because he wants the pitch to be as wide as possible so he can stretch the opposition with his long range passes. Charlie colket can be as good as Chris lines probably better but when we've played him more often than not it's been in an awful formation with no width and although he's done alright when I've watched him play most of the time when he's got the ball he takes that extra second that top quality players have got then brings it down looks a bit watered off and forces the ball because the options aren't there. People slagging off Chris lines after Sunday's performance don't understand football or formations or Chris lines as a player. The blokes a class act at this level but not in a 3-5-2 with Wrong backs and floggng him in that formation along with Lee brown and leadbitteer is doing them and us a masssive disservice. Well that is the case for the defence of Chris Lines when he has played badly, so I look forward to your case for the other ten players out there. what I will say is that I have watched Lines have both good and bad games in both formations with the same players on the pitch so educate us non footballing experts on that one.

Brown and Leads have probably been decent in some games as wing backs too but it doesn't mean it's their best position.

DC talks the talk but has yet to walk the walk. He says players that aren't good enough will be on their way, and yet he gives everyone another contract if we go up. That is a great motivator in Non League but Division One? So far since we have been in the league Blisset and Parkes have gone along with a few youths, but ask yourself this; why are Mansell; Mc Crystal; Lawrence: Puddy: Mildenhall and Gosling here? They are not going to play for us again, and if they were then yesterday would have been a good chance for them. The truth is we have too many players who are not good enough for this level on a contract, we also in my opinion have players in the team who aren't good enough. So lots of money going on players we don't need / want. Then the squad is too big, and I think this is one of the reasons that he changes the bloody team all the time. You should always play the same defence, but that is a problem for us because they are not very good either. I don't know how many players we will end the season with but we will be miles over our budget that's for sure and that was not the message I got from the Chairman at the beginning of the season. And Finally: do we trust DC in signing players? Well if Moore and Hartley are anything to go by then no I don't. Hey, add Easter and 2 of the youngsters and you should be a bit chirpier now eh? Hartley has been decent I'd say and the goals are a bonus.
