www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/hiram-boateng-returns-to-palace-3490384.aspxMidfielder Hiram Boateng has today returned to his parent club, Crystal Palace. His loan was due to expire on 2nd January but he has been allowed to return to Selhurst Park a week earlier than planned. Boateng joined Rovers on transfer deadline day, 8th September, and made his debut for the club two days later in the 2-2 draw against Rochdale at The Memorial Stadium. The midfielder, who had previously played for Crawley Town and Plymouth Argyle on loan, and appeared for Argyle in last season’s League One play-off final against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley, went on to appear in 12 games, in all competitions, for the club. “Hiram worked very hard for the team whilst he was here,” said manager Darrell Clarke, “and he returns to Palace with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”

Big shame that it didn't work out. Wish him well.

Thought he looked decent, maybe DC has someone better lined up. Indeed. I wonder how much we were contributing towards his wages? I reckon DC has lined up a midfield general on a permanent signing that won't be cheap and is freeing up the wages asap.

He arrived here with rave reviews from the Plymouth fans. Most of the Rovers fans were happy with his signing, but for some strange reason he didn't really get a run of games with us. Hopefully DC has someone lined up and ready to go on Monday.

It's not surprising that he didn't get a run of games though. Even without him we still have 6 midfielders (SS, CL, OC, CC, LM, LL). I know Lawrence and Mansell haven't played much but it looks like DC is now willing to give them a chance. If we are going to play 4-4-2 with wingers every week then there's only space for 2 central midfielders with 2 or possibly 3 at a push as backup.
I think we would still need to release another one or two before getting someone else in. Otherwise it's going to be back to changing the side every week to try and keep everyone happy. UTG!

Another loan signing that was a waste of time. Clueless

consistency is the key and he didn't demonstrate that ,possibly didn't demonstrate it in training either

Why should he have to keep changing the side to keep everyone happy?
He should pick his best team in their best formation and make fringe players force themselves into the reckoning.
TBH I don't even think Clarke knows his best XI or formation.

If players aren't kept happy then they kick up a fuss and cause unrest in the whole squad (not everyone but some people). Keeping more than 6 players happy when competing for 2 positions is impossible without rotation. I'm not saying he should change the team every week. I'm saying that some midfielders need to go because we have too many, especially if we are looking at bringing more in.

I know what you are saying but if players aren't getting into the team you would assume as its because others are better, or at least performing better. The only way to deal with that is to prove to the manager you should be starting games.
I agree 6 players into 2 positions is a bit ridiculous, therefore i'm not sure why DC bothered getting more midfielders in to begin with.
Still, I would prefer Boateng or Colkett over someone like Liam Lawrence. Hell id even prefer Andy Bond over Lawrence!

I'm not sure how I feel about his time with us if I'm honest. Clearly a cut above in terms of ability at times but then I'm not sure he actually benefited the team that much. Then again that could've been down to how DC played him/not giving him a run of games.
Hopefully there's someone else lined up for January

Cant tackle, doesnt track back, no pace , passes the ball well with his left foot dont know about his right foot as Ive never seen him use it A bit like Colkett in he can look good when the team are playing well but anonymous otherwise , I hope he does well in the future but no great loss.

Problem for Boateng was that he was a less experienced Lines so only really fitted into the team when Lines was off form or suspended, although I guess if DC hadn't brought in cover for Lines posters would have being saying why hadn't DC brought in cover! Boateng also didn't help himself by being inconsistent, he was fantastic against Bury but poor in the following game at Shrewsbury.
