So much of this thread is hilarious especially the mammoth effort by Gregory Stephens. Were you there yesterday Greg? Let me tell that in the two pubs I went in, the consensus was we've come to a reserve game, and DC has lost the plot. You may not like to hear that, but it's what was being spoken of by the people that bothered to go and support the team. The selection was a bloody nonsense, and it now seems that science has taken over team selection, so perhaps we don't need a manager. I assume it is therefore Dubey who now picks the team, and he sure as hell was the guy behind bringing in our new keeper. Perhaps we therefore have a new manager but he just hasn't been confirmed yet. As for Charlton, someone said they are a good side. Wake up and smell the coffee. Discount our two gimme games to them and see where they are. Not one of the last four teams we have played away to are any good, but we lost to all four of them, two will probably go down and the other two will be mid table. But we have given all of them major boosts because DC still doesn't know who his best team are. Two of the players left out yesterday smiled and raised eyebrows when we asked them why they were out. One then said 'well, that's how it is'. When Easter, who at least tried was substituted, he had a drink and then smashed his drink bottle into the dugout, so he wasn't best pleased. If the reason for all this is because he is trying to keep a happy squad, then that is crap. His job is to try and win each game, and he will not succeed at this level unless he plays his best team, and he sure as hell won't get this level of away support again if we have to wonder if we will be watching a reserve game. Will Dubey, is a recruitment player anaylst. So not sure why you are surprised that he has foind this keeper to come on trial here? What do you think he is doing at the ckub otherwise? I don't see how you have come to the conclusion that he is the manager on that basis? Especially as DC has made a number of changes like this with games in a short period. LONG before Will Dubey was here! Jermaine Easter in upset at coming off when his team are losing shocker! It sounds like you and your mates down the pub clearly know a lot more about managing a football club than DC ever will!

Makes me laugh that a lot of people have been saying for ages that they want Mansell to be given a chance for his defensive ability and organisational skills. Now that it has been tried and failed, people are saying how ridiculous a selection it was. I'm glad I don't manage this team. Mansell yes but I've not heard anyone asking for him to be in a midfield with Lawrence, a setup to fail

Interesting report. I am more convinced than ever that DC is aiming for mid-table and has no ambition for promotion. He is safe in the job - and probably scared and not confident in his own ability to challenge in the championship. He has earned himself a safe job and is no doubt earning enough to be happy. However he is surely putting two fingers up to the supporters by selecting a team which he must have known were just not good enough. If he knew they wouldn't be good enough then why would he select it? GGMI are you honestly saying the that the 6 players in front the defenders were strongest 6 we could put out?

Where the hell have you got that from? What I am saying is do you honestly think DC put out a team to lose? He put out what he thought the best team was that he could put out given the circumstances. Unless you are suggesting he should have played the same 11 as 48 hours previous?! It was the defence that mainly cost us anyway.

Mansell alongside players with creativity and pace is very different to Mansell alongside Lawrence and Sinclair. Why not give Taylor a rest after going 2-0 against Wimbledon rather than dropping out top goal scorer? How about playing Colkett and giving Charlton at least something to worry about? Why bring on Harrison when the midfield needed changing? We should of been going straight at Charlton given their fans frustrations lately. Bodin after running a marathon will still run faster than LL. I'm one of DC's biggest fans and am quick to have a pop at anyone criticising him unfairly, but yesterday's team selection was his worst piece of management since he arrived for me, and if I had seen the team sheet a few hours earlier I would of saved my time and money.

I was not there yesterday, as I stated in my post if you had done me the courtesy of reading carefully. Perhaps next time I would suggest taking notes as there is much wisdom there for you to learn! On the topic of wisdom, I doubt I would have found much in the boozer you were in. To turn on a manager after two promotions and top half league one speaks of ignorance and a lack of loyalty far beyond what I would consider acceptable drinking company. The poison which helped bring this club to a self loathing mess of unhappy negativity is still strong and if we lose Clarke to you lot, then all I can say is you get what you deserve in life. We've had nothing like this in 20 years and out come the hatchets after 6 points for 9. It was a bad day at the office, I have seen them with my own eyes but running and jumping off the cliff of premature conclusions whilst having a nuclear knee jerk because of one poor performance isn't going to help and is a gross over reaction. It's almost like you are itching for us to fail. I will start asking questions if we get anywhere near the bottom 4. Before that day, hounding our most successful manager because your ego feels you have better answers than a paid, successful professional is misguided. Superb post.

It is not a case of turning on the manager - but many of the 1600 who made the journey to support the team were dismayed when they saw the team selection - the manager surely has to accept he made a mistake? The midfield selection was wrong - two players who are near the end of their careers and are not the quickest and all three who have had no game time in recent WEEKS! And more than half the team who had just won two matches DROPPED. Even an amateur manager (as we who post are) can claim to have picked a team that would have performed better than that witnessed at Charlton.

As others have said before nobody really knows the true reason why the players were rotated. Chances are they were rested rather than DROPPED as you put it. And you amateur managers may have picked a better team on the day, but would it have been best for our season as a whole. DC has led us to two promotions when we have not been in great positions midway through the season. Maybe wait until the end of the season before making a judgement on how DC has performed. Anything in the top half I think would be an over-achievement this year. UTG

DC may look at each game as a "project", but he also has an overview of the whole season. He knows we probably don't have a title winning side, given where we have come from in such a short space of time, but it's a results based business and he therefore sets out to maximise the return from the personnel at his disposal in an attempt to reach the highest possible position. It's 3 points for a win and only 1 point for a draw so he takes a calculated gamble that the team will accumulate more points by attempting to win each game, and playing more attractive football, rather than trying not to lose. Most of the time it pays off, but inevitably sometimes it doesn't, however it's a much better points tally to win two and lose one rather than draw three in a row with a more defensive setup. To keep his best assets going until the end of the season he employs the squad rotation approach which will inevitably throw up differing performances, but so far the ends have justified the means even if it creates moments of extreme disappointment.. To use a motoring analogy, this season it's like we have turned up at a formula one race with a formula 3 car which is more than able to get around the track but it's never going to be the fastest car. We have an excellent pit crew who, mid race, are advising that we change the tyres to ensure that we complete the race, even possibly scrape a place on the podium, however the excitable crowd are urging us to keep going on the original tyres so as not to lose a few seconds with a pit stop. Thankfully the team doesn't listen to the crowd, as the risk of a blowout and potentially wrecking the car is too high (especially if we want to sell it on eBay later). Although we don't win the race the plucky attitude, professionalism and tech savvy approach doesn't go unnoticed and the sponsors are sufficiently reassured to invest in a formula one car for the following season.

Our 'first team' lost 5-1 at home to Charlton. Our 'reserve team' lost 4-1 away.........Seems like the 'reserves' did better than the 'first' team

So 1571 fans go to watch dads army get walloped thanks DC we been cheated out of hard earned money Many people have said that we actually performed well first half and it is easy to see that the goals came from defensive mistakes. Don't know how that's the fault of the rotation in midfield and up front (or DC's fault for that matter). If it hadn't been for those mistakes at the back, we probably would've drawn 1-1. Would there have been the same uproar about the team selection then? UTG!

But they didn't did they? No, due to defensive mistakes, made by the same back four that played the previous game. Therefore, not a fault of DC's rotation!
