I believe part of the UWE is housed in what used to be a lunatic asylum. Glenside is the health and social campus and is on the site of the old Glenside Hospital in Fishponds. Its still the site of a Medium Secure psychiatric unit called Fromeside.

Is this the biggest single investment in Bristol rovers history so far ?
Apart from the Mem, probably. Didn't the Members only cost £10k? Now that was a piece of business.

Strange how people forget that if rovers hadn't bought into the mem Bristol rugby would have sold the ground to an American investment company who would have sold it for housing or Bristol would have gone bust most likely and not exist today. All the mem deals were done in the best interests of both clubs ,in the end the new owners thought it better they moved to ashton gate and become part of Bristol sport.
I think the cost of the training facility once complete will be more than the cost of the mem plus the north terrace roof and tent stands.

Landsdown is a Lady Garden. I hope this is just the start of his nose being continually rubbed in sh**. As Hugo says, he is a smug, rosy faced twat. Yes Lansdown is a lady garden. I believe he thought that the Gas would die when we fell out of the league and heavily in debt. He invested heavily in the City team and got promoted to the championship during our conference season trying to push home his advantage in the hope that the 82ersame would gain a monopoly over football n Bristol. He didn't give our club and fan base any credit though and thought we would just roll over and have our bellies tickled. Well we didn't roll over, we came together and bounced straight back up. Not only did we bounce back we became an attractive proposition for investment and then came along the breath of fresh air that are the Al Qadi's. Lansdown has been caught with his pantsdown. He tried to kill the gas and has f**ked it up

I guess the commercial side would be aware that if we had gone for good, they'd make a case to be the only league team, blah, blah to try to get kids follow the teds. I don't believe there is some vendetta down trashton to get rid of us, apart from their nut case fans who'd burn down the mem (like eastville and twerton), if it weren't concrete and steel. I really don't think that they spend as much as time as some of us (not me) would like to think discussing us; some of us may get that vibe because that's what lots of their fans do (and too many of ours about them). My gut instinct about ted board meetings is a repeated discussion about how they keep employing dud managers, who can only do anything if shitloads of cash is thrown at the playing staff.

You may be right. I still aint got over the snake business yet so maybe I am getting a bit carried away. I would be interested to know when he gave the 'nobody will be talking about rovers' quote though as might be quite telling.

He can't keep his nose out of what's going on that's his problem, which is OK when you know a bit about football but he clearly knows buggr all. He thinks because he was successful in one field it automatically means he will be in another. His ego has taken over, hopefully he'll keep wasting his money til he goes bankrupt the smug rosy faced twat.

Was it in DC's extended interview that he said that we'll never have a top 6 league one budget...until we have the infrastructure in place?
The importance of this purchase is massive.

Glad there is a universal understanding of just how massive this is! This should give us the base to build from and move forwards as a club.
Be interesting to see if we can keep to the timescales with regards to building it.

Great news. Better than any signing and a real show of intent from the owners. Confident that the uwe will come off as what's the point in a level 2 academy producing players to play at our shed! I agree the next step has to be the stadium if we're going to keep progressing but as someone said on here the other day footballers spend 90% of their time training and only 10% playing so they want good facilities and this will help us attract better players and produce better players. Also if your injured do you want Physio in a metal container on the side of a field or in a top gym with top equipment. All these things matter massively to footballers. I also like our shed and of all the grounds I've been to in league 1 and league 2 we create a better atmosphere at the Mem other than anyone other than probably Pompey and that's a bit of a shed too only 8000 bigger. Edit .. I've just put the Wigan v sheff weds game on and the stadium is half empty and sounds like it's a friendly. I do want the UWE but I'm going to saviour every moment of the thatchers end until the day I leave for the last time UTG. It matters a bit but only a little bit. What matters more is money if club A says we got crap facilities and train in a park but we'll offer you £400k a year and club B says we got state of the art training facilities and we'll offer you £250k a year we all know which club the player will sign for and it's not club B

A stadium is useless until it's complete and complicated, inconvenient and expensive to improve when it's done. Something like this can be improved bit by bit, and can be used fairly early on.

Thats why the offices will be port a cabin to start with then when the indoor pitch is built the proper offices will be Incorporated into that. BUT How about the bar for the "players" to use....will that be open to the public
