Ok, I`ll admit to a conflict of interest here. Bluebutterfly is a mate of mine. I`ve been to quite a few away games with him, and I can tell you this; he is Gas through and through. A season ticket holder, Hugo, so you`ll have to revise at least one of your beliefs. So, to call him a City fan is utterly laughable. I`ve seen him when City lose, and he is one happy dude. Personally, I think his thread here is a valid one. As for jokes about his mother, she died of cancer some years ago. Perhaps we could have jokes about that too. I'm not doubting he's a Rovers fan, but the tone of some of his posts seem confrontational almost to the point of being designed to wind people up on here deliberately. That's what I'm struggling with. William As nobody was aware of who he was or about his mother then that last comment is a bit uncalled for, many of us have lost loved ones to that evil disease abnd/or raised signifcent sums of money into research. I stand by my confrontational comment and will meet for a drink to establish identity, much like I did with my mate Keith (Martin) some years ago. UTG

Do you need to drive to the Mem? Park at the Mem? Have you tried to buy seats at the Mem recently? Or bought food there? Or tried to get a drink in the bar? Have you actually been there yourself? because if you need to ask why people won't go there, I can't believe you've been. Maybe you could bring someone new along to see what their unblinkered view of the place is? I've done all these things and frankly I f**king hate the Mem and am ashamed to bring people along. It's a shithole and has to be one of the worse grounds in the football league. All this stuff is very obvious to pretty much all of us, yet you don't seem to see any of it. Thus, people draw the conclusion you are winding us all up. It's a difficult view to defend. Ok, I`ll admit to a conflict of interest here. Bluebutterfly is a mate of mine. How many LG1 or champ teams fill their grounds then? I'd say most are 75% full and we surpass that figure most of the time as it stands.

Oh for goodness sake. You get even money on a mums dead comment straight after a mum joke.
If you are old enough or unfortunate to have lost a loved one, it doesn't mean the joke is offensive.

I love the Gas, and hate City as much as anyone. But because I don`t come on here, singing, " Here we go here we go here we go.." then I must be a shithead, or trying to wind people up. Gregory, I`ve kept tropical fish with greater reasoning power than you.

2 promotions almost invincible at home but why such small crowds relative to the size of bristol and compared to bristol city? I'll make an attempt to treat the original question seriously. Rovers average home attendance this season is set to be the highest since the '75-76 season (10,022). Over those 40 years, whilst at Eastville, Twerton and the Mem, Rovers average attendance has been 6,196, despite being in what is now the Championship for 8 of those seasons. You have to go back to the halcyon days on the 1950s for any season average attendances over 20,000 www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/brir.htmHaving said that, Rovers have a higher proportion of attendance to ground capacity than most in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tier. The record books show that City have historically attracted more (mugs), as you would expect from their slightly higher historical league performance. But compared to towns like Burnley, the combined attendances for both Rovers and City are pretty poor considering the size of the Bristol conurbation. We'd both need stadiums the size of Wembley to house the same proportion. I'm quite fond of the Mem and the matchday experience there and I am really not looking forward to the prospect of being denied the right to stand at games. However, if we have ambition to grow as a club we also need the size and quality of stadium that matches that ambition.

Having a bigger stadium isn't totally about filling it every week. Even most premiership clubs have games with some empty seats. Its about having the spare capacity to allow for bigger crowds on the more popular games. When you think the ashton gate of the 90's and 2000's had capacity of 19,000 + I believe and yet they never averaged above 12,900. That would have included possible sell outs against Rovers and top table clashes and localish games against the likes of Cardiff,Swindon,Plymouth,Reading and Oxford.
Part of the Mems problem is not having enough good quality seating and facilities. What it does have is good choice. Standing on sides and behind goal,covered or uncovered standing family standing ,various levels of seating in different locations around the pitch.
To take the mem forward ,one should look at the different areas and see which ones sell best and then increase them{were it possible}
If the mem had a 18,000 capacity with the more popular areas being those increased in size then the averages for the last few seasons would have been higher no doubt as the high profile games would have drawn the bigger gates. Dagenham match with the right capacity would have seen 18,000 no doubt. Rovers have good averages despite having a small capacity and limited quality seating.

What "joke" is that then, Mr79? A poster starts a thread, asking why our gates are small compared to the size of our city ( sixth largest in England ), and compared to our rivals south of the river, who ( apart from one good season ) have had nothing but struggle and setbacks recently. It seems a perfectly valid question to me. And yet you have the likes of Gregory whose immediate response is, I was part of a crowd who shagged your mother. To me , that`s not a joke; it just demonstrates the paucity of his arguement. Surely to *k, people can come on here with concerns or awkward questions, without being labeled a shithead or a wum, or having comments made about their mothers sexual fidelity.

Just as a heads up to everyone, I'm going to go though this thread later and delete all posts that don't directly address the OP.
While I believe it was poorly put, I think it was probably well intentioned.
Please send all your moans to to directly to pm. I'm fed up with all the name calling and crap that is sadly becoming a feature on this forum in recent weeks.
Cheers.

Is this still on? Blimey. This thread is like that show Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps: it was sh1te but they KEPT making it.
Do you remember the theme tune? No. Exactly. But I do remember that it referred to crisps as "flakeys". What? When did anyone ever call crisps flakeys?
