Plenty of time for that, not many decent jobs available....yet. He's under contract he can't just walk off.
I didn't say he could, but if he wanted to go that wouldn't stop him. We would get compensation though obviously, happens all the time.

Of course it would stop him. Assuming no clauses are present in his contract, he would only be able to move on during his contact if we sanctioned it and agreed satisfactory compensation with another club. We've seen instances in the past where managers are placed on gardening leave for this very reason.

I don't believe Wael would stand in his way if a big club came in for him, he's done too much for us. The only stumbling block could be agreeing compensation but even then it would only be a matter of time before he left imo.
He was interviewed by Leeds so obviously he isn't flat refusing offers.

Suspect you're right but simply making the point that he couldn't just walk to another club without our blessing.

Assuming the UWE etc gets the go ahead this summer I can't see why DC would leave, even jumping ship to a Championship club would be a big decision for him, as if it all went wrong he'd have to rebuild his reputation which remains in tact whilst he's making progress with us.

Just to make it clear guys I was addressing the original poster YateGas who said something like "if he doesn't get the budget he wants he will be off" If another club comes in for him obviously a totally different situation - as it stands YateGas he's under contract and going nowhere unless the club agree.

Or, if he isn't backed financially by Wael this could also affect his reputation if he has a bad 17-18 season.
There will always be risks either way but I think if the right club with the right setup came in, he will be off.
As much as we all love Bristol Rovers we are a small club.

We are not small, I would say we are a medium if we are comparing it to shirt sizes... but the important factor is that being in Bristol, a big, ever growing, commercially successful city, we have the potential to grow into a much bigger club. Just look at Brighton, Swansea, Hull etc...

You only have to look at our ground to see we are a small club, also our best player jumping ship to join our rivals.
We have had potential throughout my 40 years supporting Rovers, never realised though.
We could fill the ground every week and that will not change until we get the new stadium.
Sorry to be negative after a great few years but its all irrelevant until the above happens.

Just shows the gap developing between the Championship and League 1 in terms of the wages clubs can pay. I'd guess that Etheridge is on pretty good money already compared to most of us on the forum and if he can increase wage 6 or 7 times by moving on then it just shows how difficult it is to build a promotion challenging team. So I guess that's Etheridge and Oztumer are off our shopping list. This is why Wael is right about the importance of developing our own and putting money into the academy and development squad. The option of increasing playing budget by a couple of million is just not sustainable for a club of our size. I think this is why we hear the mantra 'evolution not revolution'. I fully expect to see 3 or 4 under 23 signings this year to boost the development squad with the hope that a couple come through in the next year or two.

Its sad to say this but there is 9 other managers who are better than him in this league why would they choose him ?

The 25-year-old has been revelation for the Saddlers since joining on a free transfer from Peterborough last summer and ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer on 15 goals.
Think we got the wrong player from Peterborough!!!

2 promotions out of 3 seasons will make clubs take notice whatever level it is at, especially when he hasn't spent much to do it.

This is very true but also we need a good scouting network in place to find potential gems.
I said on here pre season that Walsall had signed a very good player in Oztumer, one we should have signed, because ive watched Dulwich Hamlet quite a lot. What are the chances anyone at Bristol Rovers has ever seen a Dulwich Hamlet game?
